V2: Chapter 47: The Tentacle Girl's Secret Satisfaction
Huh? Was Sister Liang Lin just yelling at that damned woman?
Hearing Liang Lin's cold tone, Natalie was also taken aback.
Wait, why was her tone suddenly so cold and harsh?
Liang Di, in a moment of joy, tried to grab Liang Lin's hand again, but Liang Lin shook her off once more. Liang Di slumped down again, reverting to her pitiful stray dog form.
"I just think, Miss Natalie, you're not really suited to come to a place like this with us," Liang Lin explained politely. "As you can see, the environment here is dirty and chaotic, so..."
Liang Lin looked Natalie up and down, frowning. "You're not suited to come to a place like this."
Liang Lin just didn't like these spoiled young ladies. They were always so easily startled. Going out with them, they'd always suddenly yell a couple of times, even when there was no real danger, always startling Liang Lin, making her look around warily.
In short, they were incredibly annoying.
Natalie saw disdain in Liang Lin's eyes. Her heart clenched painfully; it seemed she was being disliked by the person she liked.
But Natalie didn't know what she had done wrong. She racked her brains, trying to recall everything, but she still couldn't figure out what she had done to anger Liang Lin, to make Liang Lin dislike her.
Natalie was spoiled and always spoke her mind.
"Miss Liang Lin, may I ask, what did I do to make you dislike me?"
Liang Lin and Liang Di were both taken aback, probably not expecting her to be so direct and ask such a question. Before they could speak, Natalie continued.
"Miss Liang Di, what about you? Did I do something to make you dislike me? I can sense your strong hostility towards me."
"Uh..."
All four adults were stunned.
The atmosphere became somewhat awkward.
Perhaps she had never experienced such humiliation of being disliked before, her eyes suddenly welled up with tears. However, no tears fell; she wasn't prone to incontinence, which was a good thing.
"Uh..."
The four of them looked at each other, unsure how to explain.
In this situation, it was naturally Liang Di who stepped in to break the silence.
She put on a gentle smile, concealing all hostility in her eyes, and took a step forward. "Miss Natalie, I think you've misunderstood us. None of us have any hostility towards you. Think about it, you haven't done anything wrong, so why would we hate you?"
Liang Lin sighed, shook her head, and gently pushed Liang Di away.
"I just don't like interacting with the young ladies, that's all."
"So, you prefer interacting with the young masters?"
Upon hearing Natalie's words, Liang Lin frowned. She felt there was an underlying meaning in the other woman's words, and the tone made her very uncomfortable.
The implication was that she was trying to curry favor with those aristocratic young masters, that she preferred men, that she was a woman who fawned over men, and that she would belittle her own fellow women for the sake of men.
Just thinking about this made Liang Lin feel nauseous. She had heard her sister, Hilary, say before that women harbored the greatest malice towards other women. She had never experienced it herself, so she had never believed it.
Now, she finally understood what it meant to say "women harbor the greatest malice towards other women."
She felt incredibly uncomfortable.
So, she retorted again.
“I don’t like spoiled young masters either,” Liang Lin said bluntly.
“Since you’re coming with us, don’t give others those disdainful looks, and don’t yell and scream. I can’t handle it. I tried to persuade you not to come, but you insisted. Now, you’re the one looking down on these people. Is that funny?”
Ahhh…
Liang Di’s puppy eyes sparkled. She opened her mouth slightly, her gaze towards Liang Lin filled with admiration.
Oh my, my Sister Liang Lin had talked down the person I hated! I loved it! So loved it! No wonder she is my Liang Lin sister! She spoke so well!
Natalie was speechless for a moment, then gave Liang Lin a strange look. She looked at Liang Lin as if it were perfectly normal, “Isn’t it normal to look down on people? This place is dirty and messy, and the commoners are of poor quality. Isn’t it reasonable for me to look down on them?”
Her attitude successfully angered Liang Lin.
"And what about that child? He just bumped into you, didn't he? I saw it, your eyes were full of disgust. Don't think I didn't see it. He wouldn't have fallen after bumping into you. It was your disgust that caused you to push him, and that's why he fell to the ground. Do you think everyone around you is blind?"
"....."
"Do you know that child? You don't know him, do you? He's just a commoner. What's the point of standing up for him? A commoner is just a commoner. You're a noblewoman."
Natalie didn't understand, and couldn't believe, that this was the reason Liang Lin disliked her.
There must be other reasons, this is only a small part.
"Miss Liang Lin, is there any other reason?"
Liang Lin was still immersed in what the other woman had just said, angry and unable to extricate herself.
These noble ladies, they always spoke of everything so matter-of-factly, always so spoiled, always so disrespectful to commoners.
At first, seeing Natalie's gentle and intellectual demeanor, Liang Lin thought she was a sensible and well-mannered young lady. However, after spending more time with her, she discovered that Natalie was no different from other noble ladies, and even more arrogant.
Just now, Natalie's words implied: "We are nobles, it's our right to look down on commoners, it's our right to insult commoners. Commoners are just ants; not crushing them is already showing them enough respect."
"That's all, Natalie," Liang Lin no longer addressed her as "Miss," but directly by her first name. "I know you can't understand my views, but please don't insult them here."
Natalie hadn't expected that Liang Lin would still be so fixated on this issue, so persistent and unwilling to let go.
So, it was just because of this insignificant reason?
Natalie still couldn't understand Liang Lin's thinking, and even found it absurd.
"Miss Liang Lin, you…"
However, seeing herself increasingly offending the person she liked, Natalie's tone softened. She wanted to back down, but Liang Lin abruptly interrupted her.
"Natalie, go back. I really have nothing more to say to you."
Liang Lin sighed. "Do you remember when I saved you? I didn't save you because you were a noble lady. I didn't even know who you were back then. Even after you told me your name, I still didn't know who you were. But I still saved you, saved all of you. Do you understand the word 'all of you'?"
A hint of confusion flashed in Natalie's eyes.
"My 'All of you' refers not only to you, not only to all nobles, but also to all commoners, all people of the Soteland Empire, no, the entire world."
Liang Lin felt she was exaggerating somewhat, but she liked to say it that way. She did have the world in her heart, so what? The words Liang Di had spoken to her earlier echoed in her mind:
"So what if it's self-righteous justice? At least you dare to act on it. Many people hide behind the scenes, only daring to talk the talk. Tell them to go for it, and they'll run away faster than the last."
Yes, even if she stood on the moral high ground criticizing these nobles, what could she do?
"Miss Natalie, I don't want us to continue this unpleasantness, nor do I want to continue arguing with you about the issue of commoners versus nobles."
Liang Lin took Hilary's hand. "We have to go. If you're afraid of these commoners, we can take you to the noble district. That's all, farewell."
"....."
Natalie finally couldn't hold back anymore, a tear rolled down her cheek. Her nose stung, and she didn't know why she had messed everything up today. She didn't understand Liang Lin, even thinking Liang Lin was foolish, that Liang Lin had an excessively saintly heart, that Liang Lin was a white lotus.
Yet, she still liked Liang Lin, which was strange.
She clearly thought the other person had flaws, yet she still liked her—wasn't that a kind of sword?
“Miss Liang Lin, I…”
Natalie opened her mouth, but ultimately couldn’t find the words. She turned away, secretly wiping away a tear from the corner of her eye.
“Well then, see you next time. I’ll visit you again. I know I said some things that upset you today. Next time, I’ll bring a gift to apologize. I don’t need you to see me off; I can walk out myself.”
“No need.”
Liang Lin’s tone was stiff. “Don’t come again. If you do, things will only get worse.”
Hearing these words, Liang Di felt incredibly satisfied! The emotions she had suppressed for several days were completely released under Liang Lin’s barrage of words. She didn’t even need to say a word or do anything; Natalie had already become a homeless, defeated dog.
Liang Di looked at Natalie’s retreating figure triumphantly, like a general who had won a great victory, hands on her hips, a smug smile on her face.
"Hmph~"
Yeah, that Natalie, what kind of status does she have? She even dared to try and steal my beloved Liang Lin! Get lost! See? She's already getting her comeuppance!
"Eek~"
Liang Lin turned her head and saw the CEO's daughter beside her with that strange smile.
Disgusted, she took a step to the side. "What are you doing? Why the lewd look on your face?"
Thinking about it carefully, this girl seemed to be laughing while staring at Natalie's back. Liang Lin's eyes widened instantly. Pointing in the direction Natalie had gone, she blurted out:
"I say, Liang Di, you wouldn't happen to have developed feelings for Natalie...?"
She didn't finish her sentence, but those who understood, understood. The other three all understood. Hilary and Octaville couldn't hold back any longer and burst out laughing simultaneously.
"Pfft~"
"Hahahahahaha~"
The two women laughed so hard they could barely hold their babies.
Liang Di was stunned.
No, why did Liang Lin feel that I might have some other kind of feeling for Natalie?
Liang Di blushed, her face flushed with anger. She was both anxious and furious, her mind blank, unable to think straight. She immediately raised her right hand, held up three fingers, and began to swear.
"Sister Liang Lin! I will only love you in this life, and in the next life too. If, if this is a lie, if I change my mind in the future! Then let me never find my true love in this life! In this life, yes! In this life, I will never learn what love is!"
The moment these words were uttered, the surrounding air seemed to freeze.
Liang Lin, who had been fair-skinned, instantly turned bright red, like a pressure cooker boiling over, her teeth chattering. She was so ashamed, so incredibly ashamed. Her older sister and sister-in-law, Octaville, who she'd grown up with, were watching right there, and then Liang Di actually said something like that – it was just too embarrassing!
Liang Lin couldn't hold back anymore.
Thump!
A fist landed on Liang Di's shoulder. She knew better than to hit someone in the face, so she deliberately avoided the face and chose the shoulder instead.
This punch was delivered with all her might; it felt like she was putting all the strength she had in her life into this one blow.
Liang Di was knocked back several steps, landing hard on her backside, almost falling flat on her face. A sharp pain shot through her shoulder, as if she'd been hit by a thousand-pound hammer.
Hmm…no wonder she's my Sister Liang Lin; she's really strong.
Even after being hit, Liang Di was still thinking about how to praise her older sister Liang Lin.
Confirmed simp (not really).
"Can you please shut up? Look at what you're doing! Look around you! Stop spouting nonsense!"
Liang Lin, enraged and embarrassed, snorted and didn't try to pull Liang Di up or help her up. Without looking at Liang Di sitting on the ground, Liang Lin turned around angrily and strode away.
The next second, Octaville's smug face appeared in front of Liang Di, holding the child in one arm and extending the other towards Liang Di.
"Oh dear~ Mom still loves you. Come on~ Liang Lin won't help you up, Mom will help you up."
Liang Di glared at Octaville; this woman was as sarcastic as ever.
She didn't reach for her hand, but instead helped herself to her feet, brushing the dust off her backside and legs.
"Oh dear, look at you, you've been knocked to the ground by your wife, hahaha!" Octaville laughed heartily. She saw a reflection of her younger self in Liang Di.
The thought of having someone to "share the joys and sorrows" with, experiencing the same torment, filled Octaville with uncontrollable joy and a desire to mock her.
"Sister Liang Lin!"
Liang Di followed her again, wagging her tail.
Behind her, Hilary shoved Octaville.
"Someone like you, who I used to knock down all the time, still has the nerve to laugh at your daughter?"
Even after being mocked by her wife, Octaville continued to laugh, just like the shameless woman before.
"Yeah, yeah, it's because I've been through it before that I want everyone to experience the thrill of being overthrown by their own wife, okay?"
"You really are..."
Hilary chuckled. "Hurry up, hurry up, or these two will have run off somewhere."
As dusk fell, campfires were lit in some places, and groups of people gathered around them, laughing, joking, and chatting.
"Hey~ You know what? I once saw Marquis Eli, who died on the battlefield! Just for a glimpse! He was such a handsome young man!"
"Marquis Eli? That name sounds familiar. I haven't heard it in ages. I don't remember him. Who is he?"
"Oh dear, you don't know? Let me tell you..."
Liang Lin heard that familiar name as she passed a few people. It was her own name from before. She couldn't help but stop.
After walking around all day, she was quite tired. She decided to sit here and listen to their stories.
"Hey, old man... no, uncle, what are you talking about? It sounds interesting. Is it about Marquis Eli? I've heard he's incredibly handsome, dashing, and incredibly brave. He's invincible on the battlefield, the bravest being in the Sotrland Empire! And the greatest swordsman in the Soteland Empire! I admire him greatly, so may I sit down and listen to you tell me about him?"
Goodness, she even praised herself!
Liang Lin is definitely a top-tier shameless person.
"Sure, young lady."
The old man who said he had met Marquis Eli gave Liang Lin a thumbs up. "Look at you, so young, I didn't expect you to have such good taste, actually admiring Marquis Eli."
"Of course."
Liang Lin sat down readily.
Behind her, Liang Di clearly heard the praise, but instead of mocking her, she chimed in, "I also greatly admire Marquis Eli, I especially adore Marquis Eli..."
Liang Di's gaze remained fixed on Liang Lin, filled with deep affection.
"Unfortunately, Marquis Eli is no longer alive. If he were, I would give him my whole heart and soul."
Upon hearing this, Liang Lin shuddered, goosebumps rising all over her body. This girl was confessing her feelings to her again, intentionally or unintentionally.
She was Liang Lin now, not Eli, and didn't know how to retort. After stammering for a while, she turned her head away unhappily, refusing to look at Liang Di.
At this moment, Hilary and Octaville also slowly followed back.
"Tired? Little sister?" Hilary saw Liang Lin sitting on the ground with Liang Di beside her. So, she pulled Octaville to sit behind Liang Lin.
Liang Lin pointed with her thumb to the men beside her. "These gentlemen are talking about Marquis Eli. I'd like to hear."
"Oh?" Hilary's tone was meaningful.
No one knows her sister better than her older sister. She knew her sister well; she was a vain person who loved being praised.
"Then... we'll listen."
