Chapter 180: The Grand Scene
Mr. Yunfeng stared at the sight before him, his eyes wide with disbelief. He pointed at the Scorpion robots above and stammered, “Mr. Vimers, this… this is?”
“This is a war machine specially developed by our corporation. Built using specific materials and technologies, it can evade the vast majority of detection methods. The only regret is time—we didn’t have enough of it to prepare the proper alloy materials. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be this fragile.”
A faint smile tugged at Roland’s lips as he interlaced his fingers, speaking with the calm confidence of someone holding absolute control.
Fragile…
Mr. Yunfeng couldn’t help the twitch at the corner of his mouth. Based on what he had seen so far, aside from large-caliber armor-piercing weapons, there seemed to be nothing capable of breaking through its defenses.
“Are you planning to sell this robot?”
He finally asked what was on his mind.
“Of course. This is our first model. We’ll definitely put it on the market later—but not to corporations.”
Roland nodded, then gave Mr. Yunfeng a smile laden with implication.
He wanted to test the relationship between governments and major corporations across different countries. A war machine of this level… if there truly was any gap between governments and corporations, he was certain the former wouldn’t miss such an opportunity.
Of course, he wasn’t overly optimistic. From what he knew, most major powers were essentially controlled by corporations. Mm… there was only one exception still awaiting confirmation…
As the thought crossed his mind, Roland’s smile toward Mr. Yunfeng grew even brighter, making the latter feel inexplicably uneasy.
...
Green rushed to the missile vehicle array and finally let out a breath of relief when he found nothing amiss. If something had gone wrong here, he would have been truly finished.
That relief didn’t last long. A damage report from the front lines soon arrived—just those few dozen unknown war robots had already inflicted losses approaching one-fifth of their forces.
Some of it was due to being caught off guard, but the technology the enemy had demonstrated was more than enough to explain the situation.
Green had full confidence in the discipline of his troops, and reality proved him right. After the initial panic, the New United States forces reacted quickly, forming combat formations and launching a counterattack.
They destroyed many of the Scorpion robots, leaving over a dozen disabled units behind. Their wreckage was still scattered within the formation.
“Activate all reconnaissance systems. Radar units are to enter electronic silence immediately. Maintain scanning at a fixed frame rate.”
Green gave the order grimly, while also dispatching several units forward as vanguards to conduct reconnaissance.
Implementing radar electronic silence was meant to prevent PROJECT from exploiting any radar-targeting technology. They couldn’t afford to become “blind” at such a critical moment.
However, just as the New United States forces were executing their orders in an orderly fashion, the backs of the less severely damaged Scorpion robots slowly split open.
Pairs of crimson eyes lit up from within.
Whoosh—
In an instant, more than a dozen black shadows flashed out. Longhorn Beetle-type combat robots, designed specifically to breach heavily armored units.
“Enemy attack!!”
The New United States soldiers who noticed the anomaly immediately shouted into the comms. But several Longhorn Beetle-type robots opened their jaws, emitting eerie sounds that directly jammed all nearby signals.
Before anyone could even fire a warning shot, the robots had already charged in, each strike cleanly severing a head.
Beep!
Only then did the alert come through, as a large swath of red lit up across their life-monitoring displays.
“Quick! Deploy the single-soldier combat teams!”
Green immediately realized this wasn’t a large-scale force. He issued rapid orders while instructing his men to stay on high alert.
Fortunately, the disturbance was limited in scope and wouldn’t affect the outer defenses for now. Even so, it slowed their overall progress, making Green even more wary.
“Sir, a large force is approaching!”
Finally!
Green snapped to attention. He quickly grabbed the frontline deployment map and began arranging his troops, while simultaneously pulling up a panoramic view of the PROJECT forces.
When the image appeared, everyone froze. One side’s representative was Mr. Yunfeng of Kang Tao.
An iron-gray tide of steel advanced across the yellow desert. Wind and sand battered their cast-metal bodies, producing sharp, metallic clatter. Every machine bore the inverted triangle emblem of PROJECT.
Yet among all of them, one presence stood out above the rest.
A colossal body nearly fifteen meters tall, its massive frame resembling an elephant.
PROJECT’s giant war construct: Mammoth.
After the capture of Elor City, its components had been transported from Agas City and assembled there.
Green’s lips twitched uncontrollably before he finally roared hoarsely, “All units—attack!”
With the order given, countless bullets poured forth, turning into streams of fire that surged toward the PROJECT forces. The missile array vehicles didn’t hesitate either—once Mammoth was locked on, they immediately launched medium-range missiles.
But the storm of bullets was completely blocked as the [Iron Shield III-type robots] surged forward, raising alloy shields reinforced with Energy Shields.
The strategic-grade weapons screaming through the air were intercepted one after another by the anti-aircraft cannons mounted on Mammoth’s back.
At the same time, the Nightmare Tank’s electromagnetic railgun was silently charging.
As an orange-red light flared across the battlefield once more, the ground was carved open by another massive gash.
Boom!
Green slammed his fist into the command console and roared, “Form an armored unit with EMPs and punch straight through! At the same time, assemble another unit to escort the suicide squad on their mission!”
“Yes, sir!”
Amid thunderous engine roars, two units shot out from the New United States formation at high speed, immediately drawing the attention of Chris, who was directing operations on the other side.
“PROJECT squad, move out. Intercept the unit on the right flank.”
Chris issued the order to the suicide squad equipped with Energy Dissipation Devices. His own cyberware was nothing to scoff at—half of his head had already been replaced with machinery, housing cybernetic eyes capable of powerful reconnaissance and real-time analysis.
This allowed him to rapidly lock onto threats across the battlefield.
Kiwi acknowledged the order with a nod and charged out with Pyke and the others. A streak of vivid purple light cut sharply across the battlefield.
The suicide squad’s overall commander, Mibul, noticed them immediately.
“Squad Three, intercept them!”
“Roger!”
A small armored unit quickly split off and raced straight toward Kiwi’s group.
