Chapter 205: A New Scheme
Roland quietly watched Wilson’s movements. To be honest, he didn’t really trust this man, nor did he have any clarity about what Wilson was truly planning.
So… he had already prepared himself to abandon this body if necessary.
That said, he still felt a twinge of regret. “Angus” wasn’t the name of its creator.
It was the name of the one who was created.
This Imperial Guard Robot Type II had been modified based on the original Imperial Guard Robot technology. There were only ten Type II units in existence.
They had been rebuilt from failed prototypes produced during Mudor’s PROJECT modifications. Every single one of them was formidable. Losing one here would still sting—Roland couldn’t deny that.
Hopefully, this guy valued his own life.
Wilson still had some use, after all. As long as he didn’t do anything stupid, keeping him alive for now wasn’t a problem.
And reality proved that Wilson was indeed someone who cherished his life.
After opening the mechanical lock using the method Wilson had provided, Roland raised an eyebrow at the two “little cuties” inside.
“Looks like you made the right choice.”
Wilson immediately plastered a fawning smile on his face.
Roland didn’t say anything else. He waved a hand, signaling the robots behind him to take the two small items away. Then he knocked Wilson unconscious and injected him with a dose of healing medication.
Sometimes, he did keep his promises.
As for when that applied… that was entirely up to him.
...
“Huff… don’t get angry. Getting angry won’t change anything… don’t get angry, don’t get angry…”
Jamde braced both hands against the wall, pressing his forehead to it as he muttered to himself. Before long, his emotions settled, and he returned to his usual calm demeanor.
After taking another deep breath, he finally spoke.
“Have you figured out who did this?”
“Yes. Based on the current recorder data, it appears that a Militech operation against an edgerunner team failed, after which their personnel were eliminated by PROJECT Corporation’s armed forces.”
“Those bastards again!”
Jamde’s face instantly flushed red. The composure he had just regained shattered in an instant. And it wasn’t hard to understand why—he had suffered far too many setbacks at PROJECT’s hands lately.
He had even been forced to give up a significant amount of benefits, leaving him feeling as miserable as if he’d swallowed filth.
When he thought about the two small nuclear bombs now in PROJECT Corporation’s possession, Jamde’s expression turned dark and unstable. He seriously doubted that Roland, the head of PROJECT Corporation, would ever return those things.
The real question was where they planned to return them… and how.
...
“Pull out a small unit. Disguise them as an Arasaka squad. Have them carry these two little treasures and head to the Militech building for a mission.”
The moment the two mini-nukes were secured, Roland had already formed a plan and immediately issued the order.
Hearing this, Kelly broke into a smile and promptly mobilized a PROJECT unit to begin preparations.
As for the consequences of blowing up the Militech building… Roland felt there was nothing to worry about. PROJECT Corporation would simply take responsibility for rebuilding that area.
As a citizen of Night City, how could he possibly turn a blind eye to something like this? People like them should step up at moments like these. (serious face)
More importantly, Roland didn’t even need to worry about the aftermath. Militech had a record, after all. If push came to shove, they could just dump the blame back on Militech—accusing them of bringing mini-nukes into Night City with malicious intent.
As for how it exploded?
Obviously, they failed to store them properly. (deadpan face)
After making his decision, Roland temporarily shifted his attention away from Night City. He could plan around the city’s key figures later.
As for infrastructure… that could wait until after the explosion.
Right now, the more pressing issue was the situation in Nevada.
After the New United States launched its general offensive, the Free States Alliance had been steadily retreating. Following the fall of Montana, Colorado had also begun to waver.
This made the Free States Alliance—who had always treated Wyoming as their primary battlefield—even less willing to send aid to Colorado.
And thus, a vicious cycle formed.
You won’t help me, so I give up. You give up, so I won’t help you.
As a result, resistance against the New United States in Colorado was steadily weakening. Aside from a few factions with deep-seated hatred toward the New United States who were still fighting desperately, most others had begun to adopt an ambiguous stance.
Before long, the New United States would likely reclaim yet another state.
Naturally, Roland had no intention of falling behind.
He was already planning to swallow up the entirety of Nevada as soon as possible.
Strictly speaking, it should be called the Republic of Nevada.
But fully taking it over would require paying a certain price.
A smile crept onto Roland’s face as the thought crossed his mind. At this very moment, Lissandra was masquerading as his projection, negotiating with Nevada’s officials.
They were filled with resentment over the fact that Roland had taken so many of their cities. Yet they never expected him to allow their military to re-enter those cities.
That caught them completely off guard.
Of course, in exchange, they were required to allow PROJECT Corporation’s security robots and related industries to be stationed in every city across Nevada.
Surprisingly, internal resistance within Nevada wasn’t particularly strong. They had long monopolized their own markets—so what if PROJECT entered as well? Could that really stir up any major waves?
Unfortunately for them, they had miscalculated.
Before long, they would realize that the cities they once owned had quietly changed hands—and names.
