Chapter 98: Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Chapter 98: Actions Speak Louder Than Words

“Come on, thank your husband.”

Shen Shuanglian stared at Chen Yin, then shook her head with a silent laugh.

“I should have known.”

“Only you could come up with such a ridiculous solution.”

“What? You’re not happy?” Chen Yin dragged the sack over to her and plopped down on the table without a care. “I was worried you were missing me too much, so I brought you a present.”

“If you don’t like it, I’ll take it back.”

“No.”

She smiled faintly, a blush creeping onto her cheeks.

“…I like anything you give me.”

Xiu Wei, standing beside them, was dumbfounded. Her ice-cold Senior Sister was actually showing such an expression in front of a man.

“Xiu Wei, take this person to the Law Enforcement Hall.”

Shen Shuanglian said casually. Xiu Wei immediately obeyed, grabbing the bulky sack and leaving the hall.

Once they were alone, Shen Shuanglian lowered her gaze.

“You… know everything?”

“Know what?”

“About the Misty Spirit Sect’s current predicament.”

“Meh, I just happened to hear some rumors.”

“I’m sorry.” Her voice was soft and timid. “Am I… useless?”

“I boasted about shouldering the burden of the Misty Spirit Sect, but I’m struggling so much…”

Chen Yin smiled and gently ruffled her hair.

“Don’t say that.” He said softly. “If it weren’t for you, the Misty Spirit Sect would have already crumbled.”

“You’re already so capable, Senior Sister. There’s no need to belittle yourself.”

He changed the subject and said with a wave of his hand, “Besides, you don’t have to put so much pressure on yourself.”

“If you need anything, just ask. I can go find Ju Canghai and beat him up for you.”

Shen Shuanglian shook her head. “No, I want to handle this myself.”

“Your gift is enough.”

“Then let’s see what you can do.” Chen Yin said with a grin.

He had faith in Shen Shuanglian.

From the beginning, he had a simpler solution in mind. He could just storm into the Canghe Sword Sect and beat them up until they were too scared to leave their mountain, let alone attack the Misty Spirit Sect.

But this time, he knew that Shen Shuanglian didn’t want him to interfere too much.

This was her burden to bear. She wanted to solve it on her own.

Chen Yin respected her decision. However, if the power disparity between the two sides was too great, Shen Shuanglian would be fighting a losing battle.

So he chose not to interfere directly but to level the playing field.

He believed that with Shen Shuanglian’s abilities, these bargaining chips would be enough for her to stabilize the Misty Spirit Sect’s position.

“Then I’ll just sit back and watch your performance.”

Chen Yin jumped off the table. “If you need anything, just ask.”

Shen Shuanglian blinked, her voice suddenly soft:

“Then… can you praise me?”

Chen Yin turned to look at her.

A faint blush, alluring and tempting, colored Shen Shuanglian’s usually pale and flawless cheeks. She avoided his gaze, her eyes darting around, but she couldn’t help but steal glances at him.

Chen Yin thought for a moment. “How do you want me to praise you?”

“Anything will do.”

“Well, Senior Sister, your breasts seem to have gotten bigger.”

Shen Shuanglian’s face instantly turned crimson.

“Th-that’s not how you praise someone…”

“Didn’t you say I could praise you however I wanted?”

“But—”

“Just teasing you.” Chen Yin said with a smile. “I have a gift for you.”

He took out a box from behind him. Inside were two pieces of clothing that are not safe to be shown to children.

Shen Shuanglian glanced at them, then quickly turned her head away.

“Are you sure this is a gift for me, not for yourself?”

“What’s yours is mine.” He chuckled and pinched her earlobe. “Why be so formal?”

She lowered her head, flustered. “I-I’ve never worn anything like this…”

“There’s a first time for everything.”

“Wait… This is the main hall. Come with me to my residence—”

“It’s more exciting here.” He kissed her lips.

Shen Shuanglian silk dress danced in the air for a long time before finally settling onto the floor.

Chen Yin extinguished the candles in the hall, and with a flick of his wrist, Changming grew from a miniature size, its tip gently inserted into the gap of the main hall’s door.

Outside, Xiu Wei, who had been eavesdropping at the door, jumped back in fright as the sword tip suddenly appeared. She pouted.

“Geez… why can’t you let people watch when you’re doing something naughty?”

. . . . . .

Inside the Xiaoxiang Medical Hall, Nan Xiaoxiang finished seeing her patients and was about to return to her room to rest.

As she passed by the flowerbed, she noticed a fox-eared girl sitting there, her head tilted up, gazing at the moon.

“What are you thinking about?”

Luo Luo turned her head and called out cheerfully, “Sister Nan!”

Nan Xiaoxiang gracefully sat down beside her.

“Luo Luo… misses Young Master.”

“Young Master Chen? He’s only been gone for three days.”

“But Young Master is always like this.” Luo Luo lowered her head, her feet dangling in the air. “He never tells Luo Luo what he’s doing.”

“Before, he would always take Luo Luo with him wherever he went.”

She looked up at Nan Xiaoxiang with her clear, innocent eyes. “Sister Nan, do you think Young Master hates Luo Luo now?”

“Does he… think Luo Luo is useless and doesn’t want her anymore?”

Her voice was filled with sadness and insecurity. Nan Xiaoxiang blinked, then asked softly:

“I’m curious. What kind of person is Young Master Chen in your eyes?”

Luo Luo’s eyes lit up at the mention of Chen Yin.

“Young Master is the best!”

She gushed, “He plays with Luo Luo, buys Luo Luo delicious food, holds Luo Luo, and tells Luo Luo stories.”

“Besides Luo Luo mother, Young Master’s the first person who’s ever been so good to Luo Luo.”

Nan Xiaoxiang listened silently.

The Chen Yin in Luo Luo’s description was completely different from the one she knew.

The Chen Yin she knew was a rude, arrogant, lecherous, and shameless scoundrel.

She couldn’t understand why this little fox girl was so attached to him.

“Anyway, Young Master is very gentle and kind to Luo Luo.”

But then her eyes dimmed again. “But… Young Master doesn’t take Luo Luo with him anymore. Does he think Luo Luo is still too weak and doesn’t want her?”

“Sister Nan, do you think… if Luo Luo eats less and practices more, Young Master won’t abandon her?”

She looked at Nan Xiaoxiang with pleading eyes, her innocence shining through.

Nan Xiaoxiang smiled gently. “Silly girl. Your Young Master doesn’t take you with him because he doesn’t want you to be hurt in whatever thing he’s doing.”

“I think it’s not that he doesn’t want you anymore. He probably likes you even more and wants to protect you.”

“Really?” A smile returned to Luo Luo’s youthful face. “Young Master doesn’t hate Luo Luo?”

“That’s great.”

She let out a sigh of relief, her long eyelashes fluttering, her cheeks flushed with happiness.

Nan Xiaoxiang lowered her head for a moment, then said softly:

“Words are often deceptive. A girl’s blush speaks volumes more than any love confession.”

“I hope you’ll always be this happy.”

Luo Luo looked at her with a confused expression, but Nan Xiaoxiang had already stood up and left.

Her gaze drifted towards the distance, lost in thought.

. . . . .

As dusk settled, candlelight flickered back to life in the main hall of the Misty Spirit Sect.

“What do you want to eat tonight? I’ll make it for you.”

“…The Misty Spirit Sect has cooks.”

“I don’t believe they can cook better than me.”

“Then… fish soup.”

Chen Yin agreed and was about to get up, still dressed in his thin clothes,

A slender hand grabbed his wrist.

“How am I supposed to go out like this?” Shen Shuanglian’s voice was filled with embarrassment.

She was only wearing Chen Yin’s large robe, which barely covered her body. Her own clothes had been torn to shreds by him.

However, the robe couldn’t completely conceal her. Under the candlelight, her alluring shoulders and delicate collarbone were exposed, her long, black hair cascading down her back, the blush on her cheeks reaching her ears.

Chen Yin looked at the dress he had torn apart and scratched his head awkwardly.

“Uh, sorry about that.”

“…No need to apologize.”

Shen Shuanglian blushed and lowered her head. “Next time… be a little gentler.”

“Ahem— Should I find you some new clothes?”

“I hope you have something decent.” Shen Shuanglian said seriously.

Chen Yin blushed.

Indeed, black silk and lingerie weren’t exactly appropriate attire for public appearances.

After searching for a while, he finally found a decent-looking traditional dress in the System Shop. But when Shen Shuanglian put it on, she let out a soft gasp.

“Mmm…”

“What’s wrong?”

“It’s… too small…” she whispered, her face red.

Chen Yin looked down and saw her breasts straining against the tight fabric. He sighed.

“I told you they had gotten bigger, but you didn’t believe me.”

Shen Shuanglian glared at him playfully.

“It’s… all your fault for always kneading them…”

“That’s a good thing. Shouldn’t you be thanking me, Senior Sister?”

Unable to out-shameless him, Shen Shuanglian could only turn her head away, avoiding his gaze.

Chen Yin chuckled and gently lifted her into his arms. “Go back to your room and rest for a while. I’ll bring you the fish soup when it’s ready.”

“…I can walk.”

“Are you sure you want to limp around and let everyone know what happened?”

“…”

She remained silent, her arms wrapped around his neck, her head buried in his chest.

“Then let’s not let anyone see.” Her voice was soft and sweet, like a kitten’s purr.

“Alright.”

Chen Yin agreed with a smile.

With a flash of sword light, their figures disappeared from the Misty Spirit Sect, vanishing in the blink of an eye.

No one saw what had happened.
