V3: Chapter 36: The Wrinkled Second Daughter
Carol felt a little sad.
"Sigh, how much longer?"
She sighed, silently squatting on the floor, her fingers twirling and drawing circles on the floor.
She wondered how her Mommy was doing in the room.
Childbirth must be very painful, otherwise why would Mama have said she didn't want Mommy to have a child?
Carol's thoughts wandered.
Hmm!
Then, Mama must have been in a lot of pain when she was pregnant with me!
Thinking this, Carol felt a tiny bit of guilt. She felt she had been too naughty lately, always making her Mama and Mommy angry. They had already suffered so much, their pregnancy was so painful, how could she always make them angry? She was such a bad child.
Hmm!
Carol clenched her little fists, cheering herself up, secretly vowing that she would be better behaved from now on, treat Mama and Mommy well, be filial to them, and stop making them angry.
"I'll tell Mama and Mommy about this idea later; they'll be so happy!"
After waiting for about a minute or two, Carol was still restless, so she squatted down against the corner of the wall, rubbing against it like a panda with an itchy back.
There was no sound from inside the room, and Carol felt uneasy. Her mind started imagining various scenarios of her Mommy fainting from pain.
Thinking about it, she felt she couldn't stay in the room to cheer her Mommy up, nor could she hold her hand to comfort her.
I'm such an unfilial child!
"Waaah~"
Tears welled up in her eyes, and she sniffled a few times.
Uh.
She'd been squatting for too long; her knees were a little numb.
Carol tried to stand up, and just as she straightened her knees a little, she heard a sound from the door.
Click~
The door opened.
Liang Lin's joyful voice came from inside.
"Carol! Come in, your little sister's born!"
Huh?
Carol was stunned for a moment.
So fast? It feels like less than ten minutes have passed! She's already born?
"Born? She's born, she's born already?!"
Carol said, walking towards the door.
She'd been reading a lot of novels lately, and the heroines in them all had incredibly painful childbirth experiences, screaming loudly, and some even died during pregnancy or childbirth.
Thinking about this, Carol couldn't help but feel afraid.
"Mama, no one died, right?"
She blurted out.
Liang Lin paused, then, with an annoyed expression, slapped Carol on the back of the head.
Smack!
"Ouch!"
"This unlucky child, what are you saying all day? No one's had an accident. Don't say such unpleasant things."
Carol felt like she'd probably gone mad.
After entering the room, Carol didn't immediately look for her sister. Instead, she glanced at the bedside. When she found Liang Di lying peacefully on the bed with a happy smile, she looked around hopefully for the small figure.
"Where's my sister? Where did my sister go?"
Liang Lin pointed to a small bed nearby.
"Your sister is over there, but... don't get your hopes up too high."
Don't get my hopes up too high?
Carol was completely confused by this, a bad feeling rising in her heart.
"No, it can't be a brother, it's not a sister, can it?"
She stammered, her steps stiff as she moved towards the small bed.
Liang Lin laughed.
"What brother? It's a sister, don't worry."
Hearing this, Carol's heart finally relaxed, and she ran to the bedside.
At this moment, Liang Lin finally finished her sentence, "Just don't have too high hopes. Like hoping that your little sister so cute or so incredibly cute."
"Oh, it's okay. Even if she's not cute, how uncute can she be? Any little sister will do. How uncut can my little sister be?"
Just as Carol finished speaking, she saw her little sister's face in the crib.
"Uh."
"So ugly."
Those two words slipped out.
Liang Lin also leaned closer, stroking her chin, staring at the child on the bed.
"Yeah, that's true. That was my first reaction too. She has a... feeling of perfectly inheriting all of Liang Di's and my flaws."
Just now, when Carol was outside the door, and Liang Di and Liang Lin were inside, Liang Lin watched the busy doctor and Liang Di's slightly pained expression. She stood there helplessly, not knowing what to do.
When the doctor delivered Liang Di's baby, Liang Lin didn't want to stay put. She went over and knelt beside Liang Di, wanting to whisper something to comfort her, but she was tongue-tied. So, she simply offered her hand to Liang Di.
"Liang Di, Liang Di, does it hurt a lot? If you feel a lot of pain, you should..."
Before she could finish speaking, the baby was born. Very smoothly, just like when she gave birth to Little Tentacle.
"Congratulations, Miss Liang Lin, Miss Liang Di, it's a beautiful little girl!"
The doctor smiled broadly and showed the baby to Liang Lin and Liang Di.
Before Liang Di could say anything, Liang Lin blurted out, "So ugly! Why is her face all wrinkled? It looks like the baby's face hasn't fully developed."
Although it was said with disdain, there was no disgust in her tone; on the contrary, it was very affectionate and joyful.
Liang Lin was right; newborn babies do have wrinkled faces and swollen eyes, not very endearing, and their cries are quite annoying.
Back to the present.
Although Liang Di had just given birth and was weak, she couldn't help but laugh and scold the two of them after hearing this.
"All newborns are like this, their faces are wrinkled, and they can't open their eyes yet. They're human infants, after all. It will get better after a while, and they'll become normal, cute babies."
"Oh!"
Carol became excited again, "Then, she'll become especially cute later? Like a little pet?"
Although the analogy was a bit strange, Liang Di nodded.
"She'll change, don't worry, she won't be wrinkled like this anymore."
The little one had calmed down now, breathing evenly, wrapped in a small blanket.
"Hmm... you know, after looking at it for a while, she really is quite cute."
Carol cautiously raised a hand, looked at Liang Lin, then at Liang Di.
"Then, can I poke my little sister's face? Just once, and if... if not, I can wash my hands before I poke her!"
