V2: Chapter 81: Miss Tentacles Wants to Fulfill Her Motherly Responsibilities
Snap snap~
Swish swish swish~
The wrapping paper was carefully torn off by Liang Di. Liang Di tried her best to tear the wrapping paper neatly.
"Something that Sister Liang Lin gave me..."
Yes, this was something that Sister Liang Lin gave her, of course she had to keep it safe. Even if it was just a torn piece of wrapping paper, she would treasure it on her bookshelf.
Well, to be honest, if someone did this now, it would definitely be called—simp behavior.
Of course, there's no such thing as a pretty simp.
"Uh?"
Opening the box, upon closer inspection, she found that it was a small, opaque black medicine bottle.
Liang Di, puzzled, took the small medicine bottle out of the box, held it in front of her, and shook it. Her eyes even crossed as she muttered to herself, "Huh? What is this?"
Judging from its appearance, she couldn't tell what it was. So, Liang Di opened the cap.
With a "pop,"
Liang Di leaned closer and took a deep breath.
"Ugh."
"Ugh!"
She inhaled too forcefully, and the bitter air rushed into her nostrils, being inhaled thoroughly. The pungent smell hit her head, a sensation akin to a cool breeze splitting open her skull.
"Ugh!!!"
Liang Di clutched her stomach, bent over, and dry-heaved several times, her eyes reddening.
What's this smell? It's stinky and bitter.
Liang Di suppressed her nausea, thinking that this was a gift from her sister Liang Lin, and she should cherish it. Ignoring her discomfort, she put the cap back on, flipped the bottle over, and saw the large characters on the back—"Cold Medicine."
Ah…
Why did Sister Liang Lin suddenly give me something like this? I don't even have a cold!
Liang Di tried hard to recall her recent actions.
Oh… could it be because I kept coughing at the dinner table yesterday? I choked on my water and had been coughing ever since. So, Sister Liang Lin misunderstood me?
.... But, these kinds of misunderstandings don't seem to be so bad.
Liang Di's nausea and vomiting subsided. She happily put the small medicine bottle back in the box, clutching it tightly to her chest as if it were a priceless treasure.
She quickly took it back to her room to put it away, making sure it wasn't broken.
Liang Lin didn't give her many gifts to begin with, and every single one was carefully treasured by Liang Di, either placed in a small, locked box or in the most prominent and secure spot on her bookshelf.
As she reached the corner, Liang Di suddenly stopped, an idea popping into her head.
Since Carol wasn't sleeping with Liang Lin tonight, she could take Carol to her own room. She had never slept in the same bed as her daughter before, nor had she ever put her to sleep; she felt she hadn't fulfilled her responsibilities as a mother.
She had just lied to Carol, promising to play with her properly in the future, and today was her chance. If she delayed any longer, her work would become even busier, and she might have even less time to play with Carol. Then, in her daughter's eyes, wouldn't she become a big liar (even though Carol was still young, couldn't remember things, and didn't understand much)?
Okay!
Liang Di clenched her fists.
However, she still needed to put the gift back in the room first, lest it accidentally fall and break on the way.
This fully proved that wife was the true love, and the child was just an accident.
Knock knock knock~
Gladys and Laura's room was being knocked on. The two women inside were currently unable to sleep because of Carol's incessant chatter, and were worried about how to get through this agonizing night. Just then, their hero appeared, rescuing them from their predicament.
Liang Di.
Gladys and Laura opened the door, and the moment they saw Liang Di, their listless spirits lifted again, but the next second, they immediately deflated. They didn't hold out much hope and assumed Liang Di had come to take Carol away.
"Miss Liang Di, is there something you need? If it's to clean the house, or perhaps to cook some dessert, I'd be happy to!" Laura raised her hand before Gladys could.
Gladys's eyes widened, looking at Laura with the eyes of someone looking at a traitor, her face turning green.
"Damn it, Laura, how could you..."
But Liang Di shook his head, pointed at Carol in Gladys's arms, and spoke softly, as if afraid of startling the child in her arms, "I'm here to take Carol away. Give her to me. You've had a hard time these past few days. Go to sleep, I'll take care of her."
Gladys and Laura froze, dumbfounded.
Really? Godfather.
The words almost escaped their lips.
"Miss Liang Di, do you mean we should give Carol to you?" Laura couldn't believe her ears and asked again, pleading.
Liang Di, however, grew impatient, reaching out to take the child.
"Yes, that's what I meant. What's wrong? Do you want to keep watching her? I know my child is adorable, but... Pfft!"
Carol was shoved into Liang Di's arms by Gladys in a swift lunge.
"Thank you! Thank you, Miss Liang Di, you're practically a savior of the entire Langwendi family, no! The entire Soteland Empire!"
Gladys was overwhelmed with gratitude, tears and snot streaming down her face, even more excited than when she'd tasted the delicious blood clots.
Being made to watch Carol was worse than giving up fresh blood clots for a week.
"Uh, oh."
"Oh."
Liang Di blinked blankly, unaware of what awaited her.
"Miss Liang Di," Laura gave the tentacle-wielding woman a meaningful look before closing the door, "I wish you sweet dreams tonight."
With that, the door slammed shut between the two of them.
Clatter~
As soon as the door closed, Gladys set off like a wild donkey let loose—no, to be precise, like a mare who'd eaten a sweet banana—jumping and leaping around the room.
"Great! I can finally get a good night's sleep tonight!"
Laura, looking relieved, sprawled out onto the bed.
Meanwhile, Liang Di, carrying Carol, returned to her room.
