V2: Chapter 85: A Tsundere's Death, a Wounded Soul [A Heartbreaking Scene]

Hearing the noise behind them, Liang Lin and Natalie turned around in unison.

What Liang Lin saw was Liang Di's bloodless, pale face. The child's body seemed to be trembling, looking utterly heartbroken. At her feet were shards of a plate and a smashed cake.

"Liang..."

Liang Lin opened her mouth, but for some reason, her throat felt blocked, and she couldn't utter the next word. She felt inexplicably guilty, afraid to meet Liang Di's gaze, afraid to look into Liang Di's clear blue eyes. She felt like she had done something wrong, like a child who had done something wrong, or like a quail, and lowered her head.

She was genuinely a little scared, afraid that Liang Di would come over angrily and start a big fight, or perhaps, as usual, suddenly sit on the ground and start throwing a tantrum, demanding that she say she loved her.

There were outsiders around; wouldn't that be too embarrassing? Liang Di should know her place, right?

But after waiting for about half a minute, that familiar figure still hadn't appeared. The surroundings were quiet, and Natalie hadn't spoken again.

Liang Lin hesitated, then raised her head, her eyes suddenly becoming confused. She looked around, left and right, but couldn't see the silver-haired girl.

Where did Liang Di go? Wasn't she just standing there? She didn't even come over to throw a tantrum; that's not like her at all.

"Miss Liang Lin..."

At this moment, Natalie finally spoke. She pointed in the direction Liang Di had disappeared, "There are broken plates over there. Have the servants clean them up."

"Uh, yes."

Liang Lin finally came to her senses and waved to the maid behind her.

"There are broken plates over there, can't you see?"

Just that simple sentence made the maid shudder. Several maids rushed forward, eager to avoid being scolded by their mischievous young mistress.

"Miss Liang Di, she just glanced at me, but she's probably... she's probably busy with her own things again."

Because Liang Lin had been silent for so long, Natalie felt a little awkward and began to try and smooth things over for Liang Di.

Actually, she was secretly pleased, even a little smug, because Liang Lin had said she would never like Liang Di, which meant her biggest threat was gone. Besides, Liang Di's dejected expression just now clearly showed that she had been hurt by Liang Lin's words. She'd probably be heartbroken for a long time.

What if, just this once, she stopped liking Liang Lin?

Natalie secretly thought to herself, feeling much better than when she arrived. She even couldn't help but laugh out loud, quickly covering her mouth. But the corners of her mouth couldn't be stopped from turning upwards.

“Who cares about her? She's so strange,” Liang Lin’s mouth remained stubborn; perhaps until her cremation, her mouth was the only part of her body that remained unyielding. “She suddenly showed up, broke a plate, and left. She's really got issues. Heh, spoiled rotten, huh?”

As soon as she said this, Liang Lin regretted it.

Why couldn't she always control herself and say such things? These words really hurt people, didn’t they?

Liang Lin scratched her head in frustration, then sighed inexplicably, feeling a void in her heart. Every time she closed her eyes, all she could see in her mind was Liang Di’s heartbroken face.

What is she doing now? Is she secretly running away, hiding in a corner, quietly crying? She’s probably wiping away her tears in some dark corner; it’s so pitiful.

Thinking this, Liang Lin felt uneasy and subconsciously stood up.

“Miss Liang Lin?”

Natalie looked up at Liang Lin. “Are you going to…”

“Ah, I…”

Liang Lin realized her lapse in composure and immediately sat back down, pretending to be nonchalant. She picked up her teacup, took a sip, and tried to hide her unease.

“Nothing, I just… I need to go to the restroom.”

“I see,” Natalie actually believed her. “Then go ahead, we’ll talk later.”

This was exactly what Liang Lin wanted.

Liang Lin immediately stood up, her steps hurried, almost disorganized.

Yes, that’s right, she just wanted to go to the restroom, she just wanted to go to the restroom, she needed to go upstairs now, she took a step, to the restroom!

Hmm…

How strange, there’s a restroom on the second floor, so how did I end up on the third floor without realizing it?

"Then I'll go to the third-floor restroom. It must be because I live on the third floor that I went up there on my own, even though my mind was a bit muddled."

Liang Lin tried to convince herself, trying to justify her actions.

"It's just the restroom, isn't it? Hurry up and go in! Why won't I go in? Ugh, why can't I stop myself? Why am I just walking straight ahead?"

Liang Lin clearly saw the restroom, but instead of turning around and going in, she walked past it and then a short distance to Liang Di's study door.

Like a thief, she crept furtively to the door, straining her ears to hear anything inside.

After listening for a while, she found there was no sound.

"Hmm…"

"That girl probably went back to her room. I'll go check her room."

"Wait a minute.... I clearly came to use the restroom, why am I so concerned about her?"

Liang Lin tried to forcefully change her path, but to no avail. Her brain seemed to have no control over her legs, pulling and dragging her in the opposite direction.

Forget it.

That girl reacted so strongly back then, what if something really happened? That white-haired bastard, so petty, what stupid thing did she do? Or maybe she's going to pull some kind of dark stunt again? If she imprisons me again someday, I'll nip that idea in the bud!

Liang Lin muttered to herself for a long time, unwilling to admit that she cared about Liang Di.

Arriving at Liang Di's room door, Liang Lin was about to press her entire body against the door as before when she noticed it was ajar.

Liang Lin was startled and immediately pressed herself against the door, afraid the person inside would see her.

Now, she was even more certain that Liang Di was definitely in her room.

Liang Lin cautiously approached the crack in the door, closed one eye, and strained to see into the room with the other. The room was dimly lit, and a rustling sound reached her ears.

It was the sound of a baby crying.

Beside the bed, a familiar figure lay prone.
