Chapter 73: The Seasoned Kidnapper

Chapter 73: The Seasoned Kidnapper

That night.

After Yu Xiang and Shen Shuanglian fell asleep, Chen Yin quietly put on his clothes and lightly leapt out of the window.

Following a faint sense of connection through the master-servant contract, Chen Yin walked for a while and arrived at a small inn in a neighboring town.

On the second floor of the inn, just as Chen Yin reached the door, it opened. A small, fluffy fox darted into his arms.

"Young Master, you're finally safe!"

"Of course. Who do you think your young master is?"

Chen Yin fondly ruffled her fox ears. "Your young master is invincible."

Luo Luo buried her soft little head into his chest.

A light snort came from the side.

"Pervert."

Chen Yin coughed awkwardly and set Luo Luo down, turning to ask:

"How are Ya Ya and the others' injuries?"

"Not good," Luo Luo's expression quickly became downcast. "Sister Qing Ying and I applied some medicine to their wounds, but it only temporarily eased their condition."

"They’re so frail that they fainted not long after escaping and still haven’t woken up."

Chen Yin walked to the bed and looked at the five emaciated little foxes sprawled out in disarray. His brow furrowed slightly.

He checked the state of their internal energy flows one by one. Every single one of them had fragile, damaged meridians, so weak that even using his energy to heal them was out of the question.

"They’re too weak. Even if I still had some nourishing pills, their bodies wouldn’t be able to handle them."

Leaning against the doorframe, Qing Ying, with her tall and graceful figure, said coolly:

"But in their current state, there’s no time to let them slowly recover. If they aren’t treated soon, their frail bodies could give out at any moment."

Chen Yin lowered his head in thought and asked softly, "Do you have any medical training in the Misty Spirit Sect secret division?"

"What are you thinking?"

Qing Ying looked at him like he was an idiot and said word by word, "The Misty Spirit Sect secret division is for killing, not healing. Of course we don’t know about medicine."

"If you want to save them, why don’t you find a doctor?"

Easier said than done. Chen Yin sighed inwardly. But where could he find a doctor now?

"The Xianyun Prefecture is so desolate that there probably isn’t a single mortal doctor within a hundred miles. If we really want to find one, we’ll likely have to go much farther…"

His voice trailed off, and he fell into deep thought.

—Of course.

This place was already at the border of Xianyun Prefecture, adjacent to the eastern Yanxia Prefecture.

Although Yanxia Prefecture wasn’t particularly large or famous for its cultivation, it had a substantial mortal population and was known as a prominent secular region.

Due to the lack of cultivators, mortals in the area lived relatively peaceful and stable lives.

"Yanxia Prefecture is only a few hundred miles away. If I move quickly, I might be able to grab a mortal doctor and bring them back before dawn."

When Qing Ying heard the word "grab," her expression turned strange as she glanced at him.

But Chen Yin, growing more convinced of his plan, muttered to himself:

"Ya Ya and the others are too weak. Strong immortal medicines could do more harm than good. A mortal doctor might actually be better for nursing them back to health."

"Yes, this could work."

He immediately said in a low voice, "Take care of Ya Ya and the others. I’m heading to Yanxia Prefecture to bring back a doctor."

"Be careful on the road, Young Master!"

Luo Luo waved obediently, while Qing Ying turned her head away without a word.

Leaving the inn, Chen Yin rode the moonlight, transforming into a streak of swordlight heading eastward.

<+>

Yanxia Prefecture bordered Xianyun Prefecture.

By the time Chen Yin finally found a moderately prosperous small town, it was nearly midnight.

The streets were empty, most houses had already gone dark, and only a few showed faint glimmers of candlelight.

At this hour, the medical clinics were certainly closed, so Chen Yin could only search house by house.

After a tiring search, he finally stopped in front of an impressive-looking medical clinic.

"Xiaoxiang Medical Hall? Judging by its size, this seems to be a large clinic."

Muttering to himself, Chen Yin stepped forward and silently entered the estate.

By now, the expansive clinic had fallen into darkness. Most of its occupants were likely asleep, with only a few rooms still faintly lit by candlelight.

Chen Yin had no idea where to find anyone at this late hour, so he decided to approach one of the rooms that still had a candlelight burning inside.

As he got closer, he heard the faint sound of water splashing and a woman humming softly.

—Why is someone taking a bath at this hour? Chen Yin felt instantly awkward.

Unable to interrupt, he decided to wait outside until the woman finished bathing to inquire about a doctor.

However, to his surprise, even after waiting for nearly an hour, with this being the only lit room left in the entire estate, the woman still hadn't finished her bath.

Chen Yin was growing numb from waiting.

Honestly, aside from his master, he had never seen anyone take such an extraordinarily long bath.

Seeing that continuing to wait could drag on indefinitely and knowing he was short on time, Chen Yin reluctantly cleared his throat and called out softly:

"Ahem. Excuse me, miss. When will you be done bathing? I have something to ask you."

The sound of water stopped abruptly, followed by a wary voice:

"Who's there?"

"Uh, just someone passing by in need of medical help," Chen Yin replied innocently. "I was planning to wait until you were done, but… honestly, your bath is breaking all human limits."

After a long silence, a soft voice came from inside:

"Wait a moment."

So Chen Yin waited patiently again.

But ten minutes later, there was still no further response from the room.

Unable to hold back, Chen Yin called out again: "Miss, are you done yet?"

The moment he spoke, a sudden commotion erupted around him. Torches flared to life, and a crowd of servants swarmed in from all directions, surrounding Chen Yin and the room in layers.

"Protect the young lady! Catch the intruder!"

Chen Yin: "…"

—I knew it.

As the torch-bearing servants formed an impenetrable circle around him, Chen Yin could only smile wryly.

"Miss, I really just want to ask for medical help. I swear I had no improper intentions."

"Rubbish!" A servant glared at him. "Sneaking into the estate in the dead of night—what kind of person seeking medical treatment does this? And standing right outside the lady's room while she's bathing? What else could you be but a pervert?"

"Exactly! Another shameless scoundrel trying to ogle our lady’s beauty!"

Chen Yin’s expression: dripping with sweat emoji.

Seriously, who even is your young lady? What kind of legendary beauty would make me come all this way just to spy on her bathing?

Realizing that wasting more time here would ruin his chances of getting back before dawn, Chen Yin sighed deeply.

"Fine, I’m in a hurry. Let’s cut to the chase—who’s the doctor here?"

"Hmph, still pretending!" a servant sneered. "In Yanxia Prefecture, even a three-year-old knows that our young lady, Nan Xiaoxiang, is a renowned doctor, so skilled that even the governor shows her respect. How dare you feign ignorance!"

Impressive.

In that case, I won’t hold back.

Tired of explaining, Chen Yin dropped the pretense:

"Well, then I’ll have to trouble her, won’t I?"

With that, he leapt forward, bursting through the door and into the room.

Inside sat a delicate woman in simple white clothing, her figure soft and fragile like a willow. She looked utterly stunned by Chen Yin’s sudden intrusion.

Before she could say a word, Chen Yin swept her onto his shoulder and bolted.

Changming streaked through the air as Chen Yin jumped onto it, soaring away amidst the shouts of the mortals below.

"A—A cultivator!?"

"Damn it! The young lady has been kidnapped by an immortal!"

"Quick! Inform the master!"

<+>

Changming cut through the night like the wind.

Chen Yin, entirely unconcerned with appearances, carried the woman over his shoulder without even noticing her soft waist. His only goal was to return as quickly as possible.

As the wind howled past, the woman remained silent and unmoving.

Chen Yin began to worry. Had he scared her to death? He gave her a small shake.

"Miss, are you still alive? If you are, just make a sound."

The woman said nothing.

Helpless, Chen Yin set her down, only to find that not only was she unharmed, but her bright eyes were fixed calmly on him, her expression devoid of fear.

Her fair, snow-like complexion glowed faintly under the moonlight filtering through the clouds.

Faced with her clear and tranquil gaze, Chen Yin felt a bit embarrassed.

"Uh… my apologies, miss," he muttered. "It wasn’t right to whisk you away like this in the middle of the night. But I do have friends in urgent need of medical attention, and desperation led me to this."

"I promise I’ll personally escort you back and offer my sincerest apologies once this is over. Will that do?"

The woman seemed unfazed, her tone calm as she countered, "Is this how all immortals invite people?"

Chen Yin scratched his head awkwardly.

"My bad… As long as you save my friends first, you can deal with me however you like afterward. How’s that?"

The wind roared as Changming raced through the clouds, the moonlight casting a serene glow over the sky.

The woman gave him a faint glance before turning her head, her long lashes trembling slightly.

"…Fine."

"The patients come first. We’ll settle this later."

Chen Yin nodded hurriedly.

The wind tugged at her white robes and hair. Her gaze dropped slightly as she suddenly murmured:

"Move to the front."

"Huh? Why?"

"The wind is too strong. I am, after all, just a mortal."

Chen Yin gave an "oh" and obediently shifted to the sword’s tip.

But as the woman lowered her head for a moment, she lightly gripped his sash and closed her eyes.

"…What now?"

"I’m afraid of heights," she said calmly.

Chen Yin was silent for a long while before letting out a slow sigh.

—It feels like I didn’t bring back an ancestor instead of a doctor.
