V3: Chapter 35: Going Into Labor
“Why didn’t you tell me about this?”
Liang Di sighed. She knew in her heart that everyone was keeping it from her for her own good, but how could someone as clever and perceptive as her not notice the unusual behavior around her and everyone else?
Letting her guess would only make her more anxious and upset.
“How serious are her injuries?”
Gladys rubbed her hands nervously. “Not particularly serious. She doesn’t look injured, but it seems her mental state has been affected. She’s lying unconscious in bed now. Hmm… the Tower Master said she doesn’t want to wake up; she seems to be trapped in some kind of dream.”
“Hmm…”
Liang Di nodded.
She touched her stomach.
She decided not to go to the Magic Tower yet. Going there would only cause trouble, and everyone would just take better care of her. It would be pointless; she couldn’t solve Laura’s coma anyway. She had to wait until after giving birth, when she was free of burdens, before she could help the Magic Tower.
“Okay, I understand. I’ll go to the Magic Tower to check on Laura after I give birth.”
Gladys went to the back room, leaving only Liang Lin and Liang Di inside.
At first, Liang Lin didn’t notice anything wrong with Liang Di; she was engrossed in her book. Until Liang Di sighed softly.
Liang Lin lifted her face from the book.
“What’s wrong? Why are you sighing?”
Liang Di looked somewhat melancholy. She sat in a chair, gazing out the window.
“Sister Liang Lin, I remember you said before that you didn’t want a second child. At the time, I thought I could take good care of this child, but now it seems it’s not so easy.”
Liang Di recalled what Gladys had just said.
"It's all so turbulent. If this child is born, I probably won't have much time to spend with her. That's unfair to the child. I didn't spend much time with Carol when she was born, and I won't be able to spend much time with this child either. I'm a negligent mother."
Liang Lin had considered these words from Liang Di beforehand, which was why she was so reluctant to have a child. But now that it's happened, she couldn't just let the child disappear.
Liang Lin wasn't good at comforting people, but she still racked her brains for words of comfort.
"Liang Di, thinking about this now is useless. The baby is about to be born, so don't be too sentimental. Maybe things will be resolved soon? Even if they aren't, we can make the most of our time to be with the children. That's our wish too, isn't it? Being with children is also a source of happiness."
Liang Lin felt incredibly emotionally intelligent, incredibly capable, and incredibly eloquent. After saying these words, she felt completely exhausted; she had never comforted anyone like this before.
"Yes, I know, Sister Liang Lin."
Liang Di stood up from her chair and walked over to Liang Lin, sitting down on the soft sofa next to her. She nestled into the sofa and rested her head on Liang Lin's shoulder.
"But, I feel like I was a bit impulsive before, and I regret it a little, getting pregnant and having a child now."
What's the use of regret? You were the one who wanted to have the child, and now you're the one who regrets it. Since you made the decision, don't regret it.
Liang Lin wanted to say it directly, but she thought it would be too direct and might hurt Liang Di's feelings.
"It's okay, I'm here. We're... family."
Liang Lin remembered what Liang Di had said before; she felt that the other person must crave the presence of family.
Sure enough, after hearing this, a warm smile finally appeared on Liang Di's melancholy face.
"Mmm!"
She hugged Liang Lin's arm tightly.
"We're family, that's so nice, Sister Liang Lin. It feels so good to have family."
"Carol, don't run around like that, be careful not to bump into your Mommy."
Liang Lin grabbed Carol's ear.
"There are only about five days left until the due date, so be careful lately."
Carol seemed a little excited, staring longingly at Liang Di's belly.
"Wow, I'm about to see my little sister! I wonder what she'll look like. Will she look exactly like me? That would be amazing! Can she go to school in my place later?"
"?"
"Carol, you haven't even started school yet, and you're already thinking about skipping class."
Liang Lin was a little amused. "I haven't even put any pressure on you, and you're already thinking about skipping school. I wonder how much you'll cry and throw a tantrum when I finally send you to school."
"Hehe~"
Carol stuck out her tongue shyly.
"You and your sister are so far apart, almost eight years apart! That means when you're eighteen, she'll only be ten. Your heights will definitely differ significantly. How can she go to school in your place? Use your little brain and think about it carefully."
Liang Lin gently tapped Carol's head, lecturing her with utmost seriousness.
"Studying means studying properly. Don't think about those crooked things. Study hard when you're studying, and relax properly when you're relaxing. Otherwise, if you keep switching between studying and playing, you won't learn anything well, and you won't enjoy playing either."
"Oh..."
Carol rubbed her head, drawing out her words, muttering to herself, expressing her dissatisfaction with her mother, "Hmph, lecturing me again. I was just joking..."
Liang Lin, of course, knew her daughter was joking. She smiled and rubbed Carol's head, about to say something, when she heard a gasp from Liang Di's direction.
"Sister Liang Lin! I! I! I feel like something's not right!"
Liang Lin and Carol immediately became alert. Their eyes widened, and they rushed towards Liangdi, almost tripping over the edge of the carpet.
"Liang Di! How are you feeling? Do you feel like you're about to give birth? Or, or what's wrong? Is something uncomfortable?"
Liang Lin stammered, looking at Liang Di anxiously, her hands moving erratically, sometimes lowering, sometimes raising.
Liang Di looked pained, fine beads of sweat on her forehead, her hands pressed against her stomach.
"I feel... like I'm about to give birth."
Liang Lin didn't know anything about this. When she was pregnant and gave birth, she wasn't carrying a human infant, but a tentacle infant. Tentacle babies are small and easily born on their own, but the birthing process for human infants is definitely more complicated.
Of course, the doctors were already prepared. They'd been staying at the Langwendi family mansion for the past two days, ready to deliver Liang Di's baby at any moment.
Seeing the situation, Liang Lin immediately ran outside, calling for the doctors as she went.
Carol tried to run after her, but she wasn't tall enough, and her legs weren't long enough. In her haste, she tripped and fell. By the time she got up, Liang Lin had already called the doctors, and a group of them were rushing over.
"Carol, don't sleep on the floor, it's cold."
Seeing Carol sitting on the floor, Liang Lin knew she had fallen, so she casually offered a word of concern before leading the doctors into the room.
Carol: "....."
It would have been better if you hadn't shown any concern at all.
"I want to go in too!"
Carol shouted from outside the door.
Liang Lin only opened the door a crack. "Don't come in, don't make things worse."
Carol wanted to plead for something.
"When your little sister is born, I'll show her to you first. Wait outside for a bit, okay, okay?"
With that, Liang Lin closed the door.
Carol stared blankly at the closed door, but then she remembered her mother's words—"When your little sister is born, I'll show her to you first"—and she felt reassured; she could wait outside.
