Chapter 295: President Pei, There's a 100,000 Yuan Bonus Just for You

Chapter 295: President Pei, There's a 100,000 Yuan Bonus Just for You

Tengda’s chief game designer, President Pei, was inwardly full of resistance.

An official interview? They want to talk to me about the creative process behind these games?

My creative process is: I’m suffering!

Every time I make a game, it becomes a hit. Why is it so hard to make a game that actually loses money?

They’ll probably ask all sorts of questions about Game Producer and Turn Back Before It's Too Late, flogging the corpse over and over again, reopening his wounds.

This is just too much!

What’s more, doing an official interview… doesn’t that count as publicity?

Wouldn’t even more players be drawn in to buy Tengda’s games?

So Pei Qian instinctively resisted.

Assistant Xin paused for a moment, then spoke in a persuasive tone:

“It’s best… to go anyway.”

“After all, this is an official interview. Most game companies would never get the chance.”

“And the officials have helped our company a lot up to now. We should at least show some respect.”

Pei Qian suddenly felt like a grade-school kid who didn’t want to go to class.

Speaking of how much help the officials had provided Tengda up to now, Pei Qian got angry all over again.

Help?!

It’s bad enough that they gave us a recommendation slot! Then they made a whole recommendation column for us, showering the games with ridiculous praise that misled consumers. The most outrageous part was when they changed the revenue split to 70/30!

Every time, he suffered huge losses.

If the officials hadn’t been constantly interfering, would he be sitting here sick, still stressing about how to lose money?

Pei Qian thought for a moment and asked, “If I don’t go, will the officials blacklist us?”

“Will they stop giving Tengda recommendation slots and change the revenue split back to 50/50?”

Assistant Xin was speechless.

“No, it shouldn’t go that far.”

Not blacklisted?

What a pity!

Pei Qian pondered. If he offended the officials a bit and they reduced the recommendation slots in the future, wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Assistant Xin continued, “They said it’ll just be a simple conversation. It won’t take much of your time.”

“So, why not?”

Pei Qian: “……”

Assistant Xin added, “Oh, and while interviewing us, they’ll also be presenting Tengda with an official trophy, recognizing our company’s outstanding contribution to original games.”

Pei Qian: “……”

Assistant Xin: “And there will be a personal award for you as well, honoring your achievements as a designer. A 100,000-yuan bonus.”

“Of course, it’s not a lot of money, mainly it's—”

Pei Qian: “Tell them to come!”

“Huh?” Assistant Xin froze, completely shocked at President Pei’s sudden 180-degree turn.

He was so resistant a moment ago—how did he agree in the blink of an eye?

Pei Qian coughed twice.

“I thought about it. I really should accept this interview.”

“More importantly, this honor doesn’t belong to me alone. It’s the result of the entire Tengda team’s hard work. Even though I’m busy, and I’m not interested in things like awards, my employees deserve this chance to be recognized.”

“So for the sake of Tengda’s staff, I must accept the interview.”

Pei Qian spoke with righteous conviction.

“Yes, yes, President Pei, you’re absolutely right,” Assistant Xin said approvingly. “Not everyone is as indifferent to fame and fortune as you are. These rewards should be claimed.”

Pei Qian thought for a moment.

“How many reporters will be coming?”

Assistant Xin said, “It’s not confirmed yet. It depends on the scale of the interview. If it’s just a written article, one reporter is enough. If they want to shoot a video, they’ll need at least a cameraman.”

“None of this is fixed. How many people they bring and how many days they’ll interview mainly depends on what we want.”

Pei Qian nodded. “Alright.”

“Since the officials are giving us such respect, let’s handle everything at the highest standard! Have them bring more accompanying staff, and once they arrive in Jingzhou, all expenses will be covered by us.”

Assistant Xin asked, “Including lodging and meals?”

Pei Qian nodded. “Yes, and flights too. If the officials are coming all the way here for an interview, we should show proper hospitality. We’ll cover all expenses.”

Assistant Xin didn’t question it further. “Okay, President Pei, I’ll arrange it right away.”

Originally, President Pei had wanted to refuse. But he hadn’t expected the cunning officials to prepare a personal reward!

Of course, 100,000 yuan wasn’t much for the current President Pei—but… it wasn’t little either!

And suddenly, Pei Qian realized that this was a chance to spend money.

Since he had already decided to drink poison to quench thirst before settlement, why not go all the way?

The official interview team coming to Jingzhou—covering flights, hotels, meals, and then treating everyone to a meal at Mingyun Private Kitchen—that alone was a decent expense.

Of course, Pei Qian knew this might have side effects, like… raising Tengda’s favorability in the eyes of the officials. Once the interview was published, game sales might rise again.

But Pei Qian had already come up with a countermeasure.

During the interview, he would tell a bit of the actual truth, ruthlessly tank player goodwill, and ideally stir up controversy to indirectly hit recent game sales.

Wouldn’t that be perfect?

For the sake of losing money at settlement, he was going all in!

October 17th, Sunday.

Afternoon.

Airport.

Stepping onto Jingzhou soil for the first time, Xia Jiang looked at the ultra-luxurious interview lineup behind her and felt the heavy weight of responsibility on his shoulders.

The official interview team had brought nine people in total.

Xia Jiang, the chief editor handling written interviews, would be conducting the interview with President Pei. She had brought along an intern to assist him.

Four photographers: one for the main camera, two for roaming shots, and a young, strong assistant responsible for carrying equipment.

Two videographers, responsible for filming.

And one business coordinator, Xiao Zhang, in charge of communicating with Tengda, arranging the schedule, and handling logistics.

Among the nine people, aside from the intern, everyone was experienced and highly qualified. This interview team was basically a dream lineup.

A normal interview would never receive such a high specification—usually it was one reporter, one videographer, and one photographer, and sometimes the reporter and photographer were the same person.

Nothing as grand as this.

Xia Jiang had long heard of Tengda. She knew it was a rapidly rising game company in Jingzhou whose main business had already expanded beyond just games.

Rumor had it that the company’s boss was quite a legendary figure. So Xia Jiang—and everyone on the interview team—felt extremely curious.

The reason they brought so many people was because Tengda had requested it.

Which meant Tengda placed great importance on this interview.

So when Xia Jiang received this assignment, she treated it with utmost seriousness, believing it might be a very important interview mission.

Tengda showed great sincerity this time, arranging one seven-seater business van and another standard business vehicle. Not only would they handle airport pickup and drop-off, but they would also cover food and lodging throughout the interview.

The two vehicles took the team directly to their hotel, where staff were waiting to help everyone check in.

Just like when Qiao Liang and Zhang Zuting visited, they had arranged a high-end hotel, with fruit platters, desserts, and a coffee machine thoughtfully prepared in each room—extremely high standards.

After a short rest, everyone gathered in the hotel lobby, ready to head to Tengda Games for the exclusive interview with President Pei.

Meanwhile, Pei Qian was confirming the itinerary of the interview team.

“This afternoon, take them to visit some of the better scenic spots in Jingzhou.”

“In the evening, we’ll have dinner at Mingyun Private Kitchen. The dishes are already arranged.”

“Tomorrow, Monday, we can let them experience Moyu Internet Café.”

“In the afternoon… they can visit the remaining scenic spots in Jingzhou—specifically those with more expensive tickets.”

“In the evening, arrange for everyone to dine at another high-end restaurant.”

“The day after, it should more or less be time to start the interview.”

“They can interview employees from every department. Try to drag it out to three days and get more footage.”

“After the interviews are done, before they leave, let them rest in Jingzhou for another day—until Saturday.”

“Saturday evening, go to Mingyun Private Kitchen again for a farewell dinner.”

“Then take their flight on Sunday. Exactly one week. Perfect.”

“When they leave, remember to buy some presentable souvenirs—ten sets per person—so they can take them back to give to colleagues.”

“Mm, that should do it.”

After calculating the expenses for the whole trip, a smile naturally appeared on Pei Qian’s face.

In Pei Qian’s eyes, these reporters weren’t just tools for filming him—they were wonderful friends who had come to help him spend money.

As the saying goes, “Pluck a feather from every passing goose; thieves never leave empty-handed.”

Since so many people had finally come to Jingzhou, he absolutely couldn’t let them escape without spending money!

After confirming the itinerary, Pei Qian checked the time. It was about time to leave.

Arriving at the hotel, Pei Qian met the official interview team and gave Xia Jiang and the others a warm welcome.

Just like most people meeting Pei Qian for the first time, Xia Jiang was surprised by how young he looked.

After some polite greetings—

“President Pei, shall we head to the company? Our equipment is all set. We can start filming anytime,” Xia Jiang said, thinking entirely about work.

“No rush, no rush,” Pei Qian waved. “This afternoon, Assistant Xin will take everyone around Jingzhou to get a feel for the local culture.”

Xia Jiang blinked. “Uh? President Pei, shouldn’t we focus on work first? Once the work is done, we can stroll around if there’s time.”

Pei Qian replied sternly, “This is work!”

“As the saying goes, ‘Local water and soil shape local people.’ Tengda is a company nurtured by Jingzhou. If you want to film Tengda, shouldn’t you film Jingzhou first? Touring some scenic spots and experiencing Jingzhou’s atmosphere and environment will help with your filming later.”

“I’ve also arranged a banquet tonight so everyone can experience Jingzhou cuisine and spark some creative inspiration.”

“Guests follow the host’s arrangements. Just leave everything to me.”

“Alright, everyone, get in the car!”

The bewildered filming team was coaxed and herded by President Pei onto the vehicles, thus beginning their spending—ah no, sightseeing tour of Jingzhou.
