Chapter 22: The King, the Queen and the Spy

The King, the Queen and the Spy

The King of the Rose Kingdom, Crois Rose, was widely regarded by the people as a wise ruler.

The conflict between humans and demons was once extremely chaotic.

Under the current monarchy, the situation has been semi-stabilized from a state of maintaining the front line.

A major factor in this is that the king has a solid domestic administration.

It was rumored that Queen, Nay Rose, was also a beautiful and wise lady worthy of being a queen.

"Your Majesty, I've just returned."

"Well, I'm glad you returned so quickly. You must be tired after driving the express horse. I'd like to tell you to get some rest, but..."

"Yes, you should give him some vacation every once in a while."

"Your Majesty, I am deeply grateful for your thoughtfulness. However, I would like to take this opportunity to make an announcement."

"Oh, you're so honest too."

This is the study of the King of the Kingdom of Rose.

The king and queen sit gracefully on the sofa.

And there was a man who served them.

"Well, then let's hear the report right away."

"Well... to put it simply, the hero and his party successfully defended the strategic fort."

"I see... it's a recurring theme. I had reinforcements prepared, but it was all for nothing. As expected of someone chosen by the Holy Sword. And... what do you think of my unworthy daughter? I'm sure she's been well received by the hero, right?"

The king nodded in understanding to the man's report and continued speaking.

Aside from worrying about his daughter, he seems to be more concerned about whether she has been able to win over the hero.

"The princess appears to have become an indispensable fighting force for the hero's group. However, it seems she has not yet reached the stage of a romantic relationship with the hero."

"Is that so... Well, if she can form a decent connection with the hero, that'll be great too."

The king was somewhat impressed that his daughter was a useful piece.

After a short pause, the queen beside the king spoke.

"Cardinal... I mean, how about the Saint's performance? I'm more interested in her than the Hero."

“Hmm, even though it hasn’t been made public yet…it’s unusual to be appointed as Cardinal at such a young age. What’s more, she even holds the title of Saint. It’s understandable that my wife, who is a devout believer, would be concerned.”

The queen, sitting next to the king, showed great interest in the saint.

"Yes, during the battle, the Saint was caught off guard by a demon general and was fatally wounded, after which she was taken away by the demons..."

"Wh, what did you say?! That's not good! If the current Cardinal... and especially the Saint, were to be found dead on the battlefield... it would be a disaster for the Church and our country!"

"Please calm down... I'm sure everything will be fine. Is there more to the story? Tell me."

While the king could not hide his agitation, the queen narrowed her eyes and questioned the man.

"Your Majesty, too much for everyone surprise. The next day, the saint returned home with all her limbs intact, as if nothing had happened."

"Huh!! I, I see... that's a stroke of luck..."

"See, as I said... She is truly a Cardinal."

The queen looked proudly at her husband.

"However, there was a problem when she returned."

"Well, you're being timid. Well, tell me."

"Her Holiness said that she wanted to negotiate a peace agreement with the demons..."

"That's a bit dubious. Is she being manipulated by the demons?"

The king was suspicious of the sudden talk of peace.

"According to the Hero, Her Holiness is in her right mind. Just to be sure, I also, though afraid, had other priest appraise her... and there was certainly nothing wrong with Her Holiness."

"I see... but how did Her Holiness gain the favor of the demons..."

"I don't know the details either. However, as proof of this, a demon messenger has been sent with a letter. The messenger will soon be arriving in the royal capital together with the Hero."

"Well! If the Hero is coming to the royal capital, that means the Cardinal will be coming too!"

The queen's eyes lit up as she clasped her hands together and spoke as if praying.

"Yes! Your Majesty the Queen is right."

"Ah... I too would like to receive the divine protection of the great gods through Her Holiness... I hope she will come to the royal capital soon."

The Queen seems to be more concerned about the Saint than the Hero or Peace.

"Hmm! I thought it might be some kind of scheme by the demons... but I was foolish to doubt the Cardinal. If possible, I would like to take this opportunity to ask Her Holiness to once again place her trust in me."

The king brought the conversation back on track to calm his enthusiastic queen.

"Yes. However, even though she is a messenger, the demon who is coming is a renowned demon generals. It is best to be on our guard. If I notice any strange behavior, I will report it immediately."

"Well, I'll see you to it."

"Yes! As you wish!"

"Hehehe... I'm looking forward to it. I must hurry and get the chamberlains ready for the reception."

The king was frantically racking his brains to think about the sudden change in the situation.

Meanwhile, the queen is carefree and looking forward to the heroes' arrival.

Meanwhile...

The heroes, including Satya, were camping and enjoying Tiana's homemade ramen.

It seems that **ro-style ramen was so delicious that it was accepted even in another world.

Tiana was convinced that it would be a huge hit, so she planned to commercialize it.

However, she gave up on the idea as it didn't suit her worldview and decided to open a bakery instead.
