V2: Chapter 103: There's a Traitor
"What's wrong, Miss?"
Bellica initially remained calm, her face expressionless, completely devoid of emotion.
"Bellica, find Miranda for me! Something's happened, something's definitely happened, something's definitely wrong!" Liang Di's voice grew louder, revealing a silent anxiety.
Seeing her mistress's loss of composure, Bellica immediately realized the seriousness of the situation. She abandoned her composure, grabbed the still swaying Gladys and Laura by the back of their collars, and dragged them away.
"Go, go find Miranda and Edwin."
"Really, why bother looking for them...?" Gladys muttered as she ran, "I'm annoyed with them already, why do I have to look for them?"
"Just look for them, why so much nonsense?" Bellica coldly glanced at the talkative vampire, and Gladys shuddered before obediently shutting her mouth.
This child is really stubborn; she needs to be scolded a couple of times before she can concentrate on her work.
“Sister Liang Lin, let’s go straight to Miranda’s room.” Liang Di grabbed Liang Lin’s hand.
Liang Lin knew the situation was urgent, so she didn’t argue further and didn’t pull her hand away, letting Liang Di lead her through the corridor.
“So, after they returned from the palace, what did you notice that was wrong? What deadly weapon did they take? Could it be that poison that could harm you? Did they make it and bring it back to poison you?”
Liang Lin kept speculating along the way.
“No, I’ve guessed the worst…” Liang Di looked ahead, wanting to continue, but they had already arrived at Miranda’s room. The door was tightly closed, and Liang Di gently pulled it, but it wouldn’t open.
“I’ll continue later.”
With that, she raised her hand and knocked on the door.
Knock, knock, knock.
No one answered from inside the room. Everything was quiet except for the knocking.
Liang Di frowned, her hand still raised to knock.
Knock, knock, knock.
She knocked again, but still no one answered.
"Looks like she's not here," Liang Lin said.
"How will we know if we don't open it and see?" Liang Di said, her tentacles extending from her back, violently breaking open the door.
The sound was quite loud, startling Liang Lin.
Liang Lin looked left and right, and only after finding no maid nearby did she relax, patting her chest and complaining, "Such a loud noise, weren't you afraid of attracting attention?"
"It's alright, Bellica has already taken care of that."
Liang Di's expression was calm.
Although she hadn't communicated with Bellica or given her any instructions, she knew that Bellica, having followed her for so long, must already know how she should handle this situation.
After breaking down the door, Liang Di stepped inside first. After looking around, her gaze settled on the bed with the curtains drawn. In broad daylight, keeping the bed so tightly covered was definitely suspicious.
"Is she here...?"
"No need to ask, just go and see." Before Liang Di could even approach, Liang Lin strode forward without hesitation, walking directly to the bed and pulling back the curtains.
Liang Di followed behind Liang Lin, peering inside.
The bed was empty. Liang Di reached out and touched it, finding it ice-cold; clearly, no one had lain there. Furthermore, the bed was perfectly smooth, as if the maid had made it that morning and no one had sat on it since.
"Tsk."
Liang Di took Liang Lin's hand again.
"Okay, Sister Liang Lin, it seems they're not here."
"I've already asked Laura to tell Octaville and the others. They should be able to see the two people's movements through the magic crystal sphere soon, but it'll take a while. I can't wait. We'd better find them before they arrive."
Liang Di paused, her expression becoming even more serious. She murmured something Liang Lin couldn't understand, her voice very soft, very low, "Although it's possible... they're not themselves anymore."
They're not themselves anymore?
What does that mean?
"Hurry up and explain yourself clearly, otherwise I won't know how to help you." Liang Lin was even more agitated. "You've been dragging me around without telling me anything. What's going on? You're really annoying me, you know?"
"Because it's too complicated. I don't know how to explain it to you so you can understand." Liang Di sighed, but her steps didn't slow down.
"In short, to put it in terms you can probably understand, they're not real people anymore. They're fake. Do you understand? They're fake. There's no blood, no flesh. They might be paper figures, or they might be wooden figures, but they can't possibly be real people."
Hiss~
"This..."
Liang Lin gasped. This long explanation had completely overwhelmed her. It was like seeing a tentacle girl for the first time, or witnessing magic for the first time. Everything was shattering her worldview.
"So, the real ones aren't here? And the ones at home now are fake, right? So they're not real people, but if they're not real, wouldn't it be obvious at a glance...?"
Liang Lin recalled the Miranda and Edwin she had just seen. They were clearly living, breathing, flesh-and-blood people. Especially Edwin, that kid, his expression was still so irritating. When he saw her, he even stuck out his tongue—that damn jerk, wasn't that him?
"No, it's not like that."
Liang Di found it difficult to say. How could she explain that she had also used this magic trick? During the time she imprisoned Liang Lin, she had used this magic trick.
"Well, basically it's a mannequin. It moves, and its texture is exactly the same as a real person's."
Liang Di continued, "It's all created using magic. This magic trick is actually quite common. Although it's somewhat difficult, with enough time and experience, basically every magician can learn it."
So…
Liang Di paused for a second.
"It seems the traitors within our Magic Tower haven't been completely eliminated yet."
As she said this, her eyes gleamed with boundless ruthlessness.
"These damned rats, always hiding in the shadows, impossible to catch."
After saying this, the two arrived at Edwin's room door.
Knock Knock Knock
The room remained silent; no one responded.
Using the old method, they forcefully opened the door.
The room was empty; not even the shadows of the mother and son were visible.
“Looks like she’s not here either.”
Liang Lin looked left and right, even under the table, but couldn’t find a trace of her.
“This is really hard to find,” Liang Di said, feeling frustrated. “There are so many rooms in the house, how long will it take to search them all?”
“It’s okay, my sister and Octaville should be here soon. You guys drew the teleportation array pretty quickly, it shouldn’t take long.”
Just as she finished speaking, Laura came running up, panting.
“Miss Liang, Miss Liang Di! Miss Liang Lin!”
“Miss Hilary is here!”
But she didn’t mention Octaville’s name. Liang Lin glanced behind Laura.
Behind her were her sister, Bellica, and Gladys. The tall, red-haired woman hadn’t come with them.
“Huh?”
Liang Lin asked, “Where’s Octaville? Why didn’t she come with you?”
Hilary entered the room first, carrying a magic crystal ball.
“Fu has gone to deal with other monsters elsewhere and is not in the Magic Tower right now. Her location is too far away for me to notify her in time. I’ll come over first and have the other magicians notify her.”
