Chapter 75: Both People Are Learning Mischief

Chapter 75: Both People Are Learning Mischief

As Chen Yin's figure disappeared into the horizon, Nan Xiaoxiang stood still, gazing blankly at his retreating silhouette in the sky.

Before long, the entire mansion was filled with a clamor of voices.

“Miss is back!”

“Miss?! Are you okay? That cultivator didn’t harm you, did he?”

“I’m fine.” Nan Xiaoxiang calmly shook her head. “There was just an urgent case that required treatment, and he was a bit rough, that’s all. He didn’t harm me.”

“Thank the heavens!”

One of the servants, still visibly shaken, added, “We were so worried something might happen to you, Miss. We immediately informed the governor and the master. The master even prepared a carriage to personally visit the Canghe Sword Sect to request their help!”

“There’s no need to worry. I’ll explain everything to my father.”

Nan Xiaoxiang had just taken two steps before stopping and lowering her voice to give instructions:

“What happened today is not to be mentioned to anyone. Act as if it never happened. Understood?”

“Yes, Miss…”

“And prepare a few vacant guest rooms.” Her beautiful eyes softened, and her tone was calm. “There will be patients coming in a few days, and we’ll need them ready.”

After the servant quietly acknowledged her instructions, he hesitated and added with a troubled expression:

“Miss, should we still send someone to inform the Canghe Sword Sect that you’re safe?”

At these words, Nan Xiaoxiang frowned slightly, seeming a bit annoyed.

“I’ll figure that out myself.”

The servant didn’t dare press further and retreated obediently, leaving Nan Xiaoxiang standing alone in the courtyard. Her gaze lingered on the night-blooming jasmine swaying gently in the evening breeze, her eyes filled with melancholy.

“It might’ve been better… if I had really been taken away,” she murmured softly.

By the time Chen Yin returned to the small inn where Luo Luo and the others were staying, dawn was already breaking.

As he pushed the door open, a soft voice warned him:

“Move quietly. She just fell asleep.”

Turning his head, he saw Qing Ying sitting by the bedside. Luo Luo was curled up next to Ya Ya, sleeping deeply and peacefully.

Chen Yin paused briefly before asking, “Aren’t you going to rest for a bit too?”

“It’s fine. In our line of work, sleepless nights are common.” Qing Ying replied lightly, then gently closed the door, letting the little foxes rest undisturbed.

Outside the inn, the two walked along the corridor, one behind the other.

“What’s your plan from here?” Chen Yin asked.

“To follow you,” she replied seriously. “You’re the only one who knows where my brother is in the Cang Zhe Ancient Domain.”

Chen Yin chuckled. “You’ve decided to trust me? What about the sect?”

Qing Ying fell silent for a long moment before slowly shaking her head.

“I agreed to join the Misty Spirit Sect secret division back then because I wanted to take care of Ah Chen.”

“If something truly happened to Ah Chen in the Cang Zhe Ancient Domain, what’s the point of me staying in the Misty Spirit Sect secret division alone?”

“You’re more decisive than I expected,” Chen Yin said with a faint smile before his expression turned serious. “In that case, I need to ask you something. Did the Misty Spirit Sect secret division have any involvement in the events at Changli Palace years ago?”

Qing Ying narrowed her eyes slightly, as if scrutinizing him.

“Why are you so fixated on Changli Palace?”

“It’s related to my junior sister. It’s important to me,” Chen Yin said firmly.

Seeing the determination in his eyes, Qing Ying’s expression softened.

“…You guessed right. The Misty Spirit Sect secret division was indeed involved in the events at Changli Palace back then.”

“But unfortunately, that was more than ten years ago.” She crossed her arms nonchalantly. “At the time, neither Ah Chen nor I had joined the Misty Spirit Sect secret division. All I know are a few rumors from other members.”

Chen Yin frowned slightly. “The Misty Spirit Sect secret division specializes in doing the dirty work for sects. If they were involved, then the truth behind Changli Palace must be far different from what the outside world believes.”

“I don’t know the specifics,” Qing Ying hesitated before speaking. “But… it’s said that what happened at Changli Palace was utterly horrific.”

“And with the methods of the Misty Spirit Sect secret division, there’s no way anyone from Changli Palace could’ve survived.”

Chen Yin nodded silently, his eyes flickering with uncertainty.

“I understand. But there’s no need for you to follow me anymore.”

He added softly, “Stay here and take care of Luo Luo and the others. Once Ya Ya and the others recover in a few days, take them to Yanxia Prefecture and find the doctor who treated us—Miss Nan.”

“Her medical hall can help with their recovery afterward.”

“What about you?” Qing Ying frowned and countered.

“I’m going back to Yushan Mountain.” Chen Yin gazed into the distance and murmured to himself, “I have to take Xiang’er home.”

Qing Ying didn’t press further, only throwing out a cold remark:

“Fine. Come find me in Yanxia Prefecture soon.”

“By the way, do you still need to keep the sword energy inside me?”

“Keep it,” Chen Yin grinned. “Consider it a memento.”

“If you ever miss me, just think about that sword energy. It might ease your longing a bit.”

Qing Ying pursed her lips and gave a cold snort, her eyes briefly icy. She ignored his teasing, turned, and walked back into her room.

As Qing Ying departed, Chen Yin's smile gradually faded

—He still didn’t fully trust her.

Since Luo Luo and Ya Ya now relied on Qing Ying for care, leaving that strand of sword energy within her was, at the very least, a safeguard.

As dawn’s light began to creep over the horizon, Chen Yin turned back into the room before leaving.

Luo Luo was sound asleep, her lips faintly moving as though she were dreaming of something pleasant.

Over the past few days, she had hardly rested, always preoccupied with Ya Ya’s condition. Now, with the news of Ya Ya’s stabilization, exhaustion finally caught up with her, and she fell into a deep slumber.

Chen Yin left a note and gently sat by her bedside. He softly stroked her hair and ears.

“At least now, you can safely reunite with your friends,” he murmured with tenderness in his eyes.

“...I don’t feel so guilty anymore.”

In her sleep, Luo Luo’s ears twitched slightly, and a sweet smile bloomed on her chubby little face.

Chen Yin leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her forehead. Then, as the first rays of dawn broke through the sky, he set off to find Xiang’er and bring her home.

“Senior Brother, wake up!”

The morning had barely broken, and Yu Xiang was already banging loudly on Chen Yin’s door.

“If you don’t get up, I’m coming in to pull off your blanket!”

Moments later, the door creaked open, revealing Chen Yin’s sleepy yet ethereal face.

“What’s the rush… It’s so early. Can’t I sleep a bit longer?”

“Sleep? At this hour?” Yu Xiang gave him a suspicious look. “Why do you always seem so tired?

“You’re not... staying up late doing something that’s bad for your health, are you?”

Chen Yin: “...”

Uh-oh. Since when did Xiang start getting these mischievous ideas?

Suppressing a cough, Chen Yin forced out a response. “Just think of it as... me dealing with some physical needs. I don’t feel like explaining.”

The moment the words left his mouth, Chen Yin regretted them.

Because standing behind Yu Xiang was Shen Shuanglian.

“Uh, wait, that’s not what I—”

Chen Yin started to explain, but Shen Shuanglian didn’t seem particularly fazed. She asked softly instead:

“It’s getting late. We’ve rested for a night. Shouldn’t we set off to return today?”

Chen Yin nodded. “Yeah. If I don’t bring Xiang’er back soon, I’m afraid my master will lock me out of the mountain gate.”

Shen Shuanglian lowered her gaze slightly, her beautiful eyes dimming.

Noticing her expression, Chen Yin asked, “And you, Senior Sister?”

“Me?”

Shen Shuanglian hesitated, biting her lip. “I suppose... since my task is complete, I should return to the sect.”

“Is that your only option?”

“Eh?”

“I don’t want you to go back to the sect yet,” Chen Yin said earnestly, locking eyes with her.

Shen Shuanglian was caught off guard, suddenly at a loss for words.

“But… if I don’t return, where else could I—”

“Come back to Yushan Mountain with me,” Chen Yin said as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

His words left both Shen Shuanglian and Yu Xiang momentarily stunned.

“To Yushan Mountain? Why?” Shen Shuanglian’s face flushed ever so slightly.

“I plan to return to the mountain and discuss the matter of Changli Palace with Master,” Chen Yin explained.

“There might be some hidden secrets of the Misty Spirit Sect involved. I want you to hear them too.”

Shen Shuanglian blinked, her long lashes trembling in confusion.

“But... Aunt Yu Ling doesn’t seem to welcome me.”

“Don’t worry,” Chen Yin grinned. “Master’s one of those types—says one thing, feels another. Tsundere, you know?

“If a beautiful girl like you shows up, she’ll probably be secretly thrilled.”

Still unsure, Shen Shuanglian felt a gentle tug at her heart when Chen Yin said softly, “I just don’t want to make things difficult for you.”

“Be good. Alright?”

His tone wasn’t commanding, but rather coaxing, as if soothing an upset girlfriend.

Shen Shuanglian’s heart softened inexplicably, and she nodded obediently.

Yu Xiang watched them silently from the side.

Her dark eyes concealed a faint, dim light.

“All right,” Chen Yin said cheerfully. “Let’s set off for Yushan Mountain.”

Yu Xiang said nothing, quietly following behind the two of them.

Meanwhile, Shen Shuanglian shyly approached Chen Yin, speaking in a low, hesitant voice through sound transmission:

“By the way, there’s one more thing...”

“Hmm?”

“If you really...” Her cheeks flushed, and she seemed almost too embarrassed to speak. “If you really have needs you can’t handle on your own…”

“You could come to my room to... um, ask for help...” Her voice was barely audible, like a mosquito’s whisper.

Chen Yin stared at her, dumbfounded, for a long while.

Finally, he took a deep breath.

“Senior Sister, regular checkups are necessary if you’re unwell,” he said with a straight face.

“But let me clarify—what I said to Xiang’er earlier was just a joke.”

“Don’t take it seriously, okay?”

Shen Shuanglian blinked mischievously, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

Chen Yin frowned, a sense of foreboding washing over him.

—Great.

Now Senior Sister’s learning mischief too.
