Chapter 77: Sibling Squabble

In Wano Country—no, in the New World—unpredictable disasters occasionally strike.

"——Whoa!! Alarm!?"

"H-Hey, if that alarm's going off…!!"

Once it starts, there’s no stopping it. After all… that’s just how disasters are.

"Oi, we’re screwed!! Run!!!"

"Huh? The hell’s going on…?"

"Just run, rookie!! Unless you wanna die!!"

Among the Beast Pirates, one of the Four Emperors based in Wano, there are elite executives known as "Calamities." But—

"——Oi, Joker!! Get your ass back here now!! You’re close by, aren’t you!?"

'What’s the rush? What’s going on?'

"Yeah, well… uh… y’know. Just got some business to handle…"

"GYAAAAAH—!!?"

"P-Please stop, Kaido-sama!!!"

"N-Nue-sama too!! Please, calm down!!!"

'…I heard that just now.'

"Whoa!? Nah, that was just… some light entertainment!! And I wanna show it to you soon, so hurry back—"

'——No.'

"Wha—"

But—even those called "Calamities" are no different from anyone else when faced with this disaster. All they can do is flee and do their best to survive.

'I just remembered something urgent, Queen. I won’t be back for a while, so call me when things settle down. —Later.'

"Hey, wait, you damn— THAT BITCH HUNG UP!! SHIT— WHOAAAH!!?"

"Queen-sama!! The rubble’s flying this way…!! What do we do!?"

"The hell you think!? We run, dumbass!! Everyone evacuates to the underground or outside Onigashima!! Split up the troops!! Get the ships ready!!"

"Y-Yes, sir!!"

The man called a Queen scrambled to escape with everything he had, while the woman nicknamed "Joker" sensed the danger and turned her approaching ship around.

As for the last one of the Calamities

"This one’s looking real bad…!!"

"——King, big bro!!"

"Jack, round up the crew and fall back. This fight’s on a whole other scale…!!"

"Yeah… You bastards!! Evacuate, now!! Move it!!!"

"Aye, sir!!"

Just like the others, they abandoned any thought of intervention and prioritized survival.

The two most terrifying natural disasters in the Beast Pirates. When either rages, only the other can stop them.

But the real horror isn’t when just one runs wild—

"“RRRROOOOAAAAARRRR!!!!””

——It’s when the two collide.

It’s no exaggeration to say that an Emperor’s overwhelming power and influence are what maintain their empire.

That’s why, even if the entire crew were to stand against them, none could oppose an Emperor.

But the Beast Pirates are different. While Kaido is the captain, he and his sworn sister Nue are practically equals. Whether facing Kaido or Nue alone, none of the All-Stars—no, not even the entire ten thousand-strong crew—could stop them.

And so, when these two fight—it’s like a clash of legendary monsters from myth.

Humans can’t stop it. It’s practically a force of nature. A true "Disaster."

"Ah… ah…!!"

"B… Big sis!! We gotta run…!!"

"Th-This… is a Four Emperor…!?"

For those witnessing it for the first time, the sheer scale leaves them stunned.

The once-rowdy banquet grounds are now in ruins as pirates flee in every direction.

"H-Hey!! What’re you standing around for!? Run or you’re dead!!!"

"Still… who’s actually stronger? I kinda think Nue-sama might have the edge."

"You’re way too damn relaxed, sis!!!"

Yet amid the chaos, three stood frozen, staring up at the sky-filling calamity.

In their vision were creatures of legend.

And they were massive.

"Oi, Nue…!!! Say that again…!!! Even for you, I won’t let that slide…!!!"

"Kaido…!!! You’re the one spouting nonsense…!!!"

There they were—two monsters.

A dragon, its serpentine body stretching hundreds of meters long.

A chimera-like aberration, towering over a hundred meters, stitched together from multiple beasts—a Nue.

These two, hailed as the world’s strongest creatures, were real-life monsters who had broken the spirits of countless warriors in the New World.

Zoan Mythical Beasts. A dragon and a Nue.

The World Government and pirates alike knew them by one title—terrifying simply for existing.

Two monsters who could flatten entire countries on a whim now clashed above Onigashima, warping the very weather with their fury.

"Ugh…!!"

"H-Hey!! Snap out of it…!!"

"Sh-Shit!! Conqueror’s Haki…!!"

"Leave the unconscious and run!! No time to save 'em!!!"

The Conqueror’s Haki radiating from the two shook all of Onigashima, its shockwaves rippling across the sea—reaching even the shores of Wano itself.

"——Whoa!!? What the—!?"

"Even the beasts are fleeing...!? What's happening...?"

"...It can't be..."

Even the samurai of Wano sensed the disturbance. The savage creatures native to Wano—the baboons, lion-dogs, and boars—had all begun a mass migration northward.

Animals have sharp instincts. Their survival instincts kicked in, driving them to flee as far as possible. The sea creatures were no different, with fish swarming away from Onigashima.

——But this wasn’t the first time.

Kaido and Nue clashing over petty disputes, forcing those around them to evacuate, was nothing new.

But never before had their rage reached this magnitude.

"What the hell set them off this time...!!"

"Let’s just hope it’s over in a week...!!"

"Maybe it’s because Nue-sama went berserk in the Holy Land...!?"

The Beast Pirates, clueless about the cause, huddled in safe zones, trembling as they speculated.

Then, they heard it—voices roaring from the sky.

"Listen here, Nue...!!! I'M—"

"No, Kaido...!!! I'M—"

Glaring at each other, their voices thick with menace, they bared their fangs, claws at the ready—until the truth finally surfaced.

The reason was...

"——OF COURSE I'M THE OLDER BROTHER!!!!"
"——I'M OBVIOUSLY THE OLDER SISTER!!!!"

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH~~!!!?"

"THAT’S what this is about!!!?"

That’s right—the cause of Kaido and Nue’s latest clash was... sibling hierarchy.

A decades-buried dispute had finally erupted.

"——Like hell you're the older sister!!! You’re clearly the little sister!!!"

"——Excuse me!? Age has nothing to do with looks!!! With how reckless you are, you’re the little brother!!! I’m the responsible one!!!"

"The hell you say!!! I’M the captain!!! I’ve been leading you all this time!!!"

"Oh please!!! I was the one looking after you as rookies!!! And don’t even get me started—you said you were in your teens when we first met!!! That makes me the older one!!! So I’m the big sister!!!"

"HUH!? BULLSHIT!!! You said the same damn thing back then!!!"

"Shut up!!! You’re the little brother, I’m the big sister!!! How many meals do you think I’ve cooked for you!?"

"THAT DOESN’T COUNT!!! Cut the crap!!! YOU’RE THE LITTLE SISTER!!!"

The argument between the two rulers of the Beast Pirates—this sibling squabble—had begun.

It started when Nue, after seeing the newly recruited Hancock sisters and later Ulti and Page One, casually remarked on sibling dynamics... and Kaido took offense.

They glared. Weapons were drawn. Then, in the blink of an eye, they transformed into their massive beast forms.

Fights between them were never settled with words.

And given the nature of this dispute, fists were the only natural solution.

It stemmed from an unspoken, absolute principle they both lived by:

"——THEN THE STRONGER ONE IS THE ELDER!!!"

——Might makes right.

Clashing ideals, values, beliefs—for pirates, no, for this world, it was commonplace.

In these seas, morality alone held no weight.

Even the noblest conviction meant nothing...

——Without the strength to back it up.

Kaido and Nue were conquerors who had crushed countless wills under their sheer power.

They were emperors who had clawed their way to the top with brute force alone.

So settling this with strength? To them, it was only natural.

"ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAR!!!!"

The howls of the "Hundred Beasts" and the "Monstrous Beast" shook the island.

Their Conqueror’s Haki collided, forcing the Beast Pirates to cover their ears and flee.

To the two of them, this was inevitable.

But for everyone else?

——This was hell.

A fight between Kaido and Nue could wipe out islands—no, entire countries—and still not be over.

"GYAAAAAAAAH—!!!"

"RUN!!! JUST RUN!!! DON’T GET CAUGHT IN THIS!!!"

Kaido spewed flames, summoned lightning, and hurled ice. Nue conjured black clouds, attacked with UFOs, and lashed out with her hybrid beast limbs.

Even their mere collisions with the ground caused catastrophic destruction—so much so that some swore they saw Onigashima’s maw open wide, screaming, "PLEASE STOP!!!"

(Of course, that was just a hallucination. But when reality itself seems to break, the mind cracks too.)

"Oi, Nue!!! You really think you can beat ME!? I know all your tricks!!! I’M WINNING THIS!!!"

"SHUT UP, KAIDO!!! I know your moves just as well!!! ...Not that it matters, since you just charge in blindly anyway!!!"

"Gah!!!? —Ugh!!!? What the hell!!!?"

Nue, hovering in the sky, lunges from the black clouds straight at Kaido’s draconic body. Massive tiger claws seize a section of Kaido’s elongated torso, followed by fangs sinking in.

But Kaido’s monstrously tough flesh resists even that. The claws leave shallow gashes, and the fangs pierce mere centimeters—barely scratching the surface.

Yet, by all rights, Kaido’s body is considered invincible. Not even the top executives of the Beasts Pirates, the All-Stars, can wound him. Inflicting any damage at all is a feat in itself.

"You think attacks that weak will work on me!!?"

"Tch—! It did work, didn’t it!!?"

Kaido retaliates instantly. Swiveling his head toward the biting Nue, he blasts him point-blank with a "Bolo Breath."

The attack leaves Nue’s skin faintly charred. A burn—undeniably. But Nue, too, is a monster. At worst, it’s a superficial scorch—not even equivalent to a human’s blister.

Yet that alone defies logic given Nue’s absurd resilience. A fiend who treats boiling torture-oil like a hot spring and hums while being burned at the stake. For him to sustain even minor burns proves Kaido’s attack is monstrously potent.

"Fall!!!"

"Then you’re coming down with me!!!"

"Bastard…!!!"

The same holds true for both.

Nue’s strikes typically pulverize steel like tofu, while Kaido’s breath annihilates fortresses in an instant. As Kaido tries to slam Nue into the ground, Nue’s serpentine tail coils around him—and together, tangled in their brawl, they crash earthward.

The impact wreaks devastation akin to a natural disaster.

"—Whoaaa!!? Shit, RUN~~~!!!"

"Kaido and Nue are falling on us, meeeeh~~~!!!"

"…!!!"

"WAAAAAH~~~!!!?"

By sheer chance, Page One, Ulti, the Hancock sisters, and nearby crewmen sprint for their lives. The sheer size disparity—literally over a hundredfold—means even their fall is a cataclysmic strike. Impossible to stop. Only escape. Those too slow are crushed beneath.

"Are they really both Zoan-types…!!?"

"Kaido’s a dragon, and Nue’s a Nue, meeh! Both Mythical, both freaks, both badass, meeh!"

"Too huge… Is this a nightmare…!?"

Even Sandersonia and Marigold—witnessing Kaido and Nue’s beast forms for the first time—tremble as they flee. Their own Snake-Snake fruits are formidable, but pale next to these two monsters.

"Tch…!! How long will this fight last!? Is there no way to stop it!?"

"Like hell there is!!! Quit dreamin’ and just run!!! Might calm down in a week or so!!!"

"A… A WEEK!!?"

Hancock’s group reels at Page One’s answer. The duration is absurd—yet true. When Kaido and Nue clash, they fight nonstop for weeks.

Worse, they can battle for over a month without sleep, food, or rest. Their stamina is inhuman. Meaning this could drag on for nearly a month—with no way to halt the catastrophe. That’s just how they fight.

"So we just keep running…!?"

"Evacuate, yeah!! But we ain’t twiddlin’ our thumbs!!"

"They’re not targetin’ us, meeh. Just hide in Udon and live normally, meeh."

"Seriously!!?"

Page One and Ulti’s replies stun the sisters. Live normally amid this chaos? Of course, "normal" is relative—but with no means to stop the disaster, adaptation is the only option. Flee first, then carry on while monitoring the chaos. Just like surviving a storm.

"…Then what of us? We were promised training under Nue…"

"How should I know!!? Go jump in if you’re brave!! Might count as ‘training’ if you survive!!"

"…………"

Hancock and her sisters had already put considerable distance between themselves and the chaos, but at Page One’s words, they glanced back—just slightly—toward the devastation behind them.

"GROOOOOOAAAAAH!!!!"

"GYAAAAAAAAAH!!!!"

"…………"

Even from afar, the two colossal beasts’ clash felt unnervingly close, their sheer size distorting perception. Though Hancock had struck a deal to train under Nue, she clutched her head in frustration—until Ulti cut in with a dry remark.

"Try interruptin’ and you’ll die, meeh."

"…Thou there—could you go in our stead?—Nay, ’tis impossible…"

"Hah!!? The hell you say, Pe-tan!? Bargin’ into their fight’s easy! Survivin’s the hard part, meeh!!!"

"D-dumbass!!! That’s suicide!!! You tryin’ to die, sis!?"

"Who’re you callin’ DUMB, huh!?"

—Clearly futile.

While strength was their goal, even they weren’t that suicidal. Some things required steps—charging into that battle now would just be a glorified death wish. They’d need to grow stronger first.

But that left the question: What do we do in the meantime?

By the time they reached the lake fronting Onigashima’s entrance—where ships waited for evacuation—most were doubled over, gasping for breath. Hancock sighed and addressed her sisters with resigned finality.

"It seems we must… carry on as usual for now."

"Y-yes! That’s wisest, Sister. Charging in would be madness!"

"Eek! Their roars… they still sound so close…!"

With that, Hancock’s group boarded a ship alongside others, fleeing to Wano’s mainland—Udon.

Casually sticking near Page One and Ulti, they soon found themselves surrounded by familiar faces: the Tobiroppo, Headliners they’d just met, and even strangers. Then, the All-Stars themselves arrived.

"—So. What’s the plan this time?"

"Same as always… Queen and I’ll take shifts holdin’ down Onigashima. The rest of you, return to your posts."

"Right… Figures…!! …Sigh…"

"Queen’s real obvious about hatin’ this!!"

As Who’s-Who posed the question to the assembled officers, King laid out orders with practiced ease—clearly, this was routine by now. The Headliners dispersed, but Hancock’s group stood frozen, unsure where to go. Surrounded by unfamiliar faces (and too many men), discomfort prickled at them.

"—Hm? You lot… Nue’s new recruits, right?"

"! …Aye. And so… what would thou have us do?"

With the Headliners gone, King finally noticed them. Hancock spoke up, refusing to let her trembling sisters bear the pressure. King’s gaze flicked to the nearby Tobiroppo and four Headliners.

"Hey, you lot. Show ’em the ropes."

"…Tch. Fine…"

"Yeah, got it."

Who’s-Who clicked his tongue openly. Though resentful of King’s order—because these were Nue’s recruits—he grudgingly complied. In contrast, Jack nodded without complaint. Page One exhaled. "Knew it’d go like this…" Ulti, of course, teased him—until Who’s-Who loomed over the sisters, all mockery vanishing.

"—Then move it, brats… I’ll teach you runts what it means to be pirates…"

"…!!"

Tension coiled through the three at his words. Pirate work—plunder, smuggling, or worse. Even mundane tasks could turn lethal depending on the cargo. These weren’t the type to go easy on them just because Nue brought them in. They’d need to stay sharp.

Behind them, Onigashima quaked as the disaster of a duel raged on—and just like that, their uneasy life in the Beasts Pirates began. No mentor, no captain, and no respite in sight.

"WOOOOOH!!! NICE ATTACK!!! Did ya come up with a new move or somethin'?!!"

"Damn right!!! If it weren’t you, I’d have turned you to charcoal by now!!!"

——Even on cloudy days, when fire rained from the sky.

"——C’mon!! Put your back into it!! Gotta tighten that stance, y’hear? ♡"

"Hah… Hah… This is tougher than I thought…!!"

"Quit whinin’, Marie…!! We’ve been doin’ this since we were brats!! Finish it already…!!!"

"More importantly, I can’t stop worrying about the roars behind us and the occasional heat rays flying our way…"

"HEY, YOU BASTARDS!! IF YOU MESS WITH MY CROPS, I’LL BEAT YOU TO DEATH!!!"

——And so, they worked alongside Ulti.

"Ugh…!! Not bad!!! You actually managed to pin me down!!!"

"Your speed’s decent… but I can still catch you…!!!"

——Even on days when torrential rains lashed the earth.

"Hehehe…!! We got a big haul today…!!! Hey, you lot… hunt every last one of ‘em…!! No half-assin’ it…!!"

"……Sonia, sis. Did his personality just flip all of a sudden…?"

"Maybe ‘cause Big Sis isn’t here… Or maybe he’s just really enjoyin’ this…?"

"——The way these fish are movin’…? Somethin’s fishy, alright… Who the hell are you supposed to be?!!"

"And now he’s yellin’ at the ocean…"

"Tch!! Enough nonsense!! Let’s wrap this up!!!"

——And so, they went out to sea with Page One and hunted their prey.

"Not bad at all!!! But I won’t lose either!!!"

"Not yet!!! My strength’s far from spent!!!"

——Even on days when lightning split the sky.

"——Let me make this clear…!! Dig it up right, and we won’t have overtime!!! Failin’ to dig it up… is a sin!!!"

"……That’s what he says, but… no matter how much we dig, it never ends…"

"Also, these rocks drain your strength when you touch ‘em… Could they be——"

"Honestly… Why must I suffer through this…?!"

"One more thing!! I love destroyin’ shit…!!!"

"WHOOOA!! Hell yeah!!! That’s Jack-sama for ya!!!"

"That speed’s somethin’ only Jack-sama can pull off…!!!"

"And these guys… Why are they so damn pumped?! It’s just manual labor!!"

——And so, they assisted Jack in his destruction.

"Startin’ to wear out yet?! ——Well, I could keep goin’ for another month!!!"

"Shut yer trap!!! Then I’ll go for two!!!"

"Then I’ll last three!!!"

"Y’all never shut up!!! WORORORO!!!"

——Even on days when snow piled high.

"——Listen… If any of my beasts drop dead………… What d’you think’ll end up on Nueshi’s dinner table next?"

"……Don’t tell me you think it’d be you…?"

"I couldn’t care less… I’m too tired to even think…"

"Well, if this job disappeared, I wouldn’t complain… But it’s not gonna, right?"

"Nah, no way… All the past Tobiroppo did this kinda grunt work…"

"——Hey. What’re you mutterin’ about, slackin’ off?! Go find my beasts that ran away and capture ‘em alive…!! They fled north. They’ve gotta be somewhere in these mountains…!!"

——And so, they followed Fū’s Fū and captured the escaped beasts.

——And then… About a month passed in that daily grind.

"——King-sama!! A message from Queen-sama on Onigashima!!"

"Finally gone quiet… ‘Bout damn time—— Hey."

"Tch… You little… How dare you stain my vision…?!"

"Sis… You’re clumsier than I thought…"

"She’s strugglin’ with peeling and mincing…"

"Shut it!!! I’ll just chop it all up… and feed it to the beasts…!!!"

"——Hey, we’re done for now. Move out…!!!"

As the clamor of Onigashima faded, King received word from Queen and led his subordinates—along with the three of them—toward the island. Though a massive brawl had taken place, Onigashima remained largely intact. And there, seated at the gates, drinking sake, were two figures.

"——WORORORO!!!"

"——AHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

——Kaido and Nue.

Somehow, after nearly a month of fighting, the two were now laughing together, arms slung over each other’s shoulders. The Beast Pirates crew watched them with exhausted expressions.

"Why are they getting along now…?"

"They’re always like this after a fight… Though this one dragged on longer than usual—Kaido-san, Nue-san."

"WORORORO!! King, you bastard!!! Long time no see!!!"

"Ahahahaha!! Seriously, seriously!! The rest of you too, it’s been ages!!!"

"…So, it’s settled…?"

Queen muttered in confusion at the two, who were casually laughing about their reunion. Then Kaido turned to the crew and declared:

"Yeah—just so we’re clear… Nue’s my big sister!!!"

"!!"

Wait—did Kaido lose?! Everyone’s minds raced. Was he conceding the title of "eldest"?!

But then, immediately, Nue countered:

"——And Kaido’s my big brother!!!"

"!!?"

Now a contradictory statement. So did Nue lose? But Kaido just called her his sister.

As everyone’s brains short-circuited trying to make sense of this, the two roared in unison:

"What we mean is!! After thinkin’ it over, we realized—we’re sworn siblings, equals in every way!!!"

"There’s no ‘older’ or ‘younger’ between us!!! If you had to label it, we’re kyoudai—written with the characters for ‘brother’ and ‘sister’!!!"

"WORORORORO!!! Damn straight!!!"

(Ehhh~~~~……!!?)

At that moment, every Beast Pirates crew member thought—not out loud—the same thing: You took a whole month to come up with that as your conclusion?!

Their faces collectively drained of energy.

Kaido and Nue, noticing the crew’s dead-eyed stares, tilted their heads.

"…? Hey, why’re you all lookin’ so worn out? And why’re so many of you lyin’ on the ground?"

"Did something worry you, dears? What’s wrong~?"

"——IT’S YOUR FAULT, YOU ‘BROTHER-SISTER’ DISASTER DUO!!! THIS IS INSANE!!!"

((((Yeah…!!!))))

For once, everyone internally agreed with Ulti’s immediate, razor-sharp jab—even Page One didn’t stop her this time, though he did flinch slightly, worried about retaliation.

The three sisters watching sighed deeply.

"…They seem… quite the handful."

"Yes… Well, we’ll probably get stronger here… in every sense."

"Indeed… After this month, we’ve grown beyond comparison to our former selves…!!"

And it was true. Everything the three needed to grow stronger was here.

In just one month, they’d mastered countless skills and evolved—specifically:

"Farming, fishing, mining, and animal husbandry…!!!"

"We’ve learned so much…!!!"

"Exactly!! With skills like these, we’ll never starve………… Wait, no!! That’s not the point!!! We’re pirates—we’re supposed to hone our fighting skills!!!"

(…They’ve assimilated way too much. Only one of ‘em’s still sane.)

The Boa sisters now alternated between work gloves and hoes, coveralls and fishing nets, pickaxes, and—lately—aprons for cooking. They weren’t quite model crew members yet, but they’d become well-rounded Beast Pirates, versed in every form of manual labor.

Queen watched them and mused: They’ll probably end up as Tobiroppo someday… More future firepower was good, but the thought of more chaotic forces joining the ranks made him shudder.
