Chapter 83

"A Corrosion Dragon. Quite troublesome."

Lord Albert muttered. True to its name, a Corrosion Dragon had the ability to rot anything it touched. Since nothing but its own kind could make contact, slaying one was notoriously difficult. To begin with, dragons were a race that ordinary demons couldn’t hope to match. …Not that it stopped them from throwing me into training against them. Including top-tier monsters like Black Dragons and Dimensional Dragons. Looking back, that was insane.

"GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOON!!!"

Zeren had clearly lost all rationality, thrashing wildly. Nearby residents panicked at the sudden appearance of a dragon—their shock was palpable even from here.

"Yukari, evacuate the civilians to safety."

"Understood."

"I’ll help too. I know this area well."

"Appreciate it, Aqua."

Yukari and Aqua moved to guide the evacuation. I hadn’t expected Aqua of all people to assist, though.

"Well, I owe these folks a few favors."

Almost as if reading my mind, Aqua answered, her cheeks faintly pink. Beneath her obsessive love for Minato, maybe she was decent at heart.

"Until the evacuation’s complete, we’re on defense. Protect the town. The moment everyone’s clear, we crush him in one strike."

"Yes, sir!"

As Lord Albert issued orders, Minato checked his phone.

"Hmm. Rigur replied. He wants us to capture Zeren alive—your call, Al?"

"If we can spare the effort. Otherwise, exterminate him."

"Got it. …Reply just came in. ‘If it’s too much hassle, just kill him.’"

"Then let’s move. Mina, capturing him alive shouldn’t be hard for you?"

"He’s a bit too lively right now. If we’re taking him in, we’ll need to weaken him first."

"Then we’ll soften him up. Yuuka!"

"Yes!"

I leapt onto a rooftop, readying my attack. The real nuisance wasn’t just his corrosive touch—he could spew rot-inducing liquid in all directions. If he gained aerial dominance, we’d be in trouble.

"GRGYAAAA!"

Countless water orbs materialized around Zeren. Right—water magic was his specialty. Weak compared to Minato or Aqua, but still beyond most demons.

"Here it comes! Brace yourselves!"

The instant Lord Albert shouted, the orbs erupted outward. I intercepted them with lightning spears, but the splashes melted rooftops into sludge. Definitely corrosive. Glancing around: Albert and I held the roofs, Cecelia shielded fleeing civilians on the ground, and Minato countered with ice lances while slicing Zeren with blades of water—freezing the wounds instantly to halt regeneration.

"Leave the ground to me! I’ll protect them! Mina, focus on Zeren!"

"Thanks, Big Sis!"

"Evacuation’s almost done! Prepare to attack!"

"Understood!"

Perhaps sensing our intent, Zeren conjured a massive whirlpool of water around himself—a defensive maneuver.

"Alright, Mina. How long to freeze that?"

"Ten seconds."

"Got it. Yuka, we’ll whittle him down as much as possible."

"Yes, sir!"
