Chapter 91
"So this is the Sanctuary Spell..."
The magic Yuuka activated enveloped us in a soft, translucent violet barrier that blocked out the external mana. A magical circle with a radius of about 30 meters centered around Yuuka became visible. The oppressive weight of the surrounding mana vanished completely—but more than that...
"My body feels... light."
"Yes! And strength is welling up from deep inside me. With this, I could devour as much as I want!"
"Wait, seriously? Is it amplifying our mana? My reserves are clearly increasing."
Exactly. The Sanctuary Spell didn’t just shield us from harmful effects—it also enhanced the power of those within it. Even I could feel energy surging from my core, my body light as a feather. ...Yukari. By "devour," you mean magical beasts, right? Right?!
"Ah, how ingenious."
"Lady Lumière? What do you mean?"
"It seems Yuuka-san isn’t just blocking external mana—she’s synchronizing and converting it into a harmless form, then using it to amplify your total mana capacity. The original Sanctuary Spell did have strengthening properties, but to leverage the Abyss’s ambient mana to expand your reserves? Quite impressive. Did you notice, Lord Albert?"
"Yuuka did that...? Amazing. I knew I felt lighter and stronger, but..."
"And Yuuka-san herself is using the ambient mana to bolster her own reserves, further reinforcing the spell. At this rate, as long as we’re in the Abyss, she’ll never run out of mana. ...Honestly, one moment she’s sobbing incoherently, the next she pulls off something like this. Utterly unpredictable."
"My wife is incredible. Yuuka never ceases to astonish me."
"Indeed. She’s undeniably a prodigy in magic."
"Is that so? To think Yuuka has such talent..."
"You look pleased, Lord Albert."
"What kind of husband wouldn’t be happy to see his wife praised? I’m overjoyed."
"And speaking of praise—you’ve mastered Oblivion Magic under Lord Noir’s guidance in such a short time, haven’t you? A deceptively simple yet devastating spell. To my knowledge, no other demon has ever reached that level. You’re the first, Lord Albert."
"Hmm. Flattering, but credit goes to Lord Noir’s teaching. This wasn’t my strength alone."
"So modest. And yet, you’re far more delighted when Yuuka-san is praised than when you are."
"Heh. Guilty as charged."
I glanced at Yuuka. Rather than basking in her own brilliance, she was fussing over Aqua and the others. My wife really is the best.
"Now then, let’s resume the search for Scarlet."
After confirming Aqua and the others were stable under the Sanctuary Spell and taking a brief rest, we set out again.
"Thanks to Yuuka’s spell, Scarlet’s residual mana is much clearer now. It seems she’s... over there."
Lord Albert pointed ahead. Beyond the endless stretch of darkness and glowing flowers, about two kilometers away—
"What is that? Some kind of crystal?"
"Likely where she’s trapped. Or perhaps she encased herself in it to ward off the Demon God Cult’s interference."
Sure enough, the distant silhouette of a person was visible inside the prismatic structure—like Zelda’s legendary princess, or that one thing from Attack on Titan. Surrounding the crystal were hundreds of figures, presumably cultists. Among them, a few radiated particularly strong auras. The leaders? They seemed to be barking orders.
"The grunts are undoubtedly the cult. Any strategies?"
Lord Albert’s question was met with a unanimous response:
"「「「「「「Obviously—we smash through them head-on.」」」」」」
"Good. Then let’s begin the cleanup."
With a sharp grin from Lord Albert, the extermination operation commenced.
