V2: Chapter 159: Mama, I'm Suffocating!

Carol felt like she couldn't breathe, clutching Liang Lin's pajamas tightly with her little hands. She struggled, trying to speak, but with her mouth buried in Liang Lin's chest, she couldn't make a sound, only letting out soft whimpers.

Liang Lin was completely unaware of the child's condition; her attention was entirely focused on Liang Di.

Their breaths mingled, creating a strange "tsk tsk" sound. Liang Lin was startled; her mouth had opened without her noticing.

"Enough, enough."

Liang Lin pushed Liang Di's shoulder forcefully with her other hand, but the hand pressing down on Carol's head remained firmly in place, truly unwavering in its purpose.

Carol's face was flushed red in Liang Lin's arms, but Liang Lin couldn't see it and couldn't help her.

Liang Di hugged Liang Lin's waist tightly.  This tighter embrace only squeezed Carol even tighter between them, making her feel like she'd be flattened into a pancake if she pulled any harder.

Carol: "....."

Ah, her mind went completely blank. She felt like she'd fallen into a swimming pool and couldn't swim, unable to even doggy paddle.

Mama, I'm setting sail today!

Finally, Carol was about to faint from holding her breath any longer. She reached out her two small, delicate hands and pinched Liang Lin and Liang Di's waists hard.

"Pfft!"

Teeth clashed, lips bumped, and the two finally snapped back to reality, clutching their waists in pain.

"Carol, what are you doing?" Liang Lin rubbed her reddened waist. "Why are you pinching Me?"

Carol: "...?"

You have the nerve to ask?

"I can't breathe, Mama."

"Phew~"

Carol finally breathed in fresh air. She gasped for air, wishing she could inhale all the oxygen in the room.

"Mama, why were you pressing my head down?" Carol looked up at her with a pitiful expression.

"..."

How do you explain this?

Say we were whispering sweet nothings?

That's inappropriate for children! Carol is too young to be exposed to such things.

Liang Lin guiltily looked away, glancing at Liang Di, and winked at her, seemingly wanting the other to come up with an excuse for Carol.

"Uh."

Liang Di awkwardly scratched her cheek, her eyes darting around, and finally, she gave an unnatural smile.

"Just now, I was talking to your Mama about something very important. It's something pretty scary, and it's not good for little kids to hear it; it might give them nightmares. So, so… she held you close to her chest so you wouldn't hear it, we were afraid you'd have nightmares."

What a flimsy excuse!

Liang Lin covered her face.

But she couldn't think of a natural reason, so she could only continue using the Tentacle Girl excuse.

"Yes, yes, that's right."

"It's something really scary, Carol. It's not good for little kids to hear it. If you want to hear a story, I can tell you a fairy tale, okay?"

Carol, though very clever, was still only a four-year-old. She blinked and actually believed her.

She started acting like a brat, "No, I want to hear a scary story."

"Uh…"

Well, it's just a lame excuse anyway. Since Carol's making a fuss, I might as well tell her a story. Liang Di thought.

“Okay, but I’m going to tell you a less scary one. That one was really terrifying, haha.... Let Mommy think of something.” Liang Di’s brain was racing.

However, Liang Lin interrupted her, starting to make faces.

“No, Carol is only four. What if you tell her a scary story and she can’t sleep at night?”

“I want to hear it! I want to hear it!” Carol snuggled against Liang Lin’s stomach like a little pig.

Unable to scold her own child, Liang Lin scolded Liang Di instead, “Look at the excuse you came up with! Now she’s got a hold of you.”

“It’s okay, don’t worry, Sister Liang Lin. I’m thinking… I’m thinking of a story that’s not so scary.”

Liang Di racked her brains.

“I’ll tell her about my experiences at the beach, not the really terrifying kind. She’ll be exposed to these things when she grows up anyway, so it’s good to start early.”

Letting my daughter go to the beach and fight those terrifying monsters?

Although somewhat worried about her daughter, Liang Lin, as her mother, still longed to see her brave and valiant side on the battlefield.

"Alright," she said, reluctantly agreeing.

"Carol, you've never been to the beach, have you? Let me tell you," Liang Di paused for a moment, "There's a walled city wall by the beach. We live inside the wall—or you could say outside, it's not really a distinction. Just remember, on the other side of the wall is the sea, and the sea is a very dangerous place."

Carol nodded, somewhat bewildered.

Liang Di continued, "And our family, and that aunt you met last time, are here to guard the city walls and kill the monsters in the sea. Do you know what monsters are?"

Carol shook her head blankly again, saying, "In the book I read, there's a monster named Tentancle Monsters, it looks really ugly with its claws outstretched, I don't like it."

"That's right, because our mission is to kill these monsters."

"Oh!"

Carol raised her little arm, "Killing those monsters, I love that kind of thing! I think it's so cool! Just like when Mama practices swordsmanship, I especially love watching Mama practice swordsmanship! I want to be like Mama when I grow up, wielding a sword! A really good one, the most powerful swordsman!"

Oh my.

No wonder she's my daughter, she's ambitious.

Liang Lin instantly raised her chin, becoming proud.

“Okay, when you’re seven or eight, your Mama will teach you swordsmanship,” Liang Di gently stroked Carol’s round little head. “You will definitely become a great swordsman in the future. Your Mama and I both believe in you.”

Liang Di continued, rambling on and on, until Liang Lin’s eyelids started to droop. Carol, in her arms, showed no signs of sleepiness.

“Sister Liang Lin, if you’re sleepy, you should go to sleep first. I’m not sleepy yet. I can watch over Carol, and after she falls asleep, I’ll cover her with a blanket before I go to sleep.”

Liang Lin didn’t stand reluctant with Liang Di; she was truly too sleepy to stay awake any longer.

“Okay, then I’ll go to sleep first.”

With that, she closed her eyes and fell asleep instantly.

After Liang Di confirmed that Liang Lin was truly asleep, she took a breath, leaned close to Carol, and kissed her. "Carol, you're such a good daughter. Next time, you should say the same thing to your Mama, and beg her to let the three of us have more time together."

"It can't all be just the three of us. Carol, my good daughter, Mommy knows you're the smartest. You'll definitely find a way to let your Mama and Mommy have a date alone, right? Hmm… if you can do that, then next week I'll buy you an unsharpened longsword for you to play with, how about that?"

Liang Di was actually trying to bribe Carol.

Carol's eyes lit up instantly, and her voice rose considerably.

"Okay! Mommy, It's a deal!"

"Shh!"

"Shh shh shh!"

This sudden shout startled Liang Di, and she quickly covered her daughter's mouth.
