Chapter 83: Who Said You’re the Only One Who Can Call for Backup?
Chapter 83: Who Said You’re the Only One Who Can Call for Backup?
Chen Yin’s words were like hitting the mute button at the noisy mountain gate.
Behind him, countless disciples fell silent. They seemed still lost in the shock that the mountain gate, which had stood for countless years, could be so easily split apart by a single sword.
Wu Xun's face darkened further. Gritting his teeth, he asked, “It seems... Chen Yin, you are determined to persist in your folly?”
“Could it be that the demonic girl’s seductive arts have so thoroughly ensnared your heart?”
Chen Yin blinked at his words, then turned to Xiang’er with a serious expression.
“Listen to that. Even they think it’s because of your charms that I’m so dedicated.”
“When we get back, Xiang’er, shouldn’t you reward your senior brother properly?”
Yu Xiang was caught between tears and laughter. Wiping the corners of her eyes, she rolled her eyes at him.
“Annoying senior brother.”
“If you say things like that, they really will see me as a demonic girl who bewitches people.”
Chen Yin burst into hearty laughter. “Well, who told our Xiang’er to be so beautiful?”
“Calling it bewitching isn’t entirely wrong.”
Watching the two of them joking so casually, Wu Xun’s expression grew even darker.
After their light banter, Chen Yin asked gently, “Feeling better?”
“Mm.”
Xiang’er rubbed her reddened eyes and smiled brightly.
“With senior brother here, why should I care about others’ words and stares?”
“Exactly,” Chen Yin said slowly.
“In fact, you should know. Among the disciples behind them, those who are clear-headed and discerning have already picked out the countless flaws in their arguments.”
“But they still join the crowd in condemning and cursing us.”
“Why? Because to them, who is right and who is wrong doesn’t matter at all.”
“Even if the Misty Spirit Sect did cruelly slaughter everyone in Changli Palace, they wouldn’t care. After all, it wasn’t their families that were killed.”
“But if the Misty Spirit Sect falls, and its reputation crumbles, everything they have now will disappear.”
He spoke in an even tone.
“So, they don’t care about the truth. They don’t care about justice.”
“All they want is to make us the rats everyone despises and hunts.”
Yu Xiang listened intently, then slowly nodded.
“I understand.”
Chen Yin patted her shoulder approvingly, then turned back to Wu Xun.
“I’ve waited long enough. Where are your secret division experts?”
“Surely the dirty work at Changli Palace was carried out by you elders and the secret division experts together?”
“I wonder how many of those experts are left. Call them all out.”
“Otherwise,” he said as he unsheathed Changming, speaking seriously, “I’ll find them myself.”
Wu Xun stared at him coldly, seemingly calculating something in his heart.
At that moment, Chang Wen, standing nearby, transmitted a message to him.
“Sect Leader, what should we do?”
“It seems there’s no chance for the reconciliation you mentioned.”
“If the other side is determined to fight to the death, then we cannot sit and wait for our demise.”
After finishing his transmission, Wu Xun sneered.
“Young friend, it seems you’ve been so thoroughly bewitched that you’ve lost all reason. To the point where you would commit random killings with no evidence or justification.”
“In that case, we have no choice but to step in and cleanse the sect on behalf of Immortal Yu Ling!”
Hearing this, Chen Yin sighed, looking utterly bored.
“I thought you’d come up with something new.”
“But in the end, you won’t be satisfied unless we fight, huh?”
He slowly raised his sword, looking helpless.
“Well then, I’ll go find them myself—”
Just then, an unexpected voice, playful and light, rang out.
“No evidence means you can’t kill people?”
“So, if there’s evidence, will you obediently admit your guilt?”
These words drew everyone’s attention, even Chen Yin, who turned his head in surprise.
Outside the gate, a woman dressed in striking, fiery red robes gracefully descended. Behind her was a stately, elegant lady in a palace gown.
Seeing who it was, Wu Xun’s brows furrowed tightly.
Chen Yin, on the other hand, sighed and held his forehead.
“Why are you here…”
“If I didn’t come, were you planning to let them slander you as they pleased?”
The woman in the red dress, Luo Qiaoqiao, twirled lightly, her skirt billowing like fire. She landed beside Chen Yin, smiling sweetly like a little girl.
“I can’t stand to see anyone badmouth my man.”
With her hands behind her back, she smiled coyly, dimples appearing on her cheeks.
Chen Yin couldn’t help but laugh.
“—Sister Qiaoqiao, no need to be so direct, right? There’s nothing secret between us, so how did I become your man?”
“Why isn’t there? Just because someone is a cowardly pervert, afraid to take responsibility! I won’t say who, though.”
She turned her head away haughtily.
Helpless, Chen Yin greeted the lady behind her with a bow.
“Master Mu.”
Mu Susu smiled faintly.
“No need for formality. Just call me Aunt Mu.”
Hearing this, Chen Yin caught the hidden meaning in her words and laughed awkwardly.
“Well… Aunt Mu, you’re here to enjoy the spectacle?”
“Of course. It’s not every day you see Misty Spirit Sect so embarrassed. Missing this would be a waste.”
Mu Susu spoke nonchalantly, then added, “But that’s only part of it.”
“The other reason is that I couldn’t say no to Qiaoqiao pestering me to come help her little sweetheart.”
Turning, Chen Yin saw Luo Qiaoqiao grinning at him, as if waiting for praise.
Breaking into a cold sweat, Chen Yin snuck a glance at Xiang’er beside him, only to see her looking at him with a mixture of grievance and disdain.
Finally, Wu Xun, who had been silent for some time, spoke.
“Deputy Sect Leader Mu.”
“Since when has the Tianluo Sect extended its reach far enough to meddle in the internal affairs of the Misty Spirit Sect?”
His tone carried an imposing, unyielding authority.
Mu Susu showed no interest at all and instead chuckled lightly, saying, "Who cares enough to meddle in your Mist Spirit Sect’s affairs?"
"I’m here just to remind you of something."
"Don’t take everyone in the world for fools."
"Those excuses of yours might fool the ignorant juniors, but do you think they’d deceive us seasoned veterans?"
Wu Xun’s face turned dark as water. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"Don’t know?"
Mu Susu raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Then why don’t you explain?"
"The Heavenly Dao Fragment that Changli Palace obtained from the secret realm back then... where did it go?"
With these words, a long silence fell over the scene.
Wu Xun and several elders exchanged uncertain glances for a while before he finally said slowly, "I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"The Heavenly Dao Fragment? Our Mist Spirit Sect has never obtained it."
"Deputy Sect Leader Mu, think carefully. If you truly want to involve the Tianluo Sect, it would mean war between our two sects."
Mu Susu sneered disdainfully, while Luo Qiaoqiao made a face and arrogantly declared, "Blah, blah, blah! Who’s afraid of you, old geezer?"
"When it comes to fighting, we disciples of Tianluo Sect have never been scared of anyone!"
Chen Yin thought for a moment, then turned to Mu Susu with a respectful bow. "Auntie, I appreciate your good intentions."
"But this is a small matter I can handle myself. There’s no need to drag the Tianluo Sect into this."
Mu Susu nodded approvingly at him. "You’re thoughtful and responsible. But don’t worry."
"I’m here because someone notified me."
Chen Yin froze for a moment, then instinctively turned his head.
Sure enough, a cocky and childish voice echoed from the air:
"Ha! Wu Xun, you old dog! So you can call for backup, huh?"
"Didn’t expect it, did you? This time, I called someone too!"
At the sound of this voice, Yu Xiang immediately cried out excitedly, "Master!"
From the sky descended a small figure wrapped in oversized robes, alongside a woman in a flowing blue dress with a face as radiant as a celestial maiden. The two landed gently beside Chen Yin.
Chen Yin frowned and scolded, "What are you doing here?"
"Your injuries can’t have healed so quickly!"
"Eh," Yu Ling waved a hand carelessly, "I just gritted my teeth and used a few rare pills I’ve been hoarding for years. Now, I’ve got enough strength to protect myself."
"I couldn’t just sit on the sidelines while you showed off. That’d drive me crazy."
She clenched her child-sized fists and said angrily, "No matter what, I’ve got to land a couple of punches on these old dogs myself, and maybe spit on their corpses!"
Chen Yin: "..."
—What else could he say? This was just so typical of her.
He turned to look helplessly at Shen Shuanglian. "Didn’t we agree you wouldn’t come?"
Shen Shuanglian looked a little embarrassed, like a guilty wife, and mumbled in a soft voice, "It... It was Senior Yu Ling who insisted on bringing me along..."
"What’s wrong with bringing her along?" Yu Ling grumbled. "Since we’re tearing off the pretense, might as well let everyone see these old dogs for what they really are."
"Little Shuangshuang, why not just quit that brain-dead sect and join me instead? Our Yushan Mountain has big, comfy beds~"
Shen Shuanglian lowered her head without saying a word, occasionally sneaking a glance at Chen Yin.
What else could Chen Yin say?
"Since you’re here, let’s just listen together." He gently helped her straighten her hair.
“Mm.”
Shen Shuanglian responded softly, her lips curling into a sweet smile.
At the sight of Immortal Yu Ling, Wu Xun and his companions finally showed expressions they could no longer suppress. After much internal struggle, Wu Xun eventually suppressed his voice and said:
"Immortal Yu Ling, as a guest elder of our sect, do you really lack propriety and fail to discern right from wrong?"
Yu Ling stared at his face for a long moment before enunciating each word clearly:
"Who the hell do you think you are?"
"You ambushed me yesterday and now pretending nothing happened? Do you even have any shame?"
Wu Xun forced himself to swallow his anger, saying through gritted teeth, "About yesterday, I think there’s been a misunderstanding. I’m willing to personally visit and apologize, explaining everything."
"But your disciple is clearly a demonic remnant of Changli Palace. Are you really going to defy the world and insist on protecting her?"
"Tch."
Yu Ling sneered disdainfully, her face full of scorn. "Your skill in twisting facts is better than your cultivation, huh?"
"Do you seriously think setting a fire to destroy all evidence of Changli Palace’s existence that night means no one knows what you did?"
"You are simply underestimating me."
Yu Ling’s gaze grew cold.
The next moment, another clear voice rang out: "Evidence regarding the Changli Palace incident? I’ve got it right here."
This time, Wu Xun and his companions were completely dumbfounded, and even Chen Yin froze for a moment.
The newcomer was a handsome gentleman, elegantly dressed in brocade robes, twirling a fan in his hand.
—It was the pavilion master of the Wanxiang Pavilion, Wan Yunhai.
