A Farce for Two
I simply cut down the naked beasts that came at me.
At a glance, it's clear that they are townsfolk who have been subjected to some kind of spell by the Demon King's army and gone mad.
But even knowing that, I still have to kill them.
Because... behind me... depends the fate of my precious younger sister who saved me from loneliness, and the little girl she cherishes!
You can hate me if you want! You all did nothing wrong, but I, the Sword Saint Aria, am the one who killed you. So, when peace returns to the city, you can all hate me.
I swung my sword wildly, killing them one after the other.
Sometimes people have their arms cut off, sometimes their stomachs ripped open, their organs spilling out, and they die crying out in agony.
And my body... became covered in their blood and organs.
Ahh... It's just like my heart itself. I betrayed the person I loved, trampled on them... it's tainted, it's me.
Even with these thoughts in my mind, I didn't stop killing. No matter how much I blamed myself, it was no reason to abandon the two people behind me.
Kill the last one...
I stared at the bar floor, which was covered in a sea of blood, for a little while, then looked back where Chris and Reno.
---Right in front of Chris and Reno, a middle-aged man was lying on the ground, bleeding profusely from his neck.
The one who killed the man was... Reno-chan, who Chris called her little sister, and was still a teenager. Reno-chan's face had turned pale, as if she had just realized what she had done.
"Ah... Ah, Onee-chan... I... I .... I just kill someone... Hiccup..."
Reno shows Chris her blood-stained body, crying and trembling...
There was some blood on her clothes when she hugged Chris, but now she was completely red, a completely different colour.
I, I have failed.
I let one of those beasts get to Chris and her...and soiled little Reno-chan's beautiful hands...
Ahh... Why... why am I always so careless?
It should have been fine if I was the only one getting my hands dirty...to think I'd end up causing such trauma to a young child.
"Reno, you have done nothing wrong... If anyone is at fault, it is me! I made Reno do this... it is my fault..."
Saying this, Chris burst into tears and hugged the blood-covered Reno tightly.
As I thought, Chris is amazing... If I were in her position, I wouldn't be able to say anything in front of Reno-chan like that.
"Oh, it's okay! I'm okay... ugh... sniff."
"Don't cry, Reno. I was the one who killed him, not Reno. I made Reno kill him. So... so you know? Reno is not guilty..."
Gently stroking Reno's head, Chris repeats the same thing over and over again.
Couldn't I have done better?
If they had done so, perhaps such a sad scene could have been avoided...?
Seeing Reno-chan in grief after having killed someone for the first time, and Chris holding her tightly in tears, saying she would take all the blame in order to protect Reno-chan's heart...But still, I....
Can I say I protected them?
No, I can't say that. Because, like this.
This is just too much to handle...!
The sight of the two of them grieving in pain while holding each other tightly,
All I could do was watch, tears streaming down my face...
Reno's acting and Chris' acting mix together and drive you crazy and kill you.
