Chapter 38: A New Beginning

POV - Undo

"Lady Alter."

"Oh, it's you. I didn't realize you were there."

My master was slumped in her expensive leather executive chair, spinning around in circles as she kicked off the floor—perhaps in a futile attempt to shake off her gloom. It didn't seem to be doing much for her mood, as she clicked her tongue and stopped almost immediately.

"How are those two faring?"

"The Amane Squad and Heroes Estoc, you mean?"

"Hmph. They’re the reason I'm getting more wrinkles by the day."

"You are as beautiful as ever, my lady."

"Quiet, you."

Knowing she was quite on edge, I proceeded with the status report.

"Records show they’ve been accessing files in the archives regarding expansion memory for mass-produced models. However, they've also been branching out into other related documents, suggesting they haven't found a solid lead yet."

"Hmph. If I couldn't find anything after all my searching, I'd be damned if a bunch of amateurs managed to pull it off."

It was true. Lady Alter had been scouring those specific records for years—long before Lady Asuna was ever slated for disposal.

I had served by her side for over a decade, and she had never once stopped her search... except for that one day.

"Tell them to do as they please. Just as I have my own designs, I'm sure they have theirs. Just make sure you report their every move to me."

"Understood. Are you heading out somewhere?"

"You don't need to follow me. It’s a tedious place."

"The Shitai Mountains."

"Royal King Puuunch!!"

"Damn it! That name is so redundant it makes my head hurt, but she’s stupidly strong!"

"The Royal King Punch governs the very atmosphere around my fist! You only stumbled because of the sheer wind pressure!!"

Every day since that meeting, Yellow and King spent every spare moment in mock battles, learning each other's habits and techniques. If the frontline failed to synchronize, the resulting cracks in their coordination could easily lead to the entire squad's annihilation. I truly hoped they would succeed.

"And that concludes the message from Lady Alter."

" 'Do as you please,' huh..."

I had reached out to Alter, who had become my superior officer, to seek guidance on our future strategy. Unfortunately, I hadn't gained any useful information.

"I brought some documents she looked over in the past. I hope they provide some sort of hint."

"Thank you so much!"

"Also, she mentioned being curious about the culprit who drove Lady Asuna to the brink of—krrrk—"

"Undo?"

The communicator began to emit a harsh, discordant noise as it struggled to maintain the connection.

But then—

"Testing, testing. Can you hear me?"

"...Who is this?"

"Who... indeed. I forgot my name ages ago, but if I had to put it in terms you lot would understand..."

"I am the Primordial Red, Apollon Rouge."
