Chapter 317: It Will Definitely Be a Masterpiece

Chapter 317: It Will Definitely Be a Masterpiece

This judge owns a luxurious villa and can take the girl out during the daytime. After seeing a more beautiful world, she naturally has no interest in the cramped two-person capsule the male protagonist had dreamed of.

She had originally planned to confess everything to the male protagonist earlier and be with the judge, but a few days ago, the judge suddenly changed his attitude and stopped contacting her altogether, disappearing without a trace.

The male protagonist understands that the girl has been abandoned. That judge probably just wanted a change of flavor and never intended to spend his life with her.

After calming down, the male protagonist still decides to accept the girl.

But the girl leaves decisively anyway.

After that, it is as if all color drains from the male protagonist’s life. He uses the money to rent a larger single-person space, buys ad-free video access, purchases many entertainment options, stuffs himself with all kinds of junk food meant to bring happiness, and in the end, spends whatever money remains tipping female streamers on TV, receiving two curt “thank yous” in return.

He continues to live in a dazed, muddled state. He no longer makes careful, conservative bets; instead, he throws all his money into high-odds wagers. Sometimes he wins a huge sum and goes on a wild spending spree; other times he loses everything and lies motionless in bed for days on end.

Until one day, five years later.

That day, the muddle-headed protagonist is once again watching television.

Suddenly, he discovers that a massive, all-or-nothing wager he placed long ago has actually hit, instantly yielding more than ten times the return!

His account now holds a large sum of money—enough to barely qualify him as a member of the civilian class!

The male protagonist is overjoyed. He can’t wait to share this good news with the female protagonist.

But he can’t find her. All he can do is wander around during his three hours of outdoor time each day, hoping that she hasn’t left the city.

He searches like this for over a month, yet still finds no trace of her.

With no other options left, the male protagonist thinks of a plan. He decides to spend money to appear on the talent show, where he will declare his love for the female protagonist on air, tell her that he has been waiting for her all along, and beg her to return to his side.

The talent show has enormous influence. Once it airs, the female protagonist will surely see it.

And so, the male protagonist steps onto the talent show’s stage.

Under the blazing spotlights, the male protagonist sees the judge who stole the girl from him—and then heartlessly abandoned her.

Originally, the male protagonist only wanted to tell everyone about his love and longing for the female protagonist, to recount the beautiful moments they once shared. But upon seeing the judge’s sanctimonious face, he suddenly loses control of his emotions.

Gripping the microphone, he denounces the judge in front of everyone as a sanctimonious hypocrite, a beast in human clothing. He accuses the judge of shamelessly stealing another man’s love and then ruthlessly discarding a kind-hearted girl.

He curses the judge with the most vicious words, venting all of his resentment, regret, and rage.

The entire venue falls into dead silence.

Yet after a brief pause, the hall erupts into thunderous applause!

Even the judge who has just been drenched in abuse laughs heartily and applauds, giving the male protagonist an emphatic thumbs-up.

The female judge beside him is so moved that tears stream down her face as she repeatedly wipes her eyes, and on the spot, she presses the approval button.

On the judges’ desk, four circles light up.

Four votes—unanimous approval.

The stage lights flash wildly, multicolored jets burst out, and dazzling special effects play in an endless loop.

This represents countless viewers online being deeply moved by the male protagonist and sending him donations.

As the male protagonist looks at the dazzling number above the stage, he realizes that in just these few minutes, the income from tips has already surpassed the total of his earnings over the past several years.

The judge he had just cursed showers him with praise, saying that it has been a long time since he had heard such an exhilarating piece of stand-up.

The judge extends an olive branch to the male protagonist, expressing his hope to tailor a television program specifically for him.

The male protagonist knows very clearly what this means.

This means he will possess unimaginable wealth and an extraordinary level of fame, followed by tens of thousands—perhaps even hundreds of thousands—of people.

Like the other wealthy elites, he will gain the right to move freely throughout the daytime, live in a spacious mansion, and wait as maids kneel at his side, placing peeled grapes into his mouth.

The male protagonist showers the judge with gratitude and revels in the moment.

At this very instant, he is the absolute center of the stage.

That very night after the show ends, the male protagonist is attentively served by two young women with curvaceous figures, fair skin, and beautiful faces.

He moves into a mansion, drives luxury cars, and, just as he had always wished, obtains the life he had long dreamed of.

One day, he receives a communication request. The female protagonist has indeed seen the program and wants to rekindle their relationship.

The male protagonist immediately extends an invitation to her.

He is now part of the wealthy class and can invite anyone to his mansion during the daytime.

When the female protagonist sees him, she is so moved that tears stream down her face.

However, the male protagonist is lounging with two young women in his arms, mocking the female protagonist with cold sarcasm, sneering at why she even has the nerve to show up.

The female protagonist breaks down, drops to her knees, and begs desperately, hoping the male protagonist will give her some money so that she can at least support her son.

Hearing the words “her son” only irritates the male protagonist further, but he does not immediately throw her out.

After weighing things carefully, he transfers her a sum of money anyway and tells her never to come back again.

After settling this matter, the male protagonist leans back on the sofa, sipping red wine, feeling both physically and mentally refreshed.

This money is not given out of a sudden pang of conscience, nor because old feelings have rekindled.

That night, the male protagonist is set to continue appearing on his own program, emotionally recounting the love story he once shared with the female protagonist.

He knows that the audience doesn’t actually care who the female protagonist really is. If she were truly found, the audience would quickly lose interest in the show.

Only by remaining a symbol—forever existing in the audience’s imagination—can she be most beautiful.

The moment the audience sees her current withered, haggard appearance, the “dream lover” image that the male protagonist painstakingly constructed for her would completely collapse.

Before going on stage, the male protagonist meets the judge.

He once hated the judge to the core, but now the judge is his financial backer, his patron, the man who remade his life.

Thus, the male protagonist treats the judge with the utmost respect.

The judge congratulates him and says that today is a very important occasion, hoping he will perform well.

The judge also says that he has prepared a surprise for the male protagonist.

Only then does the male protagonist remember—it seems that today is his birthday.

Back on stage, the male protagonist once again tearfully recounts his love story with the female protagonist, connecting live with several lucky fans and explaining to them the true meaning of love.

However, after the call-ins end, footage suddenly appears on the giant screen: a recording of the male protagonist mocking the female protagonist coldly in his living room.

The male protagonist panics. He desperately tries to block the screen, but in a live broadcast, the footage still appears on every viewer’s screen. His frantic attempts only make him look ridiculous.

The audience erupts in outrage. Online, countless furious viewers flood the program’s channel, hurling abuse at the male protagonist.

The male protagonist’s reputation is utterly ruined, his carefully crafted persona completely shattered.

The judge shows no intention of helping him. Instead, he has his lawyers produce the contract signed earlier: the male protagonist’s personal actions have severely damaged the company’s image, and he is required to compensate an enormous debt that he will never be able to repay.

As he looks at the male protagonist, who has lost everything, a sinister smile curls at the judge’s lips.

Not only has he taken revenge for being cursed on stage before, but he has also driven the show’s traffic to sky-high levels, gaining immense attention.

The judge casually pulls a young, beautiful woman at his side toward him and arranges for her to serve as the host of the program’s next episode.

The camera cuts. Inside a tiny capsule, the male protagonist lies on the bed, staring at the ceiling he would hit if he so much as lifted his head—like a living corpse.

After finishing the script, Pei Qian reviewed it once more and felt that, for his first time personally writing a screenplay, it actually wasn’t bad.

At the very least, the story was complete!

The goals he had originally set out to achieve were basically all met.

Take the male protagonist, for example: his life is miserable. After finally meeting a girl he likes, he turns into a full-on simp—only for the female protagonist to be stolen away by a judge.

Then the male protagonist keeps simping, only to be completely cut off—no rebound, no leftovers, nothing at all.

Later, the male protagonist suddenly obtains a huge sum of money and tries to find the girl again, cursing the judge out on stage and venting his anger in a cathartic outburst.

But almost immediately, he’s bought off by the judge. For money, he willingly becomes a dog, creating a sharp and disgusting contrast with his earlier righteous performance on stage.

When the female protagonist truly returns, the male protagonist has already discarded even his last shred of warmth and kindness. He mocks her coldly and pays her off, telling her never to come back again.

In the end, the male protagonist is framed and destroyed by the judge. Just as the blissful life of the rich is within reach, it vanishes into thin air. Not only does he return to abject poverty, but he also ends up saddled with a massive debt. His life is left with no hope whatsoever.

So—tell me—isn’t it miserable?

Isn’t it brutal?

Even Pei Qian himself felt poisoned to death just reading it. It was way too tragic!

The male protagonist wasn’t just a simp—he was also a coward and a despicable person.

The female protagonist wasn’t much better either: a perfect case of “a bitch and a dog, forever together.”

In short, judged by the standard of how nauseating it is to watch, this script had completely achieved its intended effect.

The ultimate poison.

Pei Qian glanced over it once more and discovered the final flaw of the script: the runtime might be a bit short.

After thinking it over, he added a couple more lines at the end.

If the runtime wasn’t long enough, they could simply extend the parts where the protagonist stays in his room watching videos and advertisements.

At that point, forget one and a half hours—stretching it to a full two and a half hours of padded runtime wouldn’t be a problem at all!

Plan complete!

Of course, President Pei was a benevolent man. He only wanted audiences not to buy tickets—he didn’t actually harbor any deep hatred toward them.

So just to be polite, stretching the movie to about an hour and a half would be enough.

As for everything else—character names, specific lines, movements, sets, storyboards, and so on—Pei Qian didn’t plan to get involved. He would just dump all of that on Huang Sibo and the others.

As long as they didn’t mess with the core story of the script, there shouldn’t be any major problems!

Job done, clock out—one hundred thousand yuan secured!

Pei Qian couldn’t help but sigh in amazement. Making money was really getting easier and easier these days!

Feihuang Studio.

Huang Sibo had just finished receiving President Pei’s script.

“President Pei’s efficiency is just insane!”

Huang Sibo was completely impressed.

Other screenwriters, even on rush jobs, still needed three to five months to write a script. If they were aiming for high quality, polishing it for a year or more wasn’t unusual.

Of course, that excluded the occasional chaos-loving director who wrote while shooting.

But when it came to President Pei—two or three days, and the script was already done!

Of course, strictly speaking, what President Pei wrote could only be considered a story outline. It was still far from a fully polished screenplay.

But even so, being able to come up with an outline like this was already no easy feat!

Huang Sibo hurriedly called Zhu Xiaoce over so the two of them could read it together.

When Zhu Xiaoce saw the completely nonstandard format, he felt a bit dizzy.

Huang Sibo quickly said, “President Pei comes from the gaming industry. Not understanding screenplay formatting is totally normal—and perfectly reasonable.”

“Format isn’t important. What matters is drawing nourishment from President Pei’s ideas.”

Zhu Xiaoce thought it over and felt that this really did make sense, so he quickly straightened his attitude.

The two of them read through the entire plot of the script from beginning to end.

Huang Sibo felt a bit dizzy.

“This… why does this story feel so suffocating to read?”

“The male protagonist is a poor nobody, and also a simp. Just when he’s finally on the verge of living a happy life, he’s instantly plunged from heaven straight into hell.”

“The female protagonist is just as miserable—dumped by the judge, forced to struggle through life while raising a child. After finally finding the male protagonist, she’s humiliated all over again.”

“And what’s most infuriating is that both of them brought this on themselves.”

“They had every chance to live better lives, yet they wasted them with their own hands.”

“Can this really work?”

He glanced at Zhu Xiaoce beside him.

Zhu Xiaoce didn’t answer right away. Instead, after a long silence, he suddenly raised his thumb.

“It can work!”

“This script is incredible!”

“This story is stirring and thought-provoking. It criticizes the exploitation of people by consumerism, the oppression of individuals by class structures, and the alienation of humanity by capital. Its depth of meaning is extraordinary!”

“The plot developments are unexpected yet entirely logical—full of twists and turns that make you want to applaud in admiration!”

“As expected of President Pei, to think that in just two or three days, he could write such a brilliant story!”

“President Pei is truly a once-in-a-generation talent. No matter what industry he enters, he would undoubtedly stand at the very top!”

Huang Sibo was a bit stunned. He hadn’t expected Zhu Xiaoce’s evaluation of the script to be this high.

“What we’ve been shooting before were all lighthearted, humorous comedy shorts.”

“Are you sure audiences will like this?”

Zhu Xiaoce nodded with absolute certainty. “I’m very sure!”

“After reading this script, I feel a kind of kindred-spirit resonance with President Pei.”

“I can vaguely grasp President Pei’s true intentions.”

“The audience may not necessarily like it—in other words, the box office may not be very high.”

“But in the eyes of those who can truly understand this film, it will absolutely be a masterpiece.”
