Chapter 99

“Kh…! Just kill me already!”

“Oh. My first Kukkoro.”

“Kukkoro? There you go again, Yuuka, saying things that make no sense…”

The first kukkoro moment didn’t come from a delicate lady knight, but from a burly male warrior. Glaazel-san glared at me with hatred in his eyes, while Aqua-san looked at me like I was some bizarre creature. What do you mean ‘again’? Have I said that much weird stuff?

“…You’re not even aware, are you. But the assessment that you’re a beautiful girl—as long as you don’t speak—seems accurate.”

Aqua-san cast a pitying gaze my way. Wait, that’s the first I’ve heard of that! Who said it!?

“Hmph, how rude. I’m a flawless, ultimate beautiful idol, you know?”

“…That’s exactly the problem.”

I don’t get it.

With Iris-san surrendering and no longer able to use her restoration magic, the Adamantite Golems were dealt with—Lord Albert and the others destroyed three of the five and managed to capture the other two. They’re apparently going to be used for research.

Yuri had restrained Glaazel-san with ridiculous ease. Apparently, my Sanctuary Railgun (tentative name) had left him nearly catatonic, making capture a simple task. I mean, it was ridiculously powerful.

As for the twins Mitsuki and Misuha, who had been fighting Aqua-san and Yukari-san, they raised the white flag as soon as Glaazel-san was captured. They’re currently bound in Aqua-san’s ice chains, but instead of being angry like Glaazel-san, they actually look… a little amused.

“We got caught~”

“Yup, totally caught~”

“You two are way too carefree…”

Aqua-san now handled all the snarky commentary solo. In this party, where the rest of us are mostly jokers, she’s a valuable asset.

“You’re one too, Yuuka.”

“Ah, yes ma’am.”

She read my mind and clapped back before I even opened my mouth. I do think I lean more toward being the straight man, though. Not that I’ll say it out loud.

“Hm, for now, let’s keep them as prisoners. Iris-dono, you’re okay with that?”

“Of course, Albert. We are the defeated. Whether we live or die is in your hands. I shall comply.”

Iris-san, the only one not bound, shrugged as she answered. Her words only poured oil on Glaazel-san’s fire.

“Iris!! You traitor!! You would betray Lord Cloud?!”

“It’s for Yuuka, my greatest disciple. Besides, if we return now, death is guaranteed, Glaazel. You know well that Lord Cloud does not tolerate failure.”

Glaazel-san roared while Iris-san responded calmly. Judging by how casually they spoke, they must be something like partners or old comrades.

“I won’t accept this! I’d rather die than live in disgrace!”

Glaazel-san growled. Now what should we do?

“Yuuka, want me to kill him? He’s kind of in the way.”

“No. We need intel.”

Yuri offered, but I refused. We still need information about the Demon God Cult.

“Don’t bark so much, Glaazel. These people might be able to cure your sister, you know?”

“Don’t be ridiculous! Only Lord Cloud can cure her!”

“That may not be so. The curse placed on Albert—‘Curse of Usurpation,’ a top-tier jujutsu—is one thing, but the curse on your sister could be healed with Yuuka’s power.”

“What could she possibly do!?”

“You saw it with your own eyes, didn’t you? That sanctuary magic. Only those chosen can wield it. There’s no mistake—Yuuka is the reincarnation of the ‘Clan of White.’ Sanctuary magic can easily purify low-level curses. You know that, don’t you?”

“—! …Can it really…? You can really save her…?”

Glaazel-san turned to me with a desperate look in his eyes. He’s carrying something heavy on his shoulders. Honestly, there’s still a lot I don’t understand about sanctuary magic. But for now, abandoning him isn’t an option.

“I’ll do everything I can.”

“Gh… grr… ngh…”

Glaazel-san groaned for a moment, but then hung his head in resignation.

“…Please. Save my sister…”

“I will.”

His words were choked with regret and frustration. I don’t know what burden he carries, but if I can help even a little, I want to.

“Now then, since everything’s settled, it’s time we proceed with our original mission. We’re here to rescue Scarlet.”

“Understood.”

Just as Lord Albert said, the reason we descended into this abyss in the first place was to rescue Scarlet-sama. It’s been a winding path, but now we can finally carry out our mission.
