V1: Chapter 60: Sorry, I'm One-Punch Man
Ah, what a reassuring environment.
Liang Lin didn't know where this inexplicable sense of peace came from. She randomly found a seat at the bar and plopped down.
"Boss, two large glasses of barley wine, please."
Liang Lin gestured to her chest; the glass was probably bigger than her face.
"Oh, a lady here, a rare guest indeed."
The boss said, but his hands didn't stop moving. He didn't make any lewd jokes about Liang Lin.
You see, the female patrons who come to underground bars late at night are rarely easy to mess with. Well-behaved girls from good families are already fast asleep in bed at this hour. Only those "female hooligans" would come to such a mixed place as the underground blood vessels at this time.
A glass of barley wine was placed in front of Liang Lin. She grabbed the saucer and gulped down several large mouthfuls. Because her mouth was too small and the glass too wide, much of the wine dripped down her chin and onto her legs.
"Gulp."
"Haa~"
Thump!
Liang Lin put down the glass and let out a cheerful shout. She raised her arm and wiped the wine from her chin with her sleeve.
After a couple of sips, feeling relaxed, Liang Lin crossed her legs and began to observe the commotion around her.
A circle of people had gathered at the edge. Liang Lin jumped off her chair, trying to see what was happening inside, but because she was much shorter than the men, she couldn't see anything clearly.
The noisy people around her were busy with their own things and no one paid her any attention. So, Liang Lin simply stood on a chair, looking down at the group of people.
Inside, two burly men, shirtless, were locked in a passionate struggle, sweat pouring down their faces, their muscles clashing—it looked rather philosophical.
"With just brute force, those two wouldn't stand a chance even after fighting for ages."
Liang Lin glanced at them, then sat back down, not caring how dirty the chair was. She used the black robe beneath her to wipe the mud off the stool.
"Oh? Miss, you know quite a bit."
The owner was wiping glasses nearby.
Liang Lin didn't pretend or feign modesty. "Yes, in this tavern, no one can beat me. No, I should say, in the Soteland Empire, I'm one of the top fighting geniuses."
"Hahahaha~"
The owner let out a hearty laugh.
He was a middle-aged man with graying hair and beard, looking to be in his fifties. He was quite handsome, neither too thin nor too fat, just right, except that his eyes were sunken and bulging, giving him a strangely unsettling appearance.
Liang Lin had already downed more than half a glass of barley wine. The owner brought her another glass, then gave her a thumbs-up.
"Good drinking capacity!"
The fireplace in the distance emitted a warm glow, the wood crackling and popping as it burned.
Liang Lin stared at the firelight, lost in thought, recalling the two burly men's hand-to-hand combat, which pulled her thoughts back to the days of leading her troops in battle.
Those old guys, to tease her, called her "Little Marquis" or "Little General." And rightly so.
She first led troops at the age of 14, standing only 175 cm tall, appearing so small compared to those tall, strong men.
But no one disrespected her. The strong, regardless of their appearance, are always respected.
After downing a glass of barley wine, Liang Lin started on her second.
"Boss, I can take down both of them in one move!"
Perhaps she was a little tipsy, Liang Lin pointed at the group of people and loudly proclaimed to the boss beside her.
"Oh?"
The boss stroked his thick beard with interest.
Meanwhile, others around them heard Liang Lin's boast and turned around, their gazes falling on the petite and adorable Liang Lin, drawn by the arrogant shout.
"Hahaha~"
"Hahahaha~"
"What is that strawberry cake girl saying?"
"She said she can take down Terence and Benson in one move."
"Oh my god, what an adorable comment..."
Laughter erupted from the crowd, but Liang Lin wasn't annoyed; she even laughed along. She jumped off her chair again, put her hands behind her back, and pushed her way through the group.
"Uh, what are your names, Screw and Half-Body?"
Because of the noise earlier, Liang Lin hadn't heard their names clearly and just made up some. Her comment only made the laughter around her grow louder.
Terrence and Benson stopped their fight, stared at each other, and finally fixed their gaze on Liang Lin, bursting into laughter.
"Hahahaha~ She called you Screw!"
"Hahahaha, you're no better! Half-Body! Hahaha~"
"..."
Terrence, still laughing, said to Liang Lin,
"Miss, my name is Terrence, and his name is Benson. If you called me to ask me out, please wait a moment. After I've taught this guy named 'Half-Body' a lesson, I'll go on a date with you." "
Liang Lin: "..."
"You're overthinking it. I'm not particularly hungry, reduced to eating scraps."
The wicked young lady was as sharp-tongued as ever, her face full of disgust.
Terrence wasn't angry at all, just chuckling.
"Well, miss, if you're not here for a date, then just stand aside and watch the show. Don't disturb my fight with Benson."
Liang Lin pointed to the owner behind her.
"Look, the owner and I made a bet. I can take you both down in one move."
The world suddenly went silent.
Then, thunderous laughter erupted throughout the underground tavern.
Some people even laughed so hard they fell off their chairs, clutching their stomachs and rolling on the floor.
Benson also laughed, his voice unusually naive, "Miss, if you can take me down in one move, I'll cover all your drinking expenses for the year."
"No need, I have plenty of money."
Liang Lin pulled a handful of Vitcoins from her pocket and tossed them onto the table.
"I'm in a bad mood today, so I came here to have some fun. These Vitcoins... consider it a treat for drinks."
While some people around her were scrambling for the Vitacoins, Liang Lin spread her legs.
"You two, are you ready?"
"Wh...? Uh!"
Thump!
Thump!
Damn, a double whammy.
Terrence, looking pained, clutched his chest, slumped to the ground, drool hanging from his lips, his body trembling.
Benson, on the other hand, was completely sprawled on the ground, having just hit his head, his scalp swollen, his vision blurred, disoriented, twitching on the floor.
"Ah, so you two weren't ready, sorry," Liang Lin clapped her hands.
"Then get up again. I'll give you three minutes to prepare."
The tavern fell silent once more.
