Chapter 27: Sometimes, a Girl’s Heart Is More Dangerous Than a Starbeast
Chapter 27: Sometimes, a Girl’s Heart Is More Dangerous Than a Starbeast
Faced with Chen Xing’s sudden declaration, Tendou blinked in confusion.
He still didn’t quite understand what she meant by those words—but after thinking it over for a while, he at least figured out one thing:
Right now, Chen Xing was very angry with him.
Like, really angry.
As for why… Tendou guessed it probably had something to do with the fact that he’d been suppressing her all this time.
After all, if it weren’t for him—the position of “Apex of the Stars” should’ve belonged to her from the start.
With that realization, Tendou put on a serious face and said,
“Xing, I gotta say this—my achievements today are ninety-nine percent talent and one percent—”
“Shut up.”
Before he could finish, Chen Xing’s voice cut in coldly.
Her crimson eyes suddenly glowed with blood-red light, her gaze shifting from resentment to fury.
“Tendou… Even now, you still think I’ve just been desperately chasing after you?”
“...Huh?”
Tendou stared at her blankly, completely lost.
He had no idea what she was talking about.
And before he could even ask, a voice came out of nowhere—Caroline’s.
“Idiot.”
Tendou turned toward her.
She was pretending to focus on her tactical tablet, tapping away with an expression of pure seriousness… but her cat ears—usually drooping—had perked straight up.
Which, Tendou knew, only happened when Caroline was feeling guilty.
“Caroline,” he grumbled, “what’s the deal? Why’d you suddenly call me an idiot?”
But Caroline, realizing she’d already exposed herself, simply acted like she hadn’t heard a thing—burying her face even deeper into her “work.”
Tendou could only sigh.
Seriously?
What was this, some secret little group chat behind his back?
Why was he the only one who had no idea what they were talking about?
Out of nowhere, a memory surfaced.
Something Tachibana once told him:
“Tendou-kun, sometimes a girl’s heart can be more dangerous than a Starbeast’s.”
Back then, he didn’t get it.
But now—oh, he definitely understood.
Because compared to a girl’s heart, a Starbeast was easy mode!
Realizing that, Tendou just gave up trying to understand.
If he couldn’t figure it out, then fine—he wouldn’t!
“Xing,” he said, throwing up his hands, “enough talking. If you wanna fight, then fight. If not, I’m heading to the cafeteria. Don’t waste my time.”
Chen Xing didn’t respond—she simply drew her blade.
With a sharp clang, Bloodflame left its sheath.
Her hair whipped wildly in the heat as the flames coiled around the blade, distorting the very air around her.
Far off, Chen Kong instinctively took half a step back, retreating from the blistering wave of heat.
He stared at his sister in shock—as if seeing her for the first time.
Just three days ago, she’d needed blood to ignite her flames.
But now?
Now she no longer needed a single drop.
And thanks to the perfect resonance between her Star Core: Bloodflame and Star Origin: Karmic Flame, even though she’d only obtained this Star Origin a mere three days ago—Chen Xing had already achieved astonishing mastery over it.
She had perfectly fused the new power into her own transcendent framework—her original system now burning brighter than ever.
BOOM!
In the next instant, Chen Xing’s figure turned into a crimson meteor.
She dragged her blade along the ground, crossing the distance to Tendou in a flash, and slashed down.
The swing was so fast that even her afterimage couldn’t keep up.
The ground where her blade passed melted into a deep, glowing trench.
But Tendou—he just smiled, relaxed as ever.
After all, ever since he’d acquired Vector Control, the one type of opponent he feared least was someone like Chen Xing—a close-combat fighter who wielded Natural Type Star Origin.
Both attributes were his perfect counters.
Clang!
Tendou casually raised his right hand.
The instant his fingertip met the edge of Chen Xing’s blade, the raging flames coating the weapon suddenly split apart—as if brushed aside by an invisible hand.
Not only that—Chen Xing herself seemed to be pulled by some unseen, overwhelming force.
Her body twisted off balance, following the redirected trajectory of her blade.
For a moment, it looked like she might crash to the ground—but Chen Xing was, after all, the strongest below Tendou.
Just as most of her body tilted toward the floor, her left hand slammed down to steady herself.
Her right hand followed through in a fluid, spinning motion, Bloodflame slicing out in a sweeping arc aimed right at Tendou’s ankle.
The movement was fast, fierce, and graceful all at once—a perfect counterattack born from instinct.
Tendou only chuckled softly.
With pinpoint precision, his toe struck the back of her blade—and once again, that same twisting effect rippled through her weapon, turning her own power against her.
Chen Xing’s grip faltered; the blade flew free from her hand.
In a normal fight, Tendou could’ve finished it right there—a clean, effortless strike against a now-disarmed opponent.
But because of their prior agreement, he simply stood still and watched as Chen Xing flipped backward, catching the falling blade midair before landing gracefully.
Then, without missing a beat, she lunged again.
Yet despite her determination, the gap between them was like heaven and earth.
Against Tendou’s Vector Control, her twin strengths—close combat and flame—were utterly useless.
Her proudest weapon, the infernal fire that devoured all things, was reduced to nothing before his precise manipulation of forces.
And as for her swordsmanship…
Though Chen Xing’s technique was exceptional, Tendou’s Star-Eclipse Eyes rendered it meaningless.
Those eyes allowed him to predict every movement she would make one full second into the future.
Her Star Origin was countered.
Her stats were surpassed.
Even her technique was read like an open book.
No matter how overwhelming her strength was compared to anyone else—to Tendou, fighting her was actually easier than fighting most opponents.
Because his Vector Control was born to neutralize combatants like Chen Xing—those who fought with blazing, close-range ferocity.
Under such absolute suppression and absolute countering—even though Chen Xing’s power had grown tremendously in these past days—she still couldn’t so much as scratch him.
But in the end—even after three full minutes of relentless assault—Chen Xing still couldn’t force Tendou to take even a single step outside that one-meter-wide circle beneath his feet.
Every time she attacked, he’d simply flick a finger or tilt his wrist, and the flames coating her blade would harmlessly slide away, split apart by invisible vectors.
The force behind her swings? It always rebounded strangely—as if her own strength had turned against her.
But the most terrifying thing of all—was how Tendou responded before she even moved.
Every strike, every feint, every sudden shift in tempo—he was already there, countering it effortlessly.
It felt less like she was fighting him, and more like she was battling a version of herself from the future.
Under such absolute domination, three minutes vanished in the blink of an eye.
“Time’s up.”
From a distance, Caroline’s calm voice rang out, announcing the end of the match.
At her words, Chen Xing abruptly extinguished the flames around her, her face expressionless as she slid the blade back into its sheath.
“Looks like I win again, Xing.”
Tendou smiled, sounding almost proud of himself.
But instead of snapping back at him, instead of flaring up like she always did—Chen Xing said nothing.
She didn’t even glance his way.
She just turned around, silent and composed, and walked out of the training hall.
Leaving Tendou standing there, dumbfounded.
“…Huh?”
He watched her retreating back for a moment, then turned to Caroline.
“Caroline, what’s with her? Did I hit her too hard or something? She’s not even talking to me now?”
Even now, even after all that, Tendou still didn’t get it.
Caroline sighed and finally answered, her tone flat.
“She’s not upset because she lost, you blockhead. She’s upset because she realized there’s no point talking to a piece of wood.”
“???”
Tendou stared at her, completely blank.
And then—Caroline, too, turned and left.
Left alone with two departing “mystery women,” Tendou suddenly felt like his brain just didn’t have the processing power for this level of confusion.
So he looked over at Chen Kong, who was still standing there, equally lost.
“Hey, Kong,” Tendou asked, “do you know what they meant by that?”
Chen Kong thought about it for a moment, then shook his head apologetically.
Tendou sighed. “Useless. You’re just as wooden as I am. How are you supposed to be my brother if you can’t even figure that out?”
And with that final jab, Tendou waved dismissively, ignoring Chen Kong’s bewildered expression—and casually strolled off toward the cafeteria.
Because priorities were priorities.
A man’s gotta eat.
