Chapter 60

"W-what in the world happened in just a few minutes…?"

Lumière-san was stunned. Why was she so shocked?

"Lumière-san?"

"N-no, why are you acting like this is completely normal?! How did you two end up so disgustingly clingy like this?!"

"Hm? We’re going to be married, so this much is natural, no? Why are you so surprised?"

"Natural… is it really natural…?"

Lumière-san muttered under her breath. Our current position seemed to bother her.

"…I’ll ask just to be sure, but why is Yuka sitting on Lord Albert’s lap?"

Lord Albert was seated on the carpet, with me clinging to him, perched on his lap—a variation of a princess carry, so to speak.

"“Because we’re married (that’s why).”"

"…You’ve both become complete fools, haven’t you?"

Lumière-san sighed in exasperation.

"Well, since you just got back today, I’ll let it slide. But starting tomorrow, we’re seriously crushing the Supreme Demon Cult. Are your preparations in order?"

"Of course. We’ll squash them like bugs~♪"

"My, your way of thinking has become quite similar to mine. Not that I mind—I, too, intend to deliver despair and death to those who oppose Lord Noir, so I understand the sentiment perfectly."

Lumière-san nodded. Yes! Thrilled to have gained her approval, I turned to Lord Albert with a question.

"By the way, I heard that nearly half of the Supreme Demon Cult was already wiped out by Lord Albert’s elder sister and her husband. Do they have some grudge against the cult?"

"Indeed. My sister was once cursed—a curse that burned anyone who touched her, save for family. The ones who cast it were the Demon God Cult, specifically a faction called the ‘Black Garden.’"

"Why would they do such a thing?"

"Speculation, but likely to prevent other factions from claiming her. The ‘Black Garden’ worships the ‘Black Clan’ of Supreme Demons, but the cult as a whole reveres others as well. Demonkin are the closest beings to the Supreme Demons. They tried to use my sister to resurrect the ‘Black Clan,’ but when that failed, they resorted to petty tricks to keep her out of rival factions’ hands. Or so my sister and Mina explained."

"That’s… an astonishingly selfish reason."

And with foes like that, I wouldn’t hesitate to kill them. Hehe…

"Because of that, my sister and the cult were already enemies, but the curse placed on me made their feud irreparable. My sister hunts them down; they flee. It’s been a game of cat and mouse ever since."

"I see. By the way, can’t we contact those two?"

With their help, crushing the cult would be even easier. That thought prompted my question. Lord Albert nodded in response.

"I’ve already reached out. In fact, ever since I informed them of my marriage to Yuka, their efforts against the cult have intensified. They said they’d come immediately if needed. So, I messaged them that we’re moving seriously tomorrow and asked for their aid. This was their reply."

Lord Albert produced a letter from nowhere. Its contents read:

"Hmm, hmm. So you’ll arrive at the manor around nine tomorrow morning. Then we’ll need to prepare a welcome."

Though reluctant to part from Lord Albert, my true duty is that of a maid—managing the household. So, I shall fulfill that role.

"I’ve already informed Mir and El. Ask them for the details."

"Understood. Then, if you’ll excuse me."

I bowed to Lord Albert and set off to prepare. My goal? The finest hospitality possible.
