V3: Chapter 14: Is She Really Pregnant?
Liang Lin chattered on and on, her face flushed and neck red, gulping down several mouthfuls of water.
As the party drew to a close, the commoners held a solemn blessing ceremony.
"It's really strange, they have so many blessing ceremonies," Carol whispered.
Liang Lin glanced at her. "Probably because everyone hopes their future will be better."
The commoners, holding flowers and candles, gathered around the campfire, closing their eyes and silently praying.
Some prayed for their families' peace and health, some prayed for favorable weather and abundant harvests in the coming year, and others prayed for world peace and love among humanity. Everyone's heart was filled with longing and pursuit of a better life. During the blessing ceremony, the campfire seemed to shine even brighter, as if carrying everyone's hopes and dreams, flying towards the stars in the night sky.
After the blessing ceremony ended, the commoners did not immediately disperse.
They sat around the campfire, continuing to enjoy this rare moment of togetherness. Looking up at the starry sky, they saw countless stars and the Milky Way stretching across the heavens.
Liang Lin also sat on the ground, hugging her knees; not wearing her formal attire made sitting more convenient.
Carol and Alice went to play with other children, leaving Liang Lin happy for the peace and quiet. She gazed at the starry sky, lost in thought, muttering something to herself.
Liang Di looked at Liang Lin beside her, took two steps closer, and leaned in.
"Sister Liang Lin."
"Mm."
Liang Di gently rested her head on Liang Lin's shoulder, also gazing at the starry sky, lost in thought.
The surroundings quieted down. It was winter now; in summer, there would probably be fireflies and other small, unidentified insects.
The wind was a bit chilly, and Liang Lin instinctively pulled her cotton-padded coat tighter. She looked at Liang Di beside her.
"Liang Di, you seem to be wearing a little too little. Aren't you cold? If you are, then... come into my arms."
Liang Di initially wanted to shake her head and say she wasn't cold, but after hearing the last sentence, she immediately swallowed the "not cold" that was on the tip of her tongue.
"Yeah~ It really is quite cold today. I feel like I have goosebumps."
Liang Di playfully stuck out her little tongue.
The most important thing in life is to be flexible. If there's a benefit, why not take it? Hugging Liang Lin in public gives me a feeling of showing off our love to others, and that feeling is fantastic!
Without saying a word, before Liang Lin could even open her arms, Liang Di snuggled into her embrace.
The two girls pressed tightly together.
"Liang Lin, you're so warm..."
Liang Di rested her head against Liang Lin's chest, feeling the warmth of her skin and the rhythm of her heartbeat. Liang Lin's cotton-padded coat was very large. She opened it and wrapped Liang Di inside.
"Mmm."
Liang Di felt happiness once again.
Indeed, she could only feel happy when she was with Liang Lin.
Time passed by, and night fell completely.
It was time to go back.
Just as Liang Lin was about to pull Liang Di up, Liang Di gagged again.
"Uh."
She wiped her lips; this time, nothing came up.
"I feel a little unwell today, probably because I traveled too much and ate too much," Liang Di explained.
Carol, holding Alice's little hand, came to Liang Lin and Liang Di.
"Why has Mommy been gagging all day? I read in a book that only pregnant women experience constant nausea. Is Mommy pregnant?"
Carol, being young and careless, blurted out the question loudly.
A brief silence ensued.
"Carol, don't talk nonsense!"
Liang Lin's expression darkened. She immediately covered her daughter's mouth. "We're outside, not at home. Some things..."
She trailed off.
The surrounding civilians heard her. Some began to whisper, and a civilian doctor raised their hand, volunteering to examine Liang Di to check for any illnesses.
"No need," Liang Di waved her hand. "I'm just tired. My health isn't very good to begin with. I even had to use a wheelchair for a while, as everyone knows. Today I walked such a long way, and the food you all cooked was so delicious that I ate too much and my stomach is upset, so I nauseated."
Actually, when Carol uttered the word "pregnant," Liang Di sensed something was wrong.
Pregnancy does cause nausea, and she had indeed felt unwell that day, experiencing frequent nausea and dry heaving.
It really might be pregnancy.
This couldn't be discovered by others.
Although Liang Di always insisted on letting everyone know about her relationship with Liang Lin, at this crucial moment, her instinct was to keep it a secret. Two girls, nominally sisters, and yet one was pregnant—it was hard to explain, really hard to explain.
"It's so late, we should go back to the manor. We'll have the royal doctor come to check on us tomorrow, so don't worry," Liang Di reassured everyone, pulling Liang Lin's hand and leading her towards the carriage.
Hilary and Octaville exchanged a glance, then stood up as well.
"Liang Lin, Liang Di, we'll go with you to the Langwendi manor."
The expressions on the four faces were quite complicated, but Carol and Alice seemed rather happy.
"Alice, you can stay at my house tonight! Yay! We might be able to play all night long. Let me think, what games should we play..."
Kids, they're so carefree.
The two little ones, hand in hand, were the first to board the carriage. The four adults followed closely behind. Liang Lin and Liang Di got into one carriage, while Hilary, Octaville, got into another carriage with Carol and Alice.
We needed to give Liang Lin and Liang Di some private space; they were probably feeling quite flustered right now.
Sure enough.
After the carriage started moving, Liang Lin immediately asked Liang Di, "Liang Di, are you... really not feeling well, or... that?"
Liang Di slowly raised her hand and touched her lower abdomen, her expression a mixture of excitement, anticipation, and a hint of seriousness.
"I'm not entirely sure, but I think... it's possible, very possible, that I'm really pregnant."
"Hiss~"
Liang Lin gasped.
"We haven't even been intimate many times, have we? So, is the fifty percent probability really that high?"
