V2: Chapter 135: The Plan should be Executed Now
All eyes turned to the person who had spoken. The moment they saw the face clearly, their expressions became incredibly varied—some mocked, some ridiculed, and some scrutinized the person from head to toe.
"Miss Hedy, you say you're on good terms with Miss Liang Di? This..... how is that possible?"
Everyone knew she often eloped with that poor commoner boy; how could she possibly have the opportunity to meet someone as important as Liang Di? The other young ladies laughed, their eyes filled with disbelief.
That's right, the person speaking was Miss Hedy, the one Liang Di had met when she and Liang Lin sought shelter from the rain at the castle—the one who had eloped for love.
Because her family was useful to Liang Di, Liang Di had gone up to her and said a few flattering words. After that, she frequently visited Miss Hedy's house, ostensibly to see her, but actually to find out about their family's inner workings. Hedy, however, naively believed she was genuinely there to see her.
Miss Hedy's parents were quite welcoming of Liang Di's arrival. Liang Di was now famous throughout the aristocratic circles and a favorite of the king, rumored to be a strong contender for the future queen. As the king's loyal henchman, Hedy's father naturally wanted to curry favor with Liang Di.
Recently, there had been no more news of Hedy eloping with a commoner, and her relationship with Liang Di seemed quite good. Therefore, the family gradually relaxed their restrictions on her, allowing her free movement, which is why she was able to attend this tea party.
As for why she didn't elope with that commoner... it wasn't that she had repented, nor that she had changed her mind, nor that anything had happened to the commoner—he was being well protected. The reason, of course, was Liang Di's terrible advice: to behave herself for a while, lower the family's guard, and then plan her elopement later.
Several times, Hedy had used the excuse of going out with Liang Di to leave the family residence and spend time with her lover. Liang Di knew about this, but never exposed it, simply tacitly accepting it.
What a foolish young lady, still unaware she's being used, still unaware her family is on the verge of collapse.
At this moment.
"I really am good friends with Miss Liang Di," Hedy said, her back ramrod straight, as if she were showing off something she was very proud of. "Miss Liang Di and I met after a rain. We share some similar views, so we hit it off. You could even call us soulmates."
She was certainly boasting.
"Ha..."
The surrounding people looked at her with even more disbelief. They sized Hedy up and down, whispering again.
"How could that be? Her?"
"What views could she possibly share with Miss Liang Di? Perhaps in matters of love?"
"Miss Liang Di would never look at such a useless commoner. How could she possibly have any similar views with her?"
"Yes, I agree."
"I suspect she's just bragging."
The surrounding whispers reached Hedy's ears without missing a word. Hedy's face flushed slightly, likely from embarrassment and anger.
"If you don't believe me, follow me and see if I can get into Langwendi's mansion alone!" She had quite a temper, slamming her hand on the table and standing up.
Several nosy young ladies from wealthy families also stood up.
"Sure, let's go now and see if you can get in. If you can..." the leading lady smiled, "I'll agree to whatever you ask."
It was a bet.
Hedy was quite confident. She immediately replied, "Okay, let's go now. When we get to Langwendi's mansion, you wait at a distance and see if I can get in."
"Alright."
The young ladies all seemed to be watching the spectacle with amusement, but most of them dared not go along. Most were from lesser noble families and didn't dare cause trouble, while the other young ladies from more powerful families were also somewhat afraid and dared not join in the fun.
So, Hedy led six young ladies into a carriage and headed towards the Langwendi mansion.
Upon arriving at the Langwendi mansion,
"Go ahead, Miss Hedy."
The other young ladies stood a short distance away, arms crossed, watching Hedy with amusement and gesturing for her to enter.
Hedy calmly approached the servants at the entrance.
"I've come to see Miss Liang Di Langwendi."
The servants, seeing that the young lady was unfamiliar, didn't let her in immediately, but instead asked, "Miss, may I ask your name...?"
"Hedy."
Hattie, fearing they hadn't heard of her, quickly added, "My name is Hedy Wagner, and I'm a young lady from the Wagner family."
The servants heard of her, no, she's quite famous.
How could she not be famous? The news of Hedy and her lover's numerous failed attempts to elope has spread throughout the entire aristocratic circle, and even among the servants.
"Yes, Miss."
The servants were secretly laughing.
How could their noble young lady have anything to do with such a person? This was definitely someone trying to climb the social ladder.
But then...
"Oh?" Liang Di raised an eyebrow and put down the papers in her hand.
"Let her in."
Although surprised, not knowing why the other woman had come to see her, since she was here, it was necessary to let her in to maintain a facade of friendliness.
The servants were even more surprised. Their young lady really knew this "famous" woman? They wondered what methods that woman had used.
As Hedy entered the mansion, she turned back and gave the other young ladies a smug smile. The smile was so blatant that it froze the smiles on their faces.
"So, she really does know Miss Liang Di."
"You really can't judge a book by its cover."
Hedy entered Liang Di's study.
Liang Di put all the papers into the drawer. Although Hedy was a bit naive, one should always be cautious.
"Hedy, what brings you here?"
Liang Di smiled insincerely and stood up. "Why didn't you go on your date with your sweetheart today?"
Hedy didn't dare admit she'd made a bet, so she chuckled awkwardly. "Ah, I suddenly missed you, so I came to chat and clear my head."
Liang Di naturally didn't believe this excuse, but even if she didn't, she had to play along.
"Alright, Miss Hedy, I'll have the maid pour you a cup of black tea and some snacks. We can talk slowly."
Liang Di rubbed her temples, secretly calculating in her mind that it was time to execute her plan.
With so many unexpected events lately, it was best to find the right opportunity to completely crush them.
