V3: Chapter 31: What's a Good Name for a New Baby?
The room was quiet and dimly lit; not a single candle was lit.
Liang Lin and Liang Di lay on the bed, Liang Di at the innermost position, Liang Lin at the outermost. Liang Di lay flat on the bed, while Liang Lin had her arm around Liang Di's shoulder, probably because she was afraid of pressing on Liang Di's stomach.
Knock knock knock!
The knocking on the door was loud.
Liang Lin, still sleepy, opened her eyes and found that it was still pitch black; it wasn't dawn yet.
Who is it? Knocking on the door before dawn.
Liang Lin and Liang Di instantly became alert.
Then, Laura's voice came from outside the door.
"Miss Liang Lin, Miss Liang Di. It's me. Laura."
Hearing this familiar voice, Liang Lin and Liang Di's tense feelings finally relaxed.
"What is it, Laura?"
Liang Lin threw back the covers, got out of bed, and opened the door.
Laura's expression was still calm, but Liang Lin felt that the person in front of her was no longer the innocent Laura she once knew. There was a strange aura about her.
Laura entered the room.
"Miss Liang Lin, Miss Liang Di..."
Her voice grew softer and softer.
"I feel like I am something extremely crucial."
Huh?
Liang Lin didn't understand what the other person meant.
"What do you mean by 'crucial'? You're a person, what do you mean by 'something'?" Liang Lin asked
Liang Di's expression instantly turned serious.
"Laura, answer it."
Laura lowered her eyes.
"I think... I remembered something, but I can't remember the specifics, only a part, vaguely. But I'm sure it wasn't a dream, it was real."
"Maybe, I'm the key to dealing with the sea monster."
Liang Di stared at Laura's face.
"Continue, describe it to me."
Laura looked up, thinking for a moment.
"Specifically... I still can't quite remember."
After saying this, she looked at Liang Di.
"Uh."
Laura finally became hesitant again. She nervously twisted her fingers, lowered her head, and stammered.
“I... I’m telling the truth, Miss Liang Lin, Miss Liang Di. I… I really didn’t lie, please, please believe me.”
Liang Di smiled gently.
“No, I don’t think you’re lying, I believe you, but, let’s talk about the specifics when you fully remember. I’ll tell Octaville about this. Spend more time with her these days, um…Gladys too. Go to the Magic Tower more often; we’re both fine at home.”
“Okay.”
Laura nodded.
Days passed peacefully, and soon it was Liang Di’s eighth month of pregnancy.
Her belly was already quite round.
“It should be soon.”
Liang Lin carefully supported Liang Di.
What a strange feeling this was!
Liang Lin didn’t know, but she felt her maternal love overflowing once again.
Carol was also eagerly anticipating her sister’s birth, wanting to be the first to hold her.
"I have to be the first person my sister sees!"
Carol raised her little fist.
Her eighth birthday was coming up soon.
"Let's think of a name for the unborn child."
"Name..."
Liang Lin sat on the sofa, deep in thought, as if pondering a profound question. Carol, just like her Mama, had her brows furrowed tightly, also deep in thought.
It's just thinking of a name, but it's being treated like a very serious matter.
"What should we call her?"
"Call her, call her..."
Carol's rosy little face was filled with melancholy.
"Call her Cassie!"
Liang Lin: "..."
She felt that adding "Cassie" would make the name sound really strange.
Liang Di covered her face.
"Forget it, let's wait for Hilary and Octaville to come up with the name. You two shouldn't even think about it."
Liang Lin, however, looked very unconvinced.
"So what?"
"Isn't the name I gave Carol nice?"
Liang Di looked at Carol.
Carol: "I think the name Mama gave me is quite nice."
"....."
Liang Di felt that Liang Lin probably used all her brain cells when naming Carol.
Meanwhile.
Inside the Magic Tower.
"Should we open it now?"
Octaville looked at Prescott with a solemn expression, while Prescott looked at Laura.
"Laura, are you sure you want to open it?"
Laura's expression grew even heavier. She hesitated, but finally nodded.
Laura's hand rested on the box.
The box slowly opened, accompanied by a dull, ancient creak, like a thousand-year-old seal being quietly broken.
The air seemed to freeze at that moment, the surrounding temperature plummeted, and a chilling aura emanated from the box, penetrating to the heart.
Inside the box was not the expected treasure or precious artifact, but pitch blackness, like the mouth of an abyss, swallowing all the surrounding light.
Then, from the endless darkness, a blurry shadow slowly rose, its form twisted and contorted, like a nightmare torn apart by an invisible hand, emanating a chilling aura.
As the shadow gradually became clearer, the surrounding air began to vibrate, low whispers and wails mingling, like countless ghosts murmuring secrets and despair in one's ear.
A thin layer of black liquid began to seep from the edge of the box, like putrid blood, slowly flowing, filling the air with a suffocating stench.
Even more horrifying, distorted faces gradually emerged from the shadow, some crying, some laughing, their eyes empty and desperate—probably vengeful spirits imprisoned here, never to be released.
The moment the box opened, these faces seemed to find an outlet, looking around, searching for a soul to cling to.
The entire room was enveloped in terror, making even breathing difficult. It felt as if each breath sucked in resentment, driving everyone to desperately want to escape this cursed space.
This seemingly ordinary container had become a gateway between reality and an abyss of horror, filling hearts with despair and overwhelming, indescribable fear that surged forth like a tidal wave, swallowing everything.
“Laura! Close the box!”
Octaville was the first to break free from her fear. She took a few steps forward, intending to press down on the box.
But the next second, Laura's eyes glazed over as she held the box high in the air.
Swirls appeared in her eyes. These vortexes were different from the ones Octaville had seen from Liang Di.
“No… we can’t close the box.... If we close it now, it’ll all be for nothing.”
