Chapter 71: The System’s Recoil
Chapter 71: The System’s Recoil
"This person? I’m taking her with me," Chen Yin said lightly, as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
The vast hall of the demonic faction fell into a moment of silence after his words.
The Demonic Faction Dao Lord stared at him blankly for a long time before bursting into laughter.
“Hahaha! Are you joking?”
“Of course not,” Chen Yin replied with a shrug. “She’s my one and only junior sister. If I don’t bring her home to be my wife, what else am I supposed to do?”
Yu Xiang’s tears hadn’t even dried. She stared at Chen Yin, dazed and speechless.
“Oh?” The Demonic Faction Dao Lord raised an eyebrow and spoke slowly.
“Are you so confident that you can take her from me?”
“I don’t know if I can or not,” Chen Yin said, his smile fading slightly. “But if you don’t let her go, you might die.”
“Is that so? Then I’d like to see for myself,” the Demonic Faction Dao Lord said, stepping forward.
The moment his foot touched the ground, a resonant thud echoed in everyone’s hearts, as though it stomped directly on their chests.
The pressure was so overwhelming that Yu Xiang’s expression changed dramatically. She struggled to stand and moved to shield Chen Yin.
“Stop! If you dare harm him, don’t blame me for going down with you!”
Below the platform, Shen Shuanglian leaped lightly to Chen Yin’s side, whispering,
“He’s likely a Great Purity Realm cultivator, and if he has comprehended Dao resonances, that sword technique you learned may not be enough.”
Chen Yin nodded slightly. “That’s true.”
“While that sword strike does contain hidden Dao resonances, it’s still a bit challenging against a true Great Purity Realm expert.”
“Fortunately,” he continued, his gaze lowering slightly as his flawless jade-like sword, Changming, floated out from his sleeve.
The pristine blade hovered horizontally in front of him. Holding the sword in one hand, his expression remained fearless.
“—I never said I only knew one sword move.”
Shen Shuanglian stared at him, dumbfounded.
“Since you’re so confident, let me test your skills!” the Demonic Faction Dao Lord declared, stepping forward.
A quiet, black sphere formed in his hand, radiating a chilling stillness.
As soon as the sphere appeared, all the lights in the hall were extinguished. The grand hall plunged into an abyss of darkness, as though all light had been devoured by the black sphere.
In the suffocating darkness, Chen Yin’s voice reached Shen Shuanglian and Yu Xiang’s ears.
“Get back. Protect yourselves.”
Yu Xiang wanted to argue, but Shen Shuanglian grabbed her hand and pulled her far away.
“Senior Brother, he—”
“Trust him,” Shen Shuanglian said softly. “That’s enough.”
The black sphere in the Demonic Faction Dao Lord’s hand expanded slowly, exuding an oppressive aura.
As it grew, a desolate wind swept outward, making the entire hall feel like it had been abandoned for centuries, steeped in a stench of decay.
Holding the black sphere in one hand and standing arrogantly with the other behind his back, the Demonic Faction Dao Lord spoke coldly:
“You have one last chance to regret this.”
Chen Yin casually stretched his neck, muttering to himself, “Ah, the feeling of no restrictions is nice.”
Here, he wasn’t at Yushan Mountain. He didn’t have to worry about the destructive power of his sword strike erasing the whole mountain range and earning his master’s wrath.
Nor did he fear accidentally hurting anyone. Both Xiang’er and his senior sister had retreated sensibly.
For the first time outside the scroll’s dimension, Chen Yin could freely wield his three sword techniques without restraint.
The sensation was indescribably pleasant.
“Why do people like you always give others a chance?” Chen Yin asked, raising his sword with a smirk.
“Do you really think anyone would want such a pathetic offer?”
“Surely not, right? That would be utterly revolting.”
The Demonic Faction Dao Lord’s expression darkened as his aura grew more hostile.
“You like to talk? Then die!”
The black sphere left his hand, its power surging exponentially as it absorbed everything around it.
It's terrifying, black hole-like force left everyone in the hall—whether ordinary cultivators or elders—prostrate on the ground, struggling against its pull.
Chen Yin stood motionless before the sphere, his eyes calm as he gazed at it.
The Changming in his hand vibrated, humming softly.
“Sorry to keep you waiting,” he murmured to the sword.
You’ve been waiting for this moment, haven’t you? Holding back for so long.
Raising the sword slowly, a mysterious and ancient aura began to emanate from its blade.
The aura, imbued with primordial simplicity and timeless profundity, grew denser and more radiant, transitioning from a faint glimmer to a brilliant, scorching sun.
Eternal darkness, starlit nights, and an ever-bright flame.
“—The second strike,” Chen Yin whispered.
In the next instant, blinding light erupted.
Like the sun piercing the remnants of night, the sword’s radiance devoured the darkness.
The black sphere in midair disintegrated under the brilliance of this sword, vanishing with a thunderous crash.
The blinding light forced everyone to shut their eyes.
Only the Demonic Faction Dao Lord remained unmoving, his pupils shrinking as the sword light grew in his vision.
When the light receded, Chen Yin stood on the platform, his sword in hand, unscathed and untouched by even a speck of dust.
Opposite him, the Demonic Faction Dao Lord was silent.
He lowered his gaze to his left arm, now severed cleanly at the shoulder.
After a long moment of staring at the empty space, he raised his head and asked, “…Why didn’t you kill me?”
“It’s not that I didn’t want to,” Chen Yin said with a light shrug. “It’s that my sword didn’t want to.”
He wasn’t joking.
When he executed the second strike, Changming veered ever so slightly at the last moment.
Thus, the strike landed only on the Demonic Faction Dao Lord’s arm.
Even so, the severed arm showed no blood, no wound—only a clean, seamless cut.
He couldn’t comprehend the power but clearly felt that the arm, after being severed by that sword, was devoid of sensation, lifeforce, or spiritual energy.
It was as if they had vanished silently and completely from this world, disappearing without a trace.
This eerie and overwhelming power was something he had never seen or heard of before.
Finally, he glanced again at the sword in Chen Yin’s hand.
“What’s the name of that sword?”
“Changming,” Chen Yin answered without hesitation.
“Do you recognize this sword?”
The Demonic Faction Dao Lord did not reply. Instead, his eyes flickered with a mysterious light as he stared intently at the sword.
After a long silence, a deep sigh echoed.
"Endless night without desolation, eternal brilliance across the ages."
“…You may leave.”
He slowly closed his eyes and said, “From this day forward, the demonic faction no longer requires a saintess.”
Chen Yin was momentarily stunned, as though he couldn’t understand why this man had suddenly changed his mind.
“Then we’re even.”
Chen Yin said softly, “I’ll take my junior sister back home, and you get to keep your life. From now on, we owe each other nothing.”
With that, he sheathed Changming and, amidst the fearful and awed gazes of countless demonic cultivators, slowly walked out of the grand hall, heading toward Yu Xiang and Shen Shuanglian.
“Let’s go.” He smiled.
“It’s all over now.”
Yu Xiang seemed lost in the aftermath of the earth-shattering strike earlier. She remained dazed for a while before murmuring blankly:
“Senior brother…”
“Hey, hey, hey, let me make this clear first. Don’t start talking about regrets or fear now,” Chen Yin quickly said. “You’ve been taken away by me, so your words don’t count anymore.”
“No need to agonize over what choice to make. This matter is completely on me now.”
Yu Xiang stared blankly for a long moment. Then, her nose twitched, and she almost burst into tears again.
“Hey, wait, don’t cry yet.”
Chen Yin panicked. “If you’ve got something to say, let’s talk at home. We’re still in someone else’s territory here.”
“Don’t air our dirty laundry and give outsiders something to laugh at.”
Hearing this, Yu Xiang burst into laughter through her tears and said, amused:
“Stupid senior brother. Who’s your family member?”
“Aren’t we all part of Yushan Mountain? How can we not be family?”
Chen Yin explained earnestly, which made Yu Xiang both exasperated and amused.
Shen Shuanglian, on the other hand, remained silent, quietly following Chen Yin from the start, watching the interaction between the two.
“All right, no more tears.”
Chen Yin reached out, wiped away the tears from the corners of Yu Xiang’s eyes, and gently rubbed her tear-swollen eyelids. He said softly:
“It’s time to go home. Master is still waiting for us on the mountain.”
“…Mm.” Yu Xiang obediently nodded.
“This time, when we get back to the mountain, you have to tell Senior Brother everything. No more hiding or holding back.”
“Mm.”
“That’s more like it.” Chen Yin finally smiled in relief.
As the three of them stepped out of the headquarters of the demonic faction, Yu Xiang suddenly paused in her tracks.
A tired and venomous voice suddenly echoed in her mind.
[…Yu Xiang, you’ve deeply disappointed me]
[By stepping out of the demonic faction headquarters, the plot record is now completely broken]
[And without completing the storyline record, I will also vanish along with it]
[Since you insist on erasing me, don’t blame me for being merciless]
Yu Xiang’s eyes contracted sharply.
“Senior Brother, watch out!”
Chen Yin frowned slightly and was about to turn when an invisible force surged straight toward him.
Changming appeared in his hand almost instantly. Just as he was about to strike, an elderly, ethereal sigh sounded from the other side.
[…Ah]
[So be it]
[Since I don’t have much time left, I might as well do one last good deed]
Shen Shuanglian froze, and a wave of ethereal energy emanated from her.
The two invisible forces collided in the void.
In the next moment, a voice filled with both rage and despair echoed:
[Wha–!? You! You’re insane!]
[Stop, I refuse to accept this, I refuse to accept it!!!]
The indistinct voice echoed for only a moment before dissipating into nothingness.
The surroundings returned to calm, as if nothing had happened.
Chen Yin, sensing something, reached out his hand, and two broken pieces of iron inexplicably appeared in his palm.
—They were two shattered fragments of iron.
