V2: Chapter 138: As Long as There is Life, There will Always Be Love

Dog fights happen all the time, especially among the king's dogs. They all dislike each other, much like concubines vying for the king's favor, each believing themselves to be his closest confidant.

Duke Gustav was a devout Christian who attended church weekly and kept Bibles and idols at home, making it easy for Liang Di to act. Creating a dream-like illusion was simple; given his faith, she could create a "God" to tell him that there were treasonous letters in the study of the head of the Wagner family.

Liang Di thought he probably wouldn't disbelieve.

After hearing Liang Di's plan, Liang Lin sighed and said nothing. However, she secretly wished she had a talent for magic; many things could be resolved easily without resorting to violence.

Well… in a way, she does quite like solving things with violence. After all, it's very simple (for her), all she has to do is swing her fist and beat the person half to death. It doesn't take much effort, at most the fist will hurt a little (that's how physically strong but simple-minded people are).

After Miss Hedy and her lover's elopement was discovered, only a small group was sent to search for them on the first day. However, this time, after a whole day of searching, they found nothing. In the past, they would have been found within two days at most, but on the second day, the guards sent out by the Wagner family still hadn't found Hedy and her lover.

Now, the head of the Wagner family, desperate for his daughter, was utterly frantic.

Hedy remained missing for half a month without being found.

And just half a month later, the Wagner family suffered a devastating annihilation.

On that very day, everyone in the noble circles knew that Gustav had accused Duke Wagner of colluding with other empires to overthrow the Soteland Empire.

The King asked Gustav how he knew this, and Gustav swore it was all God's will. He begged the King to believe him; God would not lie. He explained that he was being told these things because he was a faithful believer, and God had given him guidance—a gift earned through years of faith.

The King initially didn't believe him, but being inherently suspicious, he naturally had to investigate. What he found was alarming. The knights discovered that on each shelf of the Wagner family head's bookshelf were several letters, all discussing how to overthrow the Soteland Empire.

After the news was presented to the King, he was furious. The entire Wagner family, from the head of the household down to the steward, was hanged and their bodies displayed in public. The remaining servants and maids were all exiled to border cities.

Liang Di laughed upon hearing this news.

“Bellica, I think Hedy should thank me. I helped her fulfill her long-held dream of eloping with her lover and saved her from being hanged. She's probably enjoying herself with her lover right now. I wonder how long it will take for the news of her family's demise to reach her ears.”

But it didn't matter. Even if she knew, what could she do? With her love-struck mind, how could she possibly imagine that she was the one who killed her father? Besides, Hedy was now a convict. If she dared to return, she would be on the gallows the next day, becoming another "sunny doll" (a symbol of misfortune).

“How stupid, Your Majesty.”

These were the words of Bellica.

"Do you believe it, Bellica, that Doris was also involved?"

"Yes, that's what I think too, Miss."

Liang Di pondered for a moment.

“Doris is on my side in this regard. We both really want to get rid of those pests around the King. The more we get rid of, the better it is for both Doris and me.”

“So now I’m curious, what exactly is Doris’s weakness?”

Liang Di looked at the portrait of Lady Meredith hanging on the wall, narrowing her eyes.

“Bellica, do you think my mother thought of me before she died?”

“She would have thought of you first, Miss,” Bellica said decisively. “You are the lady’s first child, her most beloved daughter.”

“And how many mothers in the world don’t love their own children?”

Liang Di’s voice trailed off, her thoughts drifting far away.

“Like the first time I saw Carol, I felt that I could give my life for this little one, I could die to protect her. This is something I had never thought of before.”

At this point, the room suddenly fell silent.

After a while…

“The moment I saw Sister Liang Lin, I felt I could give my life for her.”

“The same thought came to me the moment I saw my daughter. She's so small, looks so fragile, like.... a little meatball, but the first time we met, I wanted to give my life for her.”

“Is this family love?”

“Is this a mother’s love?”

Bellica’s hand slowly rested on Liang Di’s shoulder. “Miss Liang Di, I’m certain this is motherly love.”

“Bellica, I’m a monster, I always have been. When I was little, people told me I was a monster, that I had no feelings. But the moment I reunited with Sister Liang Lin, I felt something subtly changing within me. That might.... be human emotion.”

Liang Di’s eyes welled up; she raised her hand and rubbed her temples.

“Monsters also have maternal love. You could say that all living beings in this world experience love. Some love selfishly, some love selflessly. I don't know which kind I am, but I'm certain I could sacrifice myself for my sister and daughter.”

“So, what about Doris, a monster who is also a mother?”

Liang Di withdrew her sentimental emotions and focused her attention on Doris's son, Gael.

“We just need to target Gael. Doris can't always be by Gael's side. Recently, Gael has been following the king's orders and frequently comes to see me. I'll have many opportunities to strike. Although I've considered doing something to Gael to threaten Doris, it's best not to alert him yet.”

Bellica expressed her agreement.

The two of them discussed this in the room, completely unaware that a figure was eavesdropping outside the door, pressed against the crack, straining to hear the sounds coming from inside.
