Chapter 224: Special Training (X)
After restraining Mibs, V swept her gaze over the people present.
“You’re still not leaving? Or are you planning to wait for the corporation’s follow-up personnel to arrive and treat you all to a meal?”
The gang members exchanged looks, then wisely began retreating to the sides.
Watching everything unfold from the shadows, Biru naturally pretended he hadn’t seen a thing. Whether Mibs had offended PROJECT or failed to carry out a task PROJECT assigned him had nothing to do with Biru.
He knew nothing at all.
However, unlike these low-level gangsters, the Gene Power resistance had also noticed the disturbance and immediately reported it upward.
“PROJECT Corporation’s people actually tracked things all the way here…”
Ashe frowned when she heard the report.
“We can’t stay here anymore. We need to relocate.”
“Relocate?! How many times has this been already? We’re a resistance force, not rats hiding in gutters!”
Sejuani sprang to her feet and strode toward Ashe in a rage.
“Hey, hey, calm down,” Ekko said, already feeling a headache coming on.
“I just detected an abnormal signal—the person we rescued earlier is heading toward PROJECT Corporation.”
“Hah. I said it from the start—not just anyone can be brought into the resistance,”
Sejuani sneered coldly.
Ashe ignored her.
“Can you take care of him?”
“Small problem,”
Ekko nodded.
“Good. Deal with it quickly, then we’ll begin the relocation.”
...
Elsewhere, V had already returned to PROJECT Corporation. Using the corporation’s equipment, she reviewed the contents of the chip. It contained a detailed record of Gene Power’s approximate location, as well as a comprehensive map of the slum district.
“This is really… quite the surprise,”
V muttered after finishing her review.
Without hesitation, she uploaded all the data directly into PROJECT Corporation’s central intelligence.
“Review complete. Ms. Valerie’s identity has been verified with no issues. Disciplinary action will be taken against the malicious reporter.”
The female employee sharing the office with V instantly went pale, her expression turning extremely unpleasant.
At the same time, Ambir had crossed the slums and reached the border of the inner city.
“Please present your ID badge.”
“I have the exact location of Gene Power to report! Let me through!!”
The two guards froze for a moment when they heard this, then immediately reported it. The central intelligence took notice at once and, in an instant, stripped apart the identity assigned to Ambir in this world, exposing everything.
“The intelligence requires verification. Please transmit your memories.”
Following the instruction, a guard stepped forward and handed Ambir a device.
Just as Ambir finished connecting it and was about to activate it, a massive stream of green data surged straight into his mind.
Whoosh—
“Hm?”
Ambir looked around in confusion, finding himself surrounded by other participants who had already awakened.
“I… what is this…?”
“You’ve been eliminated.”
The instructor who had witnessed everything rubbed his forehead helplessly. The fact that this guy had managed to survive until now was simply… unbelievable…
...
“Ah, looks like their selection process has reached the final stage.”
Roland stopped what he was doing, put away his weapon, and turned to Lucy.
“Huh? That fast? It doesn’t feel like much time has passed,”
Lucy said, catching her breath as she sheathed her dagger and looked at Roland in surprise.
“I sped things up a bit,”
Roland nodded.
“You’ve more or less gotten used to things here.”
“A few more real fights and you’ll understand the rest. Oh, right—why don’t you just stay by my side as my bodyguard?”
“Huh? But I can’t beat you,”
Lucy said blankly, scratching her head.
“That’s fine. That’s exactly the effect I want.”
“…Sure.”
At the same time, the interrogation report on Mibs came in. When V learned that he was also a participant from the same batch, her expression turned noticeably strange, her gaze gradually shifting.
After all, after going through interrogation of that level and having information extracted, he would almost certainly end up holding a grudge against her.
“Looks like I’ll have to find a chance to deal with him later…”
After taking a careful look at Mibs’s face, V disposed of him.
“Damn—!”
Whoosh—
After dying, Mibs suddenly jolted upright, drenched in cold sweat, his face filled with terror as he clearly hadn’t recovered yet.
The instructor silently walked over, patted him on the shoulder, and said nothing.
It took Mibs a long time to finally regain his senses. When he saw that his ranking was eleventh, his face twisted completely.
“V!!!”
...
“So now… there shouldn’t be anything left for me to do, right?”
V sat in her office, rubbing her chin as she quietly thought to herself, preparing to simply wait for the mission to end.
To be honest, she didn’t feel much pressure at all—probably because she had too many resources at her disposal.
“Ms. Valerie, please accompany the PROJECT action team to the front-line battlefield to participate in command operations.”
“Huh?”
V’s previously calm expression froze instantly.
Meanwhile, Roland and Lucy had already exited the Braindance world.
Seeing the familiar yet unfamiliar ceiling above her, Lucy felt momentarily disoriented.
“Take a moment,”
Roland said as he sat beside her and handed her a tube of nutrient solution.
“It’s normal to feel like this right after waking up from there—reality and illusion tend to blur.”
Lucy nodded as she accepted it. Roland waved his hand, projecting V’s situation onto a screen.
“Perfect timing. Keep an eye on things here for me. I need to make some arrangements. Once the results are out, just let me know.”
“Okay.”
Lucy nodded slightly and began observing V on the screen, curious about what exactly made her so noteworthy in Roland’s eyes.
Meanwhile, within that virtual world, the memory constructs of Lin and Ambition appeared.
Wind, who was about to face them, had no idea what he was about to encounter.
“Mudor, I heard you wanted to speak with me?”
After leaving, Roland immediately contacted Mudor, remembering that he had mentioned having something to discuss.
“Yes, boss,” Mudor replied.
“It’s about the underground base.”
