Chapter 45: The Tsundere Twin-Tails

Chapter 45: The Tsundere Twin-Tails

Afternoon sunlight streamed through the glass doors of Trilan Junior High’s cafeteria, spilling golden light onto the group standing by the entrance.

Unlike the snide attitude he’d shown toward Chen Kong earlier, Dekora chose to keep quiet this time. After all, he hadn’t quite figured out what kind of person Tendou really was yet.

He wasn’t stupid, when you can’t see through someone’s background, you wait and watch.

Still, while Dekora decided to shut up for once, there was one person in this group who would never pass up the chance to steal the spotlight.

“Hey, Kong,” Tendou said with a grin, “I heard you at the door earlier—something about buying drinks for the whole class to make friends, right?”

“Huh?” Chen Kong blinked, caught off guard. “Ah, no, Tendou, that was actually—”

Before he could finish, Tendou cut him off cheerfully.

“Come on, no need to make it so complicated! I’ll handle the drinks for everyone!”

He puffed out his chest like it was the most natural thing in the world.

“Besides, if I remember right, I’m in the same class as you now, aren’t I?”

“That means your classmates are my classmates too!”

He slapped a hand on Chen Kong’s shoulder, all smiles. “Here, take my card. Don’t just stand there—go buy some Blue Tone Mountain City sodas already!”

Without giving him a chance to refuse, Tendou shoved a bank card—one he had borrowed from Tachibana—into Chen Kong’s hand and gave him a solid push toward the counter.

Chen Kong stared down at the card, confused but already guessing Tendou’s intention.

He knew that tone. He knew that grin.

Tendou must’ve overheard what Dekora had said earlier—and that meant, without a doubt, that someone was about to get a little “lesson.”

How could he be so sure?

Because Chen Kong had seen this exact pattern before, back in the Ember Base.

Back then, no matter how nasty those bullies got, the moment Tendou showed up, everything flipped.

He never used brute force—he didn’t need to. Tendou’s mind was too fast, too strange, too dangerous.

Without ever throwing a punch, he could make anyone who tried to bully others regret it deeply.

After a few incidents like that, even the most arrogant kids started avoiding him.

King of the Delinquents—a title Tendou had earned.

Thinking of that, Chen Kong couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for Dekora.

As a Starbearer, Chen Kong had his limits—he wouldn’t stoop to bullying ordinary people.

But Tendou? He didn’t draw that line.

To him, there was no difference between a Starbearer and a regular human being.

At that same moment, Dekora’s unease was fading fast.

He’d thought Tendou might be trouble at first, but now—?

Heh, just another naive countryside kid, he thought. Pretty face, sure, but nothing special beyond that. Easy prey.

Smirking to himself, Dekora leaned back and imagined the moment he’d “tame” this new guy.

And just as he was enjoying his little fantasy—

“Here you go, big guy.”

Dekora snapped back to reality. Tendou stood before him with that infuriatingly pleasant smile, holding out a bottle of Blue Tone Mountain City, frost mist curling off the azure glass.

For a second, Dekora’s bad intentions flickered—but he quickly pushed them down.

After all, he had a “good classmate” persona to maintain.

So, without thinking too hard about it, he reached out to take the chilled bottle from Tendou’s hand.

Just as Dekora reached out his hand—

Pop!

The bottle of Blue Tone Mountain City in Tendou’s hand suddenly exploded.

The plastic cap shot past Dekora’s cheek with a sharp whizz, and a geyser of fizzy blue soda burst out, drenching him from head to toe.

The sticky, bubbling drink instantly turned his carefully styled hair into a soggy mess of seaweed, and the expensive custom-tailored uniform he’d been so proud of was now dripping foam and humiliation.

Chen Kong could only sigh and mutter to himself, “Knew it.”

Because of course—Tendou would never offer drinks out of kindness.

If he was being generous, there was always a reason… and usually, that reason was trouble.

And sure enough, trouble had arrived right on schedule.

Meanwhile, Tendou’s acting reached Oscar-worthy levels.

“Whoa, my bad, man! I didn’t think the drink was that fragile—guess I squeezed too hard, huh? You didn’t die or anything, right?”

Dekora stared at Tendou’s teasing grin, and in that instant, any remaining doubt vanished.

It was definitely on purpose.

Wordlessly, he pulled out a pricey silk handkerchief and wiped the soda off his face, expression dark as a thundercloud.

“You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”

Tendou smirked, utterly unashamed. “Well, duh. You didn’t actually think that was an accident, did you?”

His tone was so casual, so arrogantly dismissive, that it made Dekora’s blood boil.

All his life, he’d been pampered, admired, treated like a young master among the stars—no one ever dared look down on him.

And yet this guy—this nobody—was mocking him to his face!

His right hand curled into a fist, veins bulging on his forehead.

He was one second away from snapping.

But before he could move—

“Dekora. What do you think you’re doing?”

The voice was cold, cutting through the air like a blade of ice.

It froze Dekora in place instantly, and the noisy crowd around them automatically parted to make way.

He turned toward the voice—and his expression stiffened.

A girl stepped forward, heels clicking smartly against the floor.

She had long golden twin-tails, a perfectly composed face, and eyes that could freeze lava.

“M–Miss Isabel…” Dekora stammered.

Isabelle didn’t even glance at him. Her eyes swept over the sticky floor, then landed briefly on him.

“Go back to your dorm,” she said evenly. “If you leave now, I’ll pretend I didn’t see anything. Otherwise, you can explain yourself to the disciplinary committee.”

“B-but…”

He tried to argue, but Isabelle’s gaze sharpened, her eyes narrowing dangerously.

That was enough.

Dekora swallowed his pride, turned, and stormed off—though not before shooting Tendou a venomous glare that clearly said, You just wait.

Tendou didn’t even blink.

In his eyes, Dekora wasn’t a threat—just another clown who didn’t know his own limits.

Once the nuisance was gone, Isabelle gave Tendou and Chen Kong a brief, supposedly indifferent glance.

Then, with a dramatic toss of her golden twin-tails, she strode out of the cafeteria like she owned the place.

Even Tendou had to admit—her poise was impeccable.

That crisp attitude, the confident steps, the faint haughtiness in her tone—she embodied every teenage boy’s image of a “cool, untouchable heroine.”

And judging by the looks around the room, she’d nailed it perfectly.

Even Chen Kong—who’d barely been outside the Ember Base before—was staring at her in open awe.

Tendou noticed immediately and couldn’t resist poking fun.

“Alright, alright, stop staring. She just happened to step in—it’s not like she did it for you, you know?”

Chen Kong blinked, finally snapping out of it.

Chen Kong scratched the back of his head awkwardly, trying to find the right words to explain himself.

But before he could even open his mouth, Tendou spoke up first—his tone full of that usual mischief.

“Actually, this works out perfectly,” he said, eyes lighting up as if he’d just solved a world crisis. “I was wondering how to get you close to her—but now that you’ve had that little ‘beauty saves the hero’ moment, the opportunity practically delivered itself!”

“Huh?” Chen Kong blinked, confused.

Tendou clapped his hands once, like he was assigning a mission.

“Alright, Kong! The crucial task of befriending Isabelle—and sticking close to her from now on—falls to you!”

“Ah??”

“What ‘ah’? You expect us to do it instead?” Tendou arched a brow, feigning indignation. “Think about it! Your sister’s temper, and Caroline’s whole ‘I talk to no one’ personality—if either of them tried, Isabelle would probably end up in more danger, not less!”

“So yeah,” he concluded with mock solemnity, “you’re the only man for the job. Our frontline agent for the Isabelle Connection Mission! Congratulations!”

“B-but, Tendou,” Chen Kong said weakly, “don’t you think you’d be more suited for this kind of thing? I mean, after all—”

Tendou didn’t even let him finish. He plucked a bottle of Blue Tone Mountain City from the drink crate and twisted the cap with a hiss.

“After all, what? I’m not interested in playing the role of some lovesick simp. So it’s settled.”

“???”

Chen Kong stared at him, utterly lost.

Tendou sighed inwardly. He couldn’t help but recall the original story—where this same kid got completely wrapped around Isabelle’s finger.

He patted Chen Kong’s shoulder, his tone suddenly turning uncharacteristically serious.

“Don’t overthink it, Kong. I was just joking.”

Then, with that signature crooked grin, he added,

“And anyway, being a ‘simp’ isn’t always an insult, you know. Some people don’t even have the qualifications to be one.”

“Alright, enough talk. I’ve got to go check in for class.”

He waved his hand breezily and started toward the exit.

“Oh, and about these drinks—bring them to the classroom and hand them out. Just say you bought them, got it? See ya!”

And before Chen Kong could find a way to object, Tendou had already disappeared out the cafeteria doors without a single glance back.

Only after Tendou’s figure had completely vanished did Chen Kong finally mumble to himself, uncertainty all over his face—

“Tendou… is called a ‘simp’... really isn’t an insult…?”
