V2: Chapter 54: Caring for the Sick Tentacle Girl

Liang Lin noticed the other's flushed cheeks and reached out to touch her forehead.

"Hiss~"

The moment she touched the other's forehead, Liang Lin gasped.

It was so hot! It felt like she had a fever.

"Hiss~"

"Liang Di, you have a fever."

Liang Lin stood in the dimly lit room, her gaze fixed on Liang Di lying on the bed. Moonlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains, dappling Liang Di's pale face, adding to her haggard appearance.

"Hmm, hmm..."

Liang Di seemed delirious with fever, mumbling incoherently. Liang Lin pressed her ear close, but couldn't understand a word she was saying.

Liang Di's eyes were tightly closed, her cheeks flushed, and a damp handkerchief Liang Lin had just placed on her forehead seemed to have little effect on lowering her temperature. Her breathing was rapid, each breath accompanied by a faint moan, making Liang Lin's heart clench.

The thought that this girl was in this state because of her made her incredibly distressed.

Liang Lin busied herself fetching the medicine box and water glass. After getting everything, she gently walked to the bedside, reached out, and carefully felt Liang Di's forehead. The burning temperature made her brow furrow, her heart filled with worry. She turned and went to the medicine box, taking out fever-reducing medicine and a glass of warm water.

Returning to the bedside, Liang Lin helped Liang Di sit up, letting her lean against her chest.

She gently fed Liang Di the medicine, softly comforting her, "Don't be afraid, you'll feel better after taking the medicine."

Liang Di slightly opened her eyes, looking at Liang Lin, a hint of dependence flashing in her eyes.

Ah… how gentle Liang Lin is! If Liang Lin could always be this gentle with me, I would rather lie in a hospital bed for the rest of my life, with a fever for the rest of my life.

She'd do anything to make Liang Lin treat her well, even torture her own body.

The night gradually shed its black cloak, but Liang Lin remained by Liang Di's bedside, her gaze never leaving Liang Di's face. Her heart was filled with worry; she only hoped Liang Di would recover quickly.

If Liang Di suffered any lasting health problems because of this, Liang Lin would wake up in the middle of the night and slap herself, saying, "I deserve to die!"

Liang Di felt warm all over. Her mind was in turmoil, but uncontrollably, she thought of indescribable things.

That is, if I had a fever, my body would become hot.

Would my tentacles become incredibly hot too? If I used those incredibly hot tentacles to do strange things to Liang Lin, what would Liang Lin feel?

Ah…

Even when she's sick, her mind is still filled with those indescribable things. No wonder she's so energetic and loves doing weird things, Tentacle Girl.

“Here, Liang Di, have some water.”

Liang Lin noticed that the other person's lips seemed a little dry, so she eagerly handed over the water cup.

“Okay… Pfft! Cough cough cough! It’s so hot! Sister!”

Eh?

Liang Lin’s hands are like merciless iron; she didn’t feel how hot it was at all. When she herself took a sip, she almost got burned. She jumped around on the floor for a while, mouth agape, tongue sticking out, frantically fanning herself with her hands.

“Sister Liang Lin, are you alright? Go drink some cool water quickly.” The patient lying in bed was concerned about the person jumping around on the floor.

This isn’t caring for someone; isn’t this blatant murder?

After a night of “meticulous” care, Liang Di, who had a fever, finally showed signs of improvement. She lay quietly on the soft bed, her eyes slightly closed, her breathing becoming steady and strong. A faint blush had returned to her previously pale cheeks, and the temperature on her forehead had noticeably decreased.

That night, Liang Lin went out and returned several times, each time changing the damp handkerchief for Liang Di.

Finally, as dawn broke, Liang Lin quietly entered the room. Seeing Liang Di's condition, she breathed a sigh of relief. She went to the bedside and gently touched Liang Di's forehead, feeling the warmth dissipate, a relieved smile appearing on her lips.

She was overjoyed and wept tears of happiness. Liang Lin, at that moment, was like a mother who had finally found happiness after a long period of hardship, her eyes filled with loving tenderness as she looked at Liang Di.

"Liang Di, are you feeling better?" Liang Lin asked softly, her voice full of expectation.

Liang Di slightly opened her eyes, saw Liang Lin beside her, and smiled happily.  She nodded, her voice still weak, "Sister Liang Lin, I'm much better. Thank you for taking care of me all night."

"Oh, why are you thanking me? I'm the one who caused you to become like this. If you thank me, I..."

Liang Lin was embarrassed and scratched the back of her head.

"It's different, Sister Liang Lin," Liang Di shifted her position, her doe eyes fixed on Liang Lin, filled with undisguised affection.

Then, Liang Lin brought Liang Di a glass of warm water and some light food.

This time, before feeding Liang Di, she tasted it herself to make sure it wasn't too hot before setting it aside, preparing to help Liang Di sit up.

She carefully helped Liang Di sit up, letting her lean against the headboard, and then fed her spoonful by spoonful. Although Liang Di's appetite wasn't very good, it was food fed to her by her sister Liang Lin! She took a deep breath and tried to eat some.

"Ugh..."

She felt nauseous from being so full.

"Ugh, is the food really that bad? That shouldn't be the case, I didn't make this!"

Liang Lin also tasted the food, frowned, and found it wasn't bad at all.

Liang Di stared intently at the fork in Liang Lin's hand; it was shiny and glistening with Liang Lin's saliva.

"Oh, I see, you're full, right? Okay, tell me when you're full, then I won't feed you anymore. Seriously, have you lost your mind from the fever?"

Liang Lin said, trying to clear the plate away.

"Wait!"

Liang Di grabbed the fork, her eyes pleading, swallowing hard. "Sister Liang Lin, I'm almost full, please feed me one more bite, and I won't eat anymore after this."

"Huh?"

Liang Lin didn't understand what she meant by "almost full."

How could this girl's stomach be so precise about how much she needed to eat to feel full?

"You, have you lost your mind from the fever? And your stomach nerves aren't sensitive either? What do you mean, 'just one more bite and I'm full'?" Liang Lin held the plate high.

"You were just gagging, one more bite and you'll throw up! No, don't eat anymore!"

But!

That was a chance to indirectly kiss my Sister Liang Lin! I hadn't kissed my Sister Liang Lin in so long!

She was really envious of this opportunity!

"Just one bite, just one last bite, Sister Liang Lin, look, I'm sick, I'll just have one bite, what's wrong with that..." Liang Di grabbed Liang Lin's hand and started to plead.

Liang Di's pleading made Liang Lin's soul float away~

Liang Lin just couldn't resist people pleading with her; she was the type who responded better to gentleness than force.

"Alright, alright, eat up, eat up. If you throw up, don't blame me. Get down and clean up yourself, okay? Don't make me do it."

Liang Lin said this, but if Liang Di really did throw up, she couldn't possibly let the sick person get out of bed to clean up the vomit. She'd definitely have to clean it up herself while complaining.

Sigh, what a motherly life!

Liang Lin silently berated herself.

"Ah~"

Her mouth gaped open.

"Mmm~"

Liang Di, completely satisfied, put the fork in her mouth. The taste of the food was irrelevant, whether she was full or not was unimportant; what mattered was that it was a fork Liang Lin had used, allowing her to indirectly kiss the Liang Lin she had been longing for.

"Mmm~"

So satisfying!

While the two of them were relatively harmonious and friendly on this side, Gladys and Laura's babysitting team said their days were far from easy.

"Hey...! Don't pull my hair! Good heavens, you're little god!"

"Oh dear! Okay, okay, look at her! Quickly pull her away from me! Don't run away! Hold her tight! Hold her! Don't leave her to me!"

"I don't think I'm very good at looking after children. Gladys, it's your turn now. Don't you love playing?"

"Love my foot! I'm never playing with kids again! Please pull her away, I'm begging you!"

"Then forget it..."

"What are you doing? You're not allowed to leave!"

The scene became quite chaotic, and Gladys and Laura's faces were filled with exhaustion.

The story begins last night, during the time Liang Lin was taking care of Liang Di, she left Carol with this pair of idiots.

"Oh~ a cute human cub!"

At first, Gladys's innocent little face was full of joy.

She was actually quite happy; thankfully, she wasn't the one taking care of Liang Di. Running around like that would be exhausting; looking after a child was much simpler.

Her thinking was a bit simplistic; she was completely fooled by Carol's innocent-looking face.

That's understandable.

Carol sat on the bed, her small body wrapped in soft blankets, like a delicate porcelain doll. Her big eyes blinked, curiously observing everything around her, filled with endless curiosity about the world.

Her little hands were constantly exploring, sometimes grabbing a toy from the bedside table, sometimes touching the soft blankets—every movement was so innocent and naive. A sweet smile played on her lips, revealing her newly grown baby teeth, making one want to kiss her.

"Ahhh, she's so cute! I want to suck her blood!"

Gladys leaned over the bed, tilting her head, propping it up with her hand, looking at the human cub on the bed, revealing two sharp teeth and laughing.

Suddenly, Carol spotted a colorful picture book by the bedside. Her eyes lit up, and she reached out her little hand to grab it. Gladys quickly took it from her and offered it to her with both hands.

Carol turned the pages, looking at the pictures, babbling softly as if she were talking to the characters in the book.

"Oh dear~"

Gladys was still thankful that she hadn't been assigned to take care of Liang Di.

After a while, Carol seemed a little tired. She gently rested her head on the pillow and closed her eyes. Her breathing was even and soft, like a kitten dozing peacefully.

Looking at this adorable little one, Gladys felt a warm current well up in her heart. She was so innocent and pure, making one want to protect her and let her grow up happily and carefree in this world.

However, what she didn't know was that she couldn't let Carol sleep now, because if Carol slept now, then later in the night…

“Hey! Hey! Hey! Which bastard is pulling my hair?!” Gladys's shrill scream echoed in the room, startling Laura awake.

“What's wrong? Gladys, having a nightmare?” Laura rubbed her sleepy eyes, sat up, and looked at Gladys.

Just one glance made her burst out laughing.

“Pfft~”

“What are you doing? Hahahaha~!” Laura covered her mouth, laughing softly.

Gladys was annoyed, “How should I know? Before I went to sleep, she was sleeping soundly, and suddenly she started pulling my hair!”

Gladys didn't dare to pull too hard, afraid of hurting the little devil, so she could only call Laura to help and pick Carol up.

At this moment, naive Laura hadn't realized the seriousness of the situation, thinking it was just a minor incident for the evening, and everything would be fine once Carol fell asleep. She happily went to hug Carol.

"Oh dear... she's so tiny!"

Laura held Carol in her arms, gently patting her back.

Gladys's hair was now a mess, like a bird's nest. Annoyed, she got out of bed, went to the dressing mirror, and angrily picked up a comb.

"Seriously, she made me put on my shoes and come out of bed."

Some of her hair was tangled up, so tightly knotted that it took a lot of effort to untangle it with a comb. Gladys was furious, like a little bull, grumbling, "Hmph, if she weren't the young lady's child, I'd suck her blood dry right now!"

Laura didn't seem to care, teasing the human cub in her arms.

"What? She's quite cute. Look at her now, so well-behaved. You probably accidentally rolled over on her, hurting her and waking her up, so she pulled your hair, right?"

"How could that be?!" Gladys retorted loudly. "If I rolled over on her, wouldn't I feel something? I didn't feel a thing!"

"I've slept in the same bed with you, Gladys. I know what you're like when you sleep. You've never been a still sleeper," Laura silently exposed her.

Gladys liked to toss and turn in bed, searching for the best sleeping position.  Sometimes she would roll from one end of the bed to the other, or from one side to the other, constantly adjusting her position throughout the night.

Sleeping like this, Laura almost got kicked off the bed several times when they slept together. Other times, even when they were both sleeping face up, they would wake up in the morning to find Gladys's head and feet position switched. And that wasn't all; sometimes, Gladys would roll around in the middle of the night and end up with her head on Laura's stomach.

Several times, she kicked the blankets aside and threw the pillows on the floor, turning the entire bed into her stage for her own performance.

The funniest time was when Gladys suddenly rolled over, her arms and legs sticking out of the bed, and then she had a nightmare, yelling that someone was pulling her hands and feet from under the bed—she was a monster, yet she claimed there was a monster under her bed.

On those occasions, Laura didn't sleep in the same bed as Gladys; they slept in their own. But whenever Gladys had a nightmare, she would crawl into Laura's bed, snuggling into Laura's arms like a little piglet, seeking Laura's protection.

Yes, that's right, the situation where Laura and Gladys slept in the same bed was entirely Gladys's doing—crawling into Laura's bed whenever she had a nightmare.

Occasionally, even in the most ordinary circumstances, Laura would hear Gladys's murmurs in her sleep or soft snoring, which made her chuckle.

"You really have no self-awareness, Gladys," Laura said, half-laughing, half-crying. "Think about it, you've kicked me off the bed so many times! You're such a restless sleeper! Luckily, you didn't kick Carol to the floor. Such a small child, if you kicked her to the floor, she'd probably break her head!"

After listening, Gladys muttered a couple more words under her breath, then fell silent. What Laura said was indeed true. Now, even the idiot, the vampire princess, wasn't sure if she had accidentally crushed Carol or hurt her.

But...

"Since I'm such a restless sleeper, why don't you let Carol sleep in your bed?" Gladys was still shaken; she didn't want the child to pull her hair into a mess again.

Laura agreed without hesitation.

"Sure."

Even if Gladys hadn't brought it up, she would have. She was afraid that if she let Carol sleep in Gladys's bed again, Gladys would kick the child to death in the middle of the night.

And so, Laura's nightmare began.

She placed Carol on the bed beside her, one hand on Carol's back, patting her gently. Laura softly hummed a lullaby, the melody gentle, her voice tender and sweet.

It was already past midnight. Gladys lay back down on the bed, and within five minutes, snoring could be heard from the other side.

Meanwhile, Laura, though still patting Carol's back, was already exhausted. Her eyes were squinting, almost closed, and her hand movements slowed.

Just as Laura was drifting off to sleep, she felt something pinching and rubbing her face. Before she could open her eyes, a sharp pain shot through her face—someone was pulling at her cheeks! She was instantly jolted awake, letting out a painful cry just like Gladys had.

"Ouch!!"

This time, Gladys sat bolt upright, clutching her heart, and looked at Laura.

"What's wrong now? Don't startle me! I was just sleeping!"
