Chapter 8: Intimate Contact
The silence in Shido's room was so dense that it seemed to weigh considerably on the boy's lungs, mixed with the intoxicating aroma emanating from the charming woman lying on his bed.
Itsuka Shido sat on the very edge of the mattress, his back so rigid he feared his spine would snap. His hands, resting on his thighs, trembled almost imperceptibly.
Beside her, the "Empress of the Crimson Lotus" —Lian— occupied the space with a naturalness that bordered on insulting.
The moonlight filtered through the half-open curtains, bathing her porcelain skin in a silvery hue that made her look like a statue carved from the finest jade.
"Child," Lian's voice broke the air, soft yet laden with an authority that brooked no argument, "your heart pounds against your ribs like a bird trapped in an iron cage. Does the presence of this sovereign terrify you so much, or is it that your mortal blood simply cannot process the nearness of the divine?"
Internally, Li Wei was screaming. "This isn't divinity, it's pure panic, damn it! He's ten centimeters away from one of the sexiest women he's ever seen, and it turns out I'm that woman!"
The college student trapped in the empress's body felt every inch of the silk robe brushing against his sensitive skin, a constant reminder of his new and disturbing anatomy.
Shido swallowed, trying not to turn his head.
"It's not that, Lian. It's just that... in my world, people don't usually sleep together unless... well, unless there's a very deep relationship. It's a matter of personal space."
Lian let out a crystalline laugh, a sound that echoed in Shido's ear. She propped herself up on one elbow, letting her jet-black hair cascade over her shoulder and her robe slip just enough to reveal the curve of her collarbone.
"Personal space?" she repeated mockingly. "You mortals of this realm are fascinating. You surround yourselves with walls, metal, and absurd laws to feel safe, when the only true security lies in strength. I have claimed this place as my temporary territory, and you as my possession. In the hierarchy of the heavens, the personal space of the inferior belongs to the superior by right of existence."
“But I’m not your inferior, Lian,” Shido retorted, gathering his courage and turning to meet her gaze. Her petal-like golden pupils captivated him instantly. “We’re all people. Different, with different powers, but people nonetheless. If you want this world to be your home, even for a short time, you have to understand that respect here isn’t earned through power alone.”
Lian's gaze turned icy for a second, and the temperature in the room rose several degrees. Li Wei felt the Empress's "Killing Intent" trying to manifest, but he suppressed it with a titanic mental effort.
"Calm down, damn it!" Li Wei scolded himself. "Shido's right, you can't go around treating everyone like insects you can play with or squash at will!"
"Hmm? Yes, it's true that it's a waste of time."
«¿Hu?»
Li wei felt a chill as he felt the strange sensation of having answered himself...but when his lips began to move, those thoughts vanished, focusing instead on whatever nonsense came out of his mouth.
"Respect..." Lian whispered, her expression softening in a way Shido hadn't expected. "It's a word I haven't heard in ages without the trace of fear lurking beneath it. In the Jade Realms, respect is the shadow cast by the sword. But you... you speak to me with a purity that shouldn't exist in someone who carries the essence of so many powerful beings."
Lian reached out and, before Shido could react, grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
—Huh!?
With a gasp of astonishment, Shido fell back onto the blankets. In the blink of an eye, Lian shifted, positioning herself above him, though without putting her full weight on him. Her face was inches from his, and the heat emanating from her body was like that of a burning ember.
“Tell me, Shido,” she said, her voice now a sensual whisper that made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. “Why do you strive so hard? I’ve seen an interesting determination and purpose in your eyes, and you seem to have sealed powers beyond your grasp with a strange strength I can barely perceive. It seems you’ve risked your life for creatures that could have reduced your city to ashes with a yawn. Is it out of duty, or is your heart so vast that it can’t distinguish between an ally and a calamity?”
Shido felt the weight of Lian's enormous breasts gently pressing against his chest, and the scent of sandalwood was now so strong that it made him dizzy.
He tried to focus his mind on the mission, on Kotori's words that must be being shouted right now through the earpiece that Lian had forced him to take off and leave on the bedside table.
“I don’t see them as calamities,” Shido managed to say, his voice breaking. “I see them as girls who are alone. As people who received power they didn’t ask for and whom the world hates for it. You say you’re an empress, that you come from a world of gods and cultivators… but here, you’re alone. And I can’t let anyone be alone if I can prevent it.”
Li Wei felt a pang of guilt in her conscience. "This guy is too good. He's practically the typical Shonen protagonist just because of his determination, and here I am playing the seductive villainess because my body has yandere instincts."
Lian remained motionless, observing Shido with an almost childlike curiosity beneath the mask of the sovereign. Slowly, she lowered her head and rested her cheek against the boy's chest, wrapping an arm and a leg around his waist, trapping him in a possessive embrace that cut off any possibility of escape.
"Then stay like this," she ordered, closing her eyes. "Don't try to flee. My essence is agitated. This world is so poor in Qi that my spiritual veins are starved. Your presence... the power you hold within is like a spring of refined energy. Let me feed on your calm."
Shido felt the tension leave Lian's body, becoming heavy and warm upon him.
It was a sensual embrace, yes, charged with an overwhelming femininity that defied all his survival instincts, but there was also something vulnerable in the way she clung to him. As if, despite all his arrogance, she was afraid that if she let go, he would vanish back into that void from which he came.
"Okay, Lian," Shido whispered, shyly putting his arms around the woman's shoulders. "I'll stay here."

Thousands of meters above them, on the bridge of the Fraxinus, the atmosphere was one of utter frustration. Kotori Itsuka pounded the armrest of her throne with rhythmic fury, while the screens displayed a static image of Shido's room.
Lian, with a dismissive gesture, had created a small spatial distortion around the bedside table, blocking any audio signal from Shido's earphone.
"That damn woman!" Kotori growled. "She knows exactly what she's doing. She's isolating Shido."
"Reiyoku's sensors indicate that Empress is entering a state of deep meditation," Reine reported, without taking her eyes off her tablet. "She's using Shido as a biological 'anchor.' Her energy is synchronizing with his at an alarming rate. If this continues, the bond they form will be far stronger than that of any other Spirit."
"A bond?" Kannazuki asked with a dreamy smile. "Do you mean a bond of soul and body? Oh, how envious I am! Shido is being claimed by an empress while we can only watch from the shadows. It's the climax of a romantic epic!"
Kotori gave him a look that could have melted steel.
—Kannazuki, if you open your mouth again for anything other than a technical report, I'll throw you into outer space without a suit.
—Yes, Commander! It would be an honor to be ejected by your hand!
Reine intervened before Kotori completely lost it.
—There's more. The twelve "Spectral Maidens" that Empress left outside the house... they aren't simply standing guard. It's believed that any DEM or AST unit that attempts to approach within a 500-meter radius will be met with fierce retaliation from these "Quasi-spirits." Empress has turned the Itsuka residence into an uncontrolled, low-level territory, and she doesn't appear likely to allow any intrusion.
Kotori sighed, rubbing her temples.
—In other words, Shido is on his own. We can't intervene without risking Lian destroying half the city in retaliation. All we can do is monitor his vital signs... and hope Shido doesn't forget that his goal is to seal her away.

Back in the room, the night was slowly passing.
Despite the extremely compromising position and the stifling heat, Shido had begun to relax. Lian's breathing was slow and melodious, and for a moment, he allowed himself to observe the face of the woman who held him captive.
She was perfect. Too perfect to be human. Her crimson eyelashes rested on her skin like fine silk threads, and her lips maintained a natural red color that seemed to glow in the dark.
Suddenly, Lian spoke, but not with the Empress's authoritative voice. Her tone was lower, more... human.
—Shido... Do you think one can be happy being someone they didn't choose to be?
Li Wei couldn't help it. The question came from the depths of his existential crisis. He was tired of trying to control a body that wasn't his, tired of the arrogance and the weight of a power he didn't fully understand.
Shido remained thoughtful for a moment.
"I think almost no one chooses who they are at birth, Lian. I didn't choose to have the power to seal Spirits. Kotori didn't choose to be the commander of an airship. Even Tohka didn't choose to be the target of the whole world. But... what we can choose is what we do with who we are now. It doesn't matter how you came to this position. What matters is what you decide to do from this moment forward."
Lian tightened her embrace, burying her face a little deeper into his chest. Shido felt a slight shiver run through him as he noticed the dampness on his shirt. Was she... crying?
“This world is so small,” Lian whispered. “In my memories, the sky was endless, filled with dragons and gravity-defying palaces. Here, the sky is just air and clouds. I feel…trapped. Like this is a prison I was sent to…even my body feels like a restraint.”
"It certainly feels like a prison!" Li Wei thought bitterly. "A prison with killer curves and a hunger for nervous men!"
“You’re not trapped, Lian,” Shido said gently, unconsciously stroking the Empress’s hair. “The world may seem small if you only look up. But if you look around you… there are people to meet. There’s plenty of food to enjoy, television to watch with friends, and walks in the park to take with family… There’s a life that may be small, but it’s more real than anything else. If you stay here, I promise I’ll show you that you don’t need an empire to not feel lonely.”
The affection marker, if Kotori could have seen it then, would have taken a qualitative leap. It wasn't just physical attraction; it was the first time someone had looked beyond the "Empress" and spoken to the frightened person living inside.
Lian slowly raised her head, and her golden eyes met Shido's. The distance between them vanished. The sensual embrace deepened, a physical connection that felt...warm and comforting somehow.
"You're a very foolish child, Itsuka Shido," Lian said, and this time his smile was genuine, without a trace of malice. "An emperor would have executed anyone who spoke to him with such insolence. But I suppose, for now... I'll accept your offer of a small life."
Lian leaned down and pressed her lips to Shido's cheek. It wasn't a kiss that could end in a sudden seal, but a gesture of pure, possessive affection. Then, she settled back on top of him, like a contented cat who'd found her favorite spot in the sun.
"Sleep now," she ordered. "My maids will protect your sleep. And tomorrow... tomorrow you will take me to see that 'park.' If this world is my new territory, I must begin to know my subjects... starting with you."
Shido closed his eyes, feeling exhaustion finally overcome him. Lian's warmth no longer frightened him, but strangely comforting.
In the darkness of the room, the red glow of the Crimson Lotus softened into a faint pink glow, a promise of peace amidst the approaching storm.
That night, under the watchful eye of the twelve spectral maidens and in the embrace of a boy who refused to surrender, the sovereign from another world finally found the rest her soul so longed for.
Before falling unconscious, Li Wei had one last thought: "Tomorrow will be a disaster. Tohka will be angry, Kotori will interrogate me, and I'll probably have to deal with more assassins. But... for now, this bed isn't so bad."
