V2: Chapter 106: Tracking

"Really?"

Liang Lin was shocked. She looked at Liang Di beside her, then at Edwin, who was kneeling on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably, tears and snot streaming down his face.

"How can you tell the difference between fake and real?"

Liang Di touched her eyes. "It's not exactly seeing with your eyes, but feeling with your heart. You can sense that your kind has a certain scent, or rather, a feeling."

"A feeling...?" Liang Lin muttered to herself.

"Then what about this child?"

Liang Lin pointed at the still-crying Edwin, impatiently picking at her ear with her little finger. "His crying is so annoying. If you're not going to kill him, you should sew his mouth shut. This child is just like his mother, stupid and wicked. It's better to take this opportunity to..."

"Never mind, there will be plenty of opportunities to kill him later." Liang Di shook her head.

After saying this, she looked towards the depths of the garden. "After all, I promised Donald."

Donald, the kind old man who had always been so good to her, was still her only blood relative in the world. Liang Di didn't want to see this kind old man show a sad expression. If she killed Edwin now, although the old man couldn't kill her, and wouldn't, he would surely leave the Langwendi mansion due to excessive grief, growing old and dying alone.

Thinking about it this way, she decided against it.

Old Master Donald wasn't in good health either; Liang Di had a premonition that he wouldn't live much longer.

Therefore, while he was still alive, she should try to fulfill his wishes.

"Miranda is fine, but Edwin, I think I still need to consider it."

If it was just killing Miranda, only Edwin would be heartbroken.

“Once Miranda returns, we’ll have a perfectly legitimate reason to kill her. Grandpa Donald won’t stop me from killing Miranda because he feels sorry for Edwin without a mother.”

“After all…” Liang Di glanced coldly at the mannequin on the ground, “what this woman did, I think, wasn’t simple.”

“Doris is quite clever. No wonder she often summons Miranda to the palace, saying she’s going to deliver blood or something—it’s all a lie, an excuse. Although there’s a possibility, she wouldn’t go to the palace that frequently. Her main purpose is to lower our guard.”

A long time had passed. Liang Di paced back and forth in the back garden, her heart pounding. She couldn’t sit still. She couldn’t figure out Doris’s plan, nor did she know Miranda’s whereabouts. So, she was completely lost, not knowing where to go, not knowing where to go to bring Miranda back.

“Why are you pacing back and forth in the yard? You look so anxious,” Liang Lin said, taking a sip of water and gulping it down. “Even if you’re very anxious, walking thousands or tens of thousands of steps in the yard won’t help. You’d be better off saving your energy so we can go and bring her back together later.”

“Mm.”

Liang Di responded faintly. “I understand the logic, but my heart is just too panicked. I have a feeling that something terrible is about to happen, so…”

Just then.

“Miss Liang Di! Miss Liang Lin!”

Laura’s voice came from afar. She was running ahead, panting, followed by Prescott, who was walking hurriedly.

As Prescott walked, he muttered to himself, "You people from the Magic Tower really need to practice this magic. Otherwise, you'll have to come to me again if something like this happens."

After thinking for a moment, he added, "Coming to me isn't a problem for me, and I don't find it troublesome. But if things are too urgent, coming to me and then me coming to you is a huge waste of time, and we might miss something very important."

Liang Di took the magic crystal ball from Gladys's hand, holding it as she approached Prescott. "Senior Prescott, thank you so much."

"It's alright, no need to be so polite," Prescott said, taking the magic crystal ball.

Prescott placed his hands on the magic crystal ball, muttering something to himself. Liang Lin felt like she could hear it clearly, but even when she strained her ears, she couldn't understand what he was saying.

"Sigh~"

The world of magicians is truly complicated; all they do every day is spout incomprehensible incantations.

Liang Lin sighed.

However, there was no reaction inside the magic crystal ball; it was just a very dark gray area, without any flashes of white light or any colored light, unlike the grand reaction that had occurred when Liang Di used the magic crystal ball earlier.

A long time passed—she doesn't know if it was five minutes or ten minutes—but Liang Lin went from being completely focused, to getting bored and spinning in circles, then sitting in a chair, propping her head up with her hand, staring blankly at the bushes not far away, and finally becoming drowsy, her head starting to nod off.

"Why isn't it done yet? It's been so long, could it have failed?" Liang Lin wanted to ask this question, but looking left and right, she saw that Liang Di, Bellica, and her sister were all staring intently at the magic crystal ball in Prescott's hand.

Ah, everyone's expressions are so serious, it seems... well, except for me, I'm all sleepy, it's so shameful...

Just as Liang Lin was feeling ashamed of her reaction, she turned her head and saw Gladys standing ramrod straight, even straighter than a tree stump.

Good heavens, even this usually mischievous child seems unusually serious now. Sigh, I'm so ashamed, how could I want to sleep... Hmm? Something feels off? Something is wrong...

Liang Lin squinted, carefully observing Gladys beside her.

Even though this girl is standing so straight, something still feels off, something's strange.

What's wrong?

Thinking to herself, and since she was bored anyway, Liang Lin stood up and approached Gladys.

The girl was looking down.

After getting a little closer...

 "..."

"Snoring~"

"Snoring~"

A familiar snoring sound came from behind.

Liang Lin: "....."

Well, I knew it! So this guy was suddenly so quiet and focused; she was asleep!

Liang Lin was both amused and exasperated.

This was the first time in her life she'd ever seen someone sleep standing up, and so soundly at that.
