Chapter 256-260

Chapter 256: This Rotten Life of Mine, Besides Betting It All, What Else Can I Do?

Smoker nodded upon hearing the name. "Tesoro, is it?"

After speaking, he glanced at the document he was holding. It contained several detailed business plans, clearly the product of careful effort.

"Did you write this?" Smoker asked.

"Yes, Boss Smoker!" Tesoro quickly replied.

"Interesting," Smoker murmured.

Gild Tesoro, the future 'Gold Emperor.' After the Mariejois arson incident, this man didn't join the Revolutionary Army, nor did he follow Fisher Tiger.

He traveled to the New World alone, wandering until he gathered a small crew of subordinates, intending to start his own enterprise.

But he was truly outmatched. His subordinates were barely useful for cheering him on; relying on them to actually accomplish anything significant was utter nonsense.

According to the original story, Tesoro should have stolen Doflamingo's Gold-Gold Fruit in two or three years, thereby embarking on his road to wealth and becoming the richest man in the pirate world.

Diarmuid had noticed this man and specifically instructed others to look for him. Diarmuid recalled that Tesoro was supposed to be working at Sabaody Archipelago, but they couldn't find him, and the matter was eventually dropped.

Who would have thought this man would show up now, asking to join Smoker?

After operating in the New World for a while, Tesoro realized there was no path forward for him. He didn't want to be a pirate; he only wanted to be a man above others, to be rich.

He was quick-witted. Even without having received any formal education, he had many valuable ideas and concepts. Sometimes, one had to admit that talent was critical.

Upon realizing that he couldn't achieve anything significant on his own, Tesoro began looking for a backer in the New World.

The two biggest 'mountains' in the New World were the Whitebeard Pirates and the alliance between Charlotte Linlin and Kaido.

But neither faction suited Tesoro's intentions. Smoker, as one of the Warlords of the Sea, caught Tesoro's eye instead.

In Tesoro's opinion, although Smoker flew a pirate flag, he was affiliated with the World Government—a legitimate pirate. That fact alone put him far above Whitebeard and Kaido.

After all, if he wanted to make big money, he would inevitably have to deal with people from all walks of life and conduct large-scale business. It would be impossible to bypass the World Government.

Smoker had the credentials to conduct open business with the World Government. Did Whitebeard? Did Kaido? Did Charlotte Linlin?

Of course, besides Smoker, he also observed the other Warlords of the Sea, such as the World's Strongest Swordsman, who had briefly appeared in the New World not long ago but quickly vanished without a trace.

It was obvious, however, that Dracule Mihawk wasn't interested in business.

As for Bartholomew Kuma, he was virtually impossible to find, appearing like a dragon that only showed its tail. And Crocodile had gone to Alabasta, cleaned up his image to become a nobleman, and was rumored to have recently acquired a 'Sir' title.

Therefore, after much thought, Tesoro could only focus on Smoker.

Smoker was a Warlord of the Sea and wasn't overly vicious. He was now beginning to sanitize his reputation. His main business was no longer piracy; he was now a tycoon of the New World, a big shot in the underworld. He controlled the Amway Group, earning massive amounts of money daily, with countless ships sailing for him.

He was even rumored to have a partnership with the Pleasure District. In Tesoro's mind, Smoker was a business magnate wearing the skin of a pirate!

A man like this had power, influence, and a platform. If he could gain Smoker's favor, his ideas and talents might be realized, becoming a new path to paradise!

So, Tesoro spent time thoroughly researching the situation in the New World, examining the public profile of the Amway Group, and formulating a series of business proposals. Then, with tremendous nerve, he came alone to Smoor Tobacco City to find Smoker.

He didn't know if a high-ranking figure like Smoker would grant him an audience, but he came anyway—he had to gamble!

He was incredibly lucky: Smoker received him, and he personally presented his business plan to the Warlord.

Frankly, if Smoker accepted the plan now and then kicked Tesoro out, Tesoro would suffer a huge loss. Smoker could indeed use those good ideas to elevate his business.

Therefore, Tesoro's actions were truly a gamble.

He was betting that Smoker had the foresight to recognize his talent from the plan.

He assumed Smoker, like himself, possessed a great business mind, for how else could the Amway Group be run?

However, Tesoro was genuinely mistaken on this point. Smoker had no business acumen. While he was nominally the boss of the Amway Group, the actual business operations were handled by Marine Headquarters and the Pleasure District. Smoker merely flew the flag of a Warlord of the Sea and was responsible for some operational tasks.

Hence, Smoker couldn't understand the business proposals Tesoro offered!

Naturally, he couldn't appreciate Tesoro's talent, either.

Fortunately for Tesoro, he wasn't completely out of luck. After the Mariejois arson incident, Smoker had received an instruction from Diarmuid to keep an eye out for a person named 'Gild Tesoro' who might appear in the New World. If found, Diarmuid said the man would be of great use.

Not just Smoker; Stussy, the Queen of the Pleasure District, had also received the same instruction from Diarmuid.

However, the time had been too short, and Tesoro was genuinely a nobody with perhaps only a dozen subordinates. New World 'big shots' like him could be found by the thousands with a casual search.

So, neither Smoker nor Stussy had managed to find Tesoro yet.

But now, Tesoro hadn't been searched out by Smoker; he had popped up himself, offering to join him.

This greatly surprised Smoker and made him very curious: How did Admiral Diarmuid know about this man?

Although he couldn't understand the business proposals or Tesoro's talent, since he was a person the Admiral wanted, Smoker naturally had no reason to refuse him.

After a period of silence, Smoker spoke. "In this world, everyone has something they seek. Some pursue justice, some pursue power, some pursue wealth, and some pursue strength. So, Tesoro, you came to me, presenting this valuable plan. It can't be out of complete selflessness, can it? Or do you truly intend to just be a minor pirate subordinate under me? Heheh... Tell me, what do you want from me?"

It must be said that while Smoker looked like a henpecked man constantly enduring "three years and three years" in front of Diarmuid, in front of others, he carried the perfect demeanor of a big boss.

His speech made Tesoro's heart pound.

After thinking for a moment, Tesoro ultimately dared not deceive Smoker and said in a deep voice, "Boss Smoker, I hope to gain the protection of your flag, to receive your financial support, and to be allowed to manage the implementation of these business plans. I will prove my abilities to you, and I hope to be granted a certain status by you... Finally, I want the Gold-Gold Fruit."

Smoker didn't take the initial requests seriously. Since this young man had already caught the Admiral's eye, rising in the ranks should not be a problem.

Since he himself didn't understand any of this, perhaps the Admiral, upon learning of it, might genuinely assign the task to Tesoro.

But what was this Gold-Gold Fruit situation?

"The Gold-Gold Fruit?" Smoker murmured.

Tesoro was somewhat surprised that Boss Smoker was only surprised by that. Did that mean he didn't care about the preceding conditions? Did that mean there was hope?

Tesoro was very good at reading expressions. He quickly concealed his surprise and explained rapidly, "That's right, the Gold-Gold Fruit, a Paramecia-type ability. Eating this fruit grants the power to control gold. For a businessman, it is the best possible ability!"

"Is that so?" Smoker nodded, then asked, "You want to use the power of the Amway Group to help you find this Devil Fruit?"

Tesoro first nodded, then shook his head. "Actually, there's no need to look. I already know where it is..."

"Where?" Smoker asked.

"In the hands of the Heavenly Yaksha, Donquixote Doflamingo," Tesoro stated without hesitation.

Smoker: ???

In reality, Tesoro had a strange destiny with the Gold-Gold Fruit. After escaping Mariejois, he gathered a small group of thugs on a New World island port and became a minor dock boss.

During one occasion while helping the Donquixote Family load cargo, he happened to overhear news of the 'Gold-Gold Fruit.' After that, he became curious about the fruit and investigated a lot of related information. The more he learned, the more his desire grew.

He simply lacked the power to steal cargo from the Donquixote Family. Based on the timeline, the Gold-Gold Fruit should already be in Doflamingo's hands.

If not for Smoker and Diarmuid, Tesoro would have followed the clue meticulously. Ultimately, years later, when Doflamingo brought out the Gold-Gold Fruit as a 'showpiece' for an auction, Tesoro would have delivered a fatal strike, stolen the fruit, and fled.

That's right, there were a few years between Doflamingo acquiring the Gold-Gold Fruit and him using it as an auction spectacle.

Doflamingo hadn't originally intended to sell the fruit; he wanted to wait for a suitable person to eat the ability. He just never expected the fruit to be stolen mid-way by Tesoro before he could find that person.

It was precisely because Tesoro had planned for years that he was able to use a small gamble to steal the cargo of the Heavenly Yaksha, Doflamingo.

If he had acted too hastily, how could he have had the power to snatch the fruit the moment Doflamingo brought it out?

Did he really think Doflamingo was an easy target?

However, the situation had now changed. Tesoro still received the news of the Gold-Gold Fruit, but he no longer planned to scheme to steal the Devil Fruit himself.

He intended to join Smoker and see if he could use Smoker's power to quickly obtain the Gold-Gold Fruit.

"You have enormous guts. You dare to covet the Heavenly Yaksha's cargo?" Smoker said with a smile.

"Compared to you, the Heavenly Yaksha is nothing," Tesoro said without hesitation.

"Then you greatly underestimate that guy," Smoker said calmly. It was clear that Tesoro might have some understanding of Doflamingo, but it was definitely not deep.

Otherwise, if he truly understood Doflamingo, he would never have the audacity to make a move against him.

Before Tesoro could speak again, Smoker smiled and asked, "What would you do if I didn't agree?"

"I will find a way to resolve it myself," Tesoro said firmly.

"Find a way, you? You'd die..." Smoker said contemptuously.

This time, however, Tesoro looked up at Smoker, his eyes filled with solemnity and determination. "I have nothing but this life. So, to become a man above others, to become a magnate, and never be humiliated again, I can only bet my life, Boss Smoker!"

This rotten life of mine, after Stella died, has long been worthless. What is there to cherish?

If there truly was a chance for a 'big gamble, big reward,' Tesoro would absolutely not hesitate to risk his life!

"Hahahahaha..." Smoker suddenly burst out laughing, then said, "Of all the things you've said, only that last sentence has earned my respect..."

Chapter 257: Have Rosinante Pocket the Gold-Gold Fruit?!

New World, Marine Base G-1.

Diarmuid sat in a designated office, accepting a fax from Hina. He spoke into the Den Den Mushi on the desk: "I've received the plan... What did he say?"

The person on the other end was Smoker.

After taking care of the Straw Hat Pirates, Diarmuid did not return to Marineford but stopped at G-1. Sakazuki returned with the main force, taking Shanks and Ben Beckman with him.

Diarmuid's only purpose at G-1 was cleanup. After making such a grand entrance into the New World, he couldn't just slip away silently.

He needed to conduct some nominal activities, such as inspecting the status of the New World's G-1 Base.

After lingering for three to five days and making an appearance in the newspapers, he would leave.

He had just arrived at G-1 today when he received news from Smoker about Gild Tesoro's surrender.

Diarmuid was quite surprised by this.

He had noticed Tesoro years ago and sent people to search for him, but they failed, and the matter was dropped.

Despite that result, it didn't mean Diarmuid didn't value Tesoro; on the contrary, he valued him greatly.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have quickly notified Smoker and Stussy after the Mariejois arson incident, instructing them to keep an eye out for this man in the New World.

In Diarmuid's plan to break the Marine's economic shackles, Tesoro was the final piece.

If he could secure Tesoro and support him in establishing an organization like Gran Tesoro, once that project was on track, the Marine's economy would be completely unshackled.

The funding and profit-making capability of the 'Golden City' were undeniable. With the Calm Belt and the Amway Group following suit, the Marine's economy would be walking on two legs. There would be no fear of an issue in one area causing a system-wide collapse.

Once that stage was reached, Diarmuid would no longer need to pretend to cooperate with the World Government.

However, since Diarmuid had never received any news of Tesoro, he had been suspicious that perhaps one of his own 'butterfly flaps' had somehow made the man disappear.

If such a thing really happened, there would be no recourse, so he hadn't put all his eggs in the Tesoro basket.

He was making contingency plans. The Amway Group, run by Smoker and Stussy, was actually where Diarmuid scouted for talent. Although the Amway Group primarily relied on power, connections, and the abundant resources of the Calm Belt to make money—following a simple path with no deep commercial strategy—it was still capable of nurturing people. If he could find someone talented and insightful there, Diarmuid was prepared to groom them to replace Tesoro.

But now, just when Diarmuid thought the man was dead and gone, Tesoro popped up.

And he even brought a business proposal.

While listening to Smoker's report on the Den Den Mushi, Diarmuid examined the proposal. He wasn't a business expert either, but with his perspective and foresight from the Information Age, he wasn't completely clueless and understood its potential, certainly more so than Smoker.

Just by glancing at it, Diarmuid could appreciate its value.

The Amway Group was currently growing wildly, relying on power, connections, and the massive resources of the Calm Belt to make money.

There was no sophistication to it.

Tesoro's business plan, however, offered many innovative and highly actionable ideas. If implemented properly, the Amway Group's business growth rate could accelerate, its scale could expand, and it could earn far more Berries.

Quite interesting.

However, Diarmuid wasn't overly concerned with the details. He simply used the plan to confirm that Tesoro possessed talent and potential, then tossed the plan onto the table.

Given his position, he didn't need to scrutinize these matters; he only needed to wait for his subordinates to deliver results.

"Is that so?" Diarmuid smiled, then said, "He wants financial support, to fly your flag, and to personally implement these plans, you can agree to all of that. You can also grant him a certain status. But this Gold-Gold Fruit... Heh, what colossal ambition."

It didn't matter what Tesoro asked for, and Diarmuid wasn't worried about him growing too powerful and breaking free of control.

In reality, Tesoro couldn't break free of that control.

In the original story, he became the boss of the Gran Tesoro, possessing immense wealth. The World Government had to at least feign respect for him, and he even established the only universally recognized neutral zone in the world.

But what was the result?

The moment the Straw Hat Pirates defeated him, the World Government immediately turned hostile and arrested him.

Was this because of the Straw Hat Pirates?

Not necessarily. Perhaps the World Government had long wanted to deal with him, to drink his blood and eat his flesh.

The so-called 'Golden Emperor,' Gild Tesoro, might have just been a 'fat pig' raised by the World Government.

Thinking deeper, Tesoro was likely aware of this, and he might even have ways to convince the World Government not to move against him.

But before he could sort those things out, Monkey D. Luffy destroyed him.

In short, even if Tesoro became the wealthiest man and the 'Golden Emperor,' he would still need a backer, and that backer needed to be incredibly strong.

His own strength and influence weren't enough to support his vast wealth, so someone had to support him.

Diarmuid and the Marines were perfectly suited to play this role.

"Yes, he has great ambition. Should I take him out? Or should I refuse his request for the Devil Fruit?" Smoker asked on the phone.

Diarmuid thought for a moment, shook his head, and said, "There's no need. But tell him it won't be that simple. Let him focus on his work first and see his accomplishments. Tell him not to rush about the Gold-Gold Fruit, and say that you will handle it."

Smoker wasn't surprised. He had plenty of contact with Doflamingo and their relationship was good. Naturally, he knew Doflamingo needed the Marines' favor and was also terrified of his own Admiral Diarmuid.

If the Admiral intervened, getting the Gold-Gold Fruit should be manageable.

He just couldn't let Tesoro think it was too easy to obtain. Better to grind the man down a little first.

"Yes, I understand, Admiral," Smoker replied.

"Don't let him access classified information, but for everything else, let him work freely. I have high hopes for this kid's ability to make money, and I expect him to deliver a sufficient surprise," Diarmuid instructed again.

"Understood," Smoker nodded.

"Mm, anything else?" Diarmuid asked.

Smoker hesitated slightly, then said, "Boss, it's late 1510 now. It's been eight years, almost nine. This is truly 'three years and three years, and three years and three years.' It's almost ten years..."

"Cough, cough. The organization trusts your loyalty, Smoker, don't worry. Do a good job. I have things to do, so I'm hanging up now." Diarmuid quickly brushed him off and ended the Den Den Mushi call.

Smoker stared blankly at the disconnected Den Den Mushi. Was I even talking about loyalty?

But soon, he smiled helplessly. Forget it. Ever since I was conned into leaving Marineford that year, I fell into this deep pit. Now I can't even crawl out!

On the other side, after putting away the Den Den Mushi, Diarmuid looked at Hina. "Take this document and burn it."

Hina picked up the business proposal from the desk and nodded. "Yes, Admiral."

"Any news from Headquarters? Have Whitebeard and Big Mom started fighting yet?" Diarmuid took a sip of tea and asked.

"No, how could they start fighting so quickly? They might not even fight before we get back to Marineford. As for Headquarters, I heard Admiral Sengoku took on a political mission... other than that, no major news," Hina said with a chuckle.

"A political mission?" Diarmuid was somewhat surprised.

He had taken on political missions before, such as handling the issue of the Sorbet Kingdom—the Bartholomew Kuma situation.

However, after the relationship between the Marines and the World Government fractured, the term 'political mission' hadn't been heard for many years.

The fact that Sengoku suddenly received a political mission suggested, to some extent, that the World Government and the Marines had reconciled.

"Yes. It's not top secret. I heard the higher-ups want Admiral Sengoku to find the Op-Op Fruit," Hina said casually.

Before Diarmuid could speak, Hina asked curiously, "Admiral, is the Op-Op Fruit that powerful? Why are the higher-ups putting so much importance on it? Admiral Sengoku even re-issued a 5 billion Berry bounty for it in the underworld."

Hina had only heard rumors and naturally didn't understand the significance of the Op-Op Fruit.

Diarmuid was surprised when he first heard the news, but he quickly concealed his astonishment and said with a chuckle, "It's quite formidable. Rumor has it that this Devil Fruit can grant a person the power of eternal life..."

Hina: ???

I just asked a casual question, and I got such huge gossip?

Eternal life?

"Oh my..." Hina murmured in surprise, then her eyes sparkled. "Can it grant eternal youth? Like, if I ate the Op-Op Fruit, I could stay this beautiful forever? Ah, what a shame, I'm already a Devil Fruit user..."

"Why are you so arrogant? 'Stay this beautiful forever' means you think you're very beautiful, huh?" Diarmuid teased with a smile.

"Isn't that obvious?" Hina scoffed playfully.

By her expression, she was clearly quite pleased with herself.

It must be said that over the years, Hina had indeed become more stunning. Both her figure and her face had matured, losing some of their youthful innocence and gaining more beauty.

"The user of the Op-Op Fruit dies when they perform that ability, so don't think of it as a good thing," Diarmuid suddenly interjected.

Then, before Hina could speak again, Diarmuid waved his hand, signaling her to be quiet. He picked up the Den Den Mushi and called Sengoku.

In a moment, Sengoku answered the Den Den Mushi. "Diarmuid? What's wrong? Any problems at G-1?"

"No problems at G-1, Admiral Sengoku," Diarmuid replied casually, then asked, "I hear you took on a political mission? Looking for the Op-Op Fruit? Hahahaha, have you found any leads?"

Sengoku wasn't taking the matter seriously, so he wasn't secretive about it, otherwise, Hina wouldn't have heard the rumors. Hearing Diarmuid's question, Sengoku laughed and scolded, "How could I find a lead that easily? Why, do you have a connection?"

"I don't have a damn thing," Diarmuid said with a chuckle. After a brief pause, he continued, "It's like this, Admiral. Can you give me Rosinante's contact information?"

"What for?" Sengoku asked cautiously.

"I need him to help me out. I want a certain item Doflamingo has," Diarmuid didn't conceal anything and stated it directly.

"What item?" Sengoku asked, curious.

"The Gold-Gold Fruit, a Paramecia ability. I have a big plan that requires this fruit's assistance. I've already found a lead: the fruit is in Doflamingo's hands. Rosinante has been following Doflamingo for so many years without much purpose; I suggest we pull him out. Before he returns, can he perhaps 'pocket' the Gold-Gold Fruit for me? Hahaha," Diarmuid laughed loudly.

Sengoku had started looking for the Op-Op Fruit, which meant trouble was brewing at Minion Island soon. In Diarmuid's mind, Rosinante was the likely scapegoat in that incident. If he could use this opportunity to pull him out early, it would be a way to repay the young man for his past friendship.

Chapter 258: Even Though I Smoke, Drink, and Get a Perm, I'm Still a Good Admiral!

Hearing Diarmuid's words, Sengoku sounded surprised. "What big plan do you have now?"

"It's a plan about making money, of course. The Gold-Gold Fruit is surely related to gold," Diarmuid said with a chuckle.

"Are you planning to make fake gold? Have some decency!" Sengoku suddenly exclaimed.

Diarmuid: ???

The Gold-Gold Fruit could indeed create gold, but that gold was, in fact, fake; it would quickly revert to its original form if the Devil Fruit user died.

But Diarmuid had genuinely not considered creating fake gold, as it would cause endless chaos, much like counterfeit currency.

But why are your thoughts so scandalous, Admiral Sengoku?

Have you already contemplated these things?

"What fake gold? Familiarity is one thing, but if you speak nonsense like that, I'll sue you for defamation just the same. I am an Admiral of Justice!" Diarmuid declared with righteous indignation.

Sengoku breathed a sigh of relief. Whatever Diarmuid did, the Marines would ultimately have to endorse it. If any problems arose in the future, the Marines' credibility would be shattered.

"I found a talented individual. Maybe in the future, I'll let him open a casino or something. We'll be raking in money daily then," Diarmuid said, chuckling.

The breath Sengoku had just released was sucked back in. He couldn't help but say, "Diarmuid, you sell tobacco, engage in smuggling, use hundreds of thousands of pirate slaves for mining in the Calm Belt, sell arms with Doflamingo, and you've got a hand in the Pleasure District's shady business. And now you want to open a casino? You just said you were a Marine Admiral! I, Sengoku, have surveyed the eight hundred years of Marine history, and I cannot find an Admiral like you!"

"Hey, Admiral, isn't that a bit like burning the bridge after crossing? How could the Marine's development and military budget these years manage without the things you just mentioned? Even though I sell tobacco, engage in smuggling, use slaves, sell arms, run the Pleasure District project, and want to open a casino, I still believe I am an upright and kind Marine Admiral," Diarmuid retorted without reservation.

Sengoku was speaking the truth—in the hundreds of years of Marine history, there was no Admiral like this.

Diarmuid was also speaking the truth. Of all the shady businesses he ran for profit, had he kept a single Berry for himself? Hadn't it all been contributed to the Marines? Wasn't that the definition of a good Admiral?

"I just feel a bit uneasy about it all..." Sengoku muttered softly.

It was evident his heart was deeply conflicted. Otherwise, he wouldn't have instantly handed over the Marine's economic and development authority to Diarmuid, and both he and the Fleet Admiral would have been completely hands-off about whatever Diarmuid did in that area. Why?

Out of sight, out of mind.

It wasn't that Sengoku was inflexible, otherwise Diarmuid wouldn't have been able to grow so powerful. It was just that occasionally, when he thought of these things, he felt conflicted. This was normal. The old man had upheld Justice and fought for the Marines his entire life. Now, he was dealing with an eccentric Admiral like Diarmuid, who engaged in all these flamboyant activities. Even if Sengoku knew it was for the good of the Marines and Diarmuid had no personal gain, it still caused him some internal struggle.

However, Diarmuid had no intention of indulging Sengoku. He pushed the conversation further: "To be honest, I've always felt uneasy too, Admiral. I am such an upright and kind person, and now I've become this. Every day when I sleep, I worry whether the mine in the Calm Belt has collapsed, whether more people have been crushed to death. My conscience is troubled. How about we just stop, Admiral?"

"Stop what?" Sengoku asked, surprised.

"Let's halt all these projects. That way, we'll feel better," Diarmuid said, pretending to be serious.

Sengoku's tone suddenly tightened, and he quickly said, "Diarmuid, you have to be strong! I've ruined half my moral integrity for you, and now you're talking about cleaning up your act and going legit?"

"But didn't you say your conscience was troubled?" Diarmuid said faintly.

"What conscience? What trouble? What conscience do I, Sengoku, even have? It's just opening a casino, right? Go ahead and do it! If anything goes wrong, I'll take responsibility for you," Sengoku immediately declared.

Are you kidding me? The current situation of the Marines was excellent. Outside, Sakazuki was acting as the crew's hard-hitting enforcer, and inside, Diarmuid was making money like crazy. Both military power and the economy were rapidly growing.

Sengoku, as the internal choice for the next Fleet Admiral, overseeing the big picture, could clearly see that since Diarmuid's Calm Belt project began and up until his current tenure as Admiral, the Marine's condition had improved year after year.

For such enormous benefits, conscience? Why would I need such a thing?

Can a conscience kill pirates? Can a conscience bring peace to the Great Pirate Era?

Of course, Sengoku knew this scoundrel Diarmuid was joking. He felt slightly exasperated, thinking, This kid, he doesn't consider the feelings of an old man like me.

But what could he do? Who could blame him when the boy was reliable in crucial moments?

"Hahahaha, with you, the future Fleet Admiral, vouching for me, I feel much more secure! I promise I won't disappoint you," Diarmuid laughed heartily.

"You brat," Sengoku chuckled, scolding him again.

Only then did he speak seriously again: "Speaking of which, I spoke with Rosinante half a month ago. I was already planning to have him pull out of the Donquixote Family. After all, Doflamingo hasn't posed much of a threat these past few years for some reason. Keeping him there is not only useless but also very dangerous. He's had enough field experience. When he returns, let him work under Tsuru for two more years. Even if his strength is lacking, if I promote him to Rear Admiral, no one will object."

"Exactly. I also think we don't need eyes on Doflamingo anymore. It's too dangerous near that guy. Doflamingo is crazy enough to kill his own father. If Rosinante is exposed, his life will truly be in danger... Let him 'pocket' the Gold-Gold Fruit this time, and then he can come back," Diarmuid said earnestly.

"Mm. I'll give you his Den Den Mushi number. You can talk to him yourself," Sengoku said with a smile.

....

The first half of the Grand Line, Drum Kingdom.

The Drum Kingdom was a winter island, covered in snow year-round with a bitterly cold climate.

However, the Drum Kingdom held an excellent international status because it was a major medical power. The country's medical standard was superb, and it exported a large number of outstanding doctors every year, cooperating with many countries on medical projects.

The people of this country took pride in becoming doctors.

It was said that five out of ten internationally famous doctors originated from the Drum Kingdom, and at least three of the remaining five had studied there.

It was that impressive.

But later, after Wapol ascended to the throne, the country's doctors were systematically persecuted, nearly destroying the Drum Kingdom.

However, Wapol was currently still a spoiled prince, not yet King.

The medical research atmosphere in the country was still very strong.

In a medical center, Rosinante was sitting with the child, Trafalgar D. Water Law, in a consultation room, listening to an old specialist speak.

"We have figured out the mechanism of the Amber Lead Disease. It is a trace metallic toxin, which isn't unusual. In fact, we occasionally encounter these in our lives, like mercury... But what sets Amber Lead apart is that it is hereditary, which baffles us. Furthermore, other trace metallic toxins are typically expelled by the body's metabolism. Some mild conditions can be resolved just by drinking more water... But Amber Lead, once it enters the body, can never be removed. With current medical technology, it is simply incurable. I am very sorry, Rosinante-san." The old specialist shook his head.

He looked at the unfortunate child, Trafalgar Law, with pity and sadness.

Law was expressionless, even slightly amused. He never believed his disease could be cured from the start. Lately, Corazon (Rosinante) had been acting strangely, dragging him to see doctors everywhere, as if he wouldn't give up until Law was cured.

But reality was cruel. After visiting so many famous doctors, the answer was always the same: "It can't be cured. Prepare for death, and say your goodbyes."

"Is there really no way at all? He's just a child. Are we just going to watch this young life..." Rosinante said with a sorrowful expression.

The old specialist was also helpless. As a doctor, he was accustomed to seeing life and death, but as a person, he still couldn't bear it.

Whenever he witnessed such things, he always felt a pang of sadness.

After a short silence, the old specialist said, "There are possibilities, yes. Two methods."

Rosinante, who had been on the verge of despair, instantly perked up. He said, "Please tell me."

"Legend has it that two hundred years ago, alchemists researched a very peculiar metal called 'Pure Gold.' If this metal is worn on the body, it can greatly slow down a person's metabolism. In other words, it fixes a person's physical state in one phase. You could also see it as eternal life... If we can just keep this child alive, perhaps in a few decades, we might have the technology to cure the Amber Lead Disease," the old specialist said.

Rosinante was taken aback. He thought about it carefully and realized he had heard of this. He was small back then, and still a noble Celestial Dragon.

Pure Gold did exist two hundred years ago; even the Celestial Dragons were attracted to it. However, the attempt to acquire it failed, no one got the Pure Gold, and now no one knew where it was.

The technology to create Pure Gold had, of course, been lost...

What's the use of telling me this?

So, Rosinante immediately asked, "I know about Pure Gold. What is the second method?"

The old specialist didn't mind Rosinante's impatience; he had seen this often enough.

He smiled and said, "The second method would be a medical-type Devil Fruit ability. I can't guarantee anything else, but the top medical ability, rumored to break through all incurable diseases... the Op-Op Fruit. If we could acquire the power of this fruit, treating the Amber Lead Disease would be no problem at all. However..."

"However, the Op-Op Fruit has been missing for decades," Rosinante said heavily.

He knew this, too.

In fact, he knew even more. For example, the old specialist didn't know that the Op-Op Fruit could also grant eternal life!

Rosinante was very much aware of this secret.

"The Op-Op Fruit...?" Rosinante murmured, a flicker of determination crossing his eyes.

No matter what, the Op-Op Fruit was much more reliable than Pure Gold.

Law's time was running out. It seemed he had to accelerate his search for the Op-Op Fruit!

"Thank you very much, Doctor Nightingale," Rosinante said thankfully.

"Hehehe, it's nothing. It's just a shame I couldn't solve your problem. My title as 'Soul Hunter of the Underworld' is truly getting old," Doctor Nightingale said, waving his hand with a smile.

After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Rosinante led Trafalgar Law out of the consultation room.

As they walked, a Den Den Mushi on his person suddenly rang. Rosinante's expression changed. He looked left and right, pulled out the Den Den Mushi, and then his expression shifted to one of surprise and delight.

Diarmuid-nii?

"Diarmuid-nii?" Rosinante answered the Den Den Mushi.

"It's been a long time since I've heard your voice, Rosinante. Where are you?" Diarmuid asked, chuckling.

Rosinante didn't hide anything and replied directly, "I'm in the Drum Kingdom."

"Drum Kingdom? What did you go there for?" Diarmuid asked in surprise.

At this moment, Trafalgar Law, standing beside Rosinante, looked at him in surprise... Diarmuid?

Isn't Diarmuid the name of that Marine Admiral?

Chapter 259: Excuse Me, My Dad is a Marine Admiral?!

Law had long been suspicious of Rosinante's true identity.

Although Rosinante never spoke of it, Law felt that Rosinante was not at all like a pirate. When they first met, he violently chased away all the children adopted by the Donquixote Family, and only Law, Baby 5, and Buffalo stubbornly remained.

At that time, Law truly believed he was a vicious pirate.

But later, Law discovered that this 'Mr. Corazon' was a somewhat clumsy but exceptionally kind person.

Otherwise, why would he take Law all over the world searching for doctors, desperate to save him?

Travel is often the best way to reveal a person's true nature. Law and Rosinante had been traveling together for a long time, seeking famous doctors everywhere. Everything Law saw and heard along the way made him feel that Cora-san was a good man.

He was polite to everyone, and he never did anything evil. He even helped rescue street orphans.

Is that something a pirate would do?

Therefore, Law had long harbored doubts about Rosinante's identity, though he had never asked about it. His cold heart had already been warmed by Cora-san.

Today, he finally heard Rosinante's 'little secret': he knew a Marine Admiral?

And judging by the way he spoke, he seemed incredibly familiar with this Admiral, calling him "Big Brother"!

Although young, Law was very clever. He vaguely understood that his Cora-san might be a Marine.

Truthfully, Law's impression of the Marines and the World Government was poor, especially the World Government. In his view, the World Government was at least fifty percent responsible for the destruction of Flevance.

As for the Marines, all one could say was that they were inactive.

But now, upon learning that Cora-san might be a Marine, Law's perception of the organization became even more complex.

He had believed all Marines were hypocrites, proclaiming 'Justice' but failing to save his country.

But looking at Cora-san if he was a Marine, then perhaps the Marines weren't as bad as he imagined? And the Marine Admiral who was good friends with Cora-san and called 'Big Brother' must also be a good person, since he was Cora-san's older brother figure.

In Law's heart, the fondness for Cora-san naturally extended to the Admiral. Although he had never met Diarmuid, he already held a good impression of him.

The boy who had once stormed the Donquixote Family headquarters, strapped with bombs, was no longer thinking about destroying the world.

Cora-san... Rosinante, the saint, had ultimately used his kindness to rescue a person from the abyss of destruction.

Rosinante might be a disaster for others. To Doflamingo, this younger brother was a burden who betrayed his trust.

To Sengoku, this foster son was a disaster who betrayed his trust.

To the Marines, Rosinante was undoubtedly a betrayer of their faith.

However, to the child Trafalgar Law, Donquixote Rosinante, his Cora-san, was undoubtedly the most precious beam of light in his darkest life.

He was the only person who reached out and pulled him back when he was falling into the abyss.

The boy no longer wanted to destroy the world or kill more people.

The child now sometimes thought that if his Amber Lead Disease could truly be cured, he would simply forget about the Donquixote Family and follow Cora-san.

"Ah..." Rosinante muttered awkwardly, then said, "I'm taking a little kid to see a doctor."

"A little kid, you say?" Diarmuid chuckled, then asked, "Is that so? How is the illness?"

Rosinante realized he might have exposed something, but it seemed inappropriate to try to speak privately while avoiding Law now.

He hesitated for a moment, but after looking down at the trusting gaze of the boy, Rosinante sighed and said, "It's bad. It's the Amber Lead Disease."

"Amber Lead, huh..." Diarmuid murmured on the other end. He then said, "You really are as kind as you used to be. You know Amber Lead is incurable, but you're still stubbornly throwing yourself into it?"

"I have to try, no matter what," Rosinante said very seriously.

"Well, whatever you like. You never listen to advice anyway," Diarmuid joked.

A smile appeared on Rosinante's face, but before he could speak, Diarmuid asked again, "Can you speak freely?"

Rosinante glanced at Law, then replied sincerely, "Yes, I can."

Law froze for a second, then lowered his head, his eyes flashing with delight and relief.

Sure enough, Cora-san trusts me.

"Your old man told you already, right? To stop lurking in the Donquixote Family. Doflamingo has been behaving strangely these past few years and doesn't pose much of a threat. There's no use keeping you there, and it's dangerous, so hurry up and pull out. Once you're back, your old man will arrange for you to stay in the Intelligence Division for two years and then promote you to Rear Admiral," Diarmuid said casually.

Law was completely bewildered. Isn't Cora-san Doflamingo's biological younger brother?

Then who is his 'old man'?

Isn't that Doflamingo's father?

Is their father still alive?

Then what did Doflamingo mean when he said Cora-san was his only blood relative left...

"Admiral Sengoku did tell me. I've been considering it, but I've been undercover for so many years and haven't accomplished anything significant. Wouldn't it be too embarrassing to sneak back now, oniisan..." Rosinante said somewhat helplessly.

"It's good enough if you can return safely," Diarmuid said softly first, then continued, "But setting aside your old man for a moment, I have a request. See if you can handle it. If you can, help me do it. If not, I'll figure something else out."

"Just tell me, oniisan," Rosinante replied with a smile.

"According to our intelligence, Doflamingo has a Gold-Gold Fruit, a Paramecia ability, in his possession. I need this Devil Fruit now. Can you manage to get it?" Diarmuid asked.

"Ah..." Rosinante hesitated, looking troubled.

At this moment, Law was completely stunned. He wasn't stupid. He naturally understood that Cora-san's 'old man' was Admiral Sengoku of Marine Headquarters!

Holy cow!?

That's a high status!

He also confirmed that Cora-san was a Marine, merely an agent undercover in the Donquixote Family!

Rosinante's difficulty wasn't that the mission was dangerous. In fact, if the Gold-Gold Fruit was truly in Doflamingo's or the Donquixote Family's hands, he had many ways to get it.

The crucial point was that he didn't have enough time! He needed to take Law to find the Op-Op Fruit, and he had no leads on it. Law didn't have long to live, so they had to race against the clock.

In this situation, going after the Gold-Gold Fruit...

It was possible that by the time he secured the Gold-Gold Fruit, the boy Law would have already died from the disease.

"Is something wrong?" Diarmuid asked on the Den Den Mushi.

"Yes, time is the issue," Rosinante said heavily.

"Time?" Diarmuid sounded surprised.

"Exactly. The boy with Amber Lead Disease, his time is limited. Dr. Nightingale, the 'National Doctor' of the Drum Kingdom, told me that perhaps the Op-Op Fruit could cure his disease. I was just about to take him to search for the Op-Op Fruit..." Rosinante explained without reservation.

'National Doctor' was an honor reserved for the top doctors in the Drum Kingdom. Nightingale, known as the 'Soul Hunter of the Underworld,' was one of them.

Diarmuid fell silent for a moment, then said, "Alright, I'll figure out another way for that matter. You focus on what you're doing."

Rosinante sighed with relief, his gratitude toward Diarmuid's care deepening.

Saving the child Law from Amber Lead Disease was his personal mission, while the task assigned by Admiral Diarmuid was an official request.

Yet, when he expressed a small difficulty, Diarmuid immediately accommodated him. How could he not be grateful?

"Onii-san, if you still haven't managed it by then, I'll go help you get the Gold-Gold Fruit after I cure Law..." Rosinante quickly said.

"Hahahaha, the thought is what counts. Law... is that the boy's name?" Diarmuid asked.

"Mm, Trafalgar D. Water Law," Rosinante said with a smile.

"That's a good name. I think he will live. Meeting you is his good fortune," Diarmuid said.

After chatting a little longer, the two hung up the Den Den Mushi.

Law finally spoke. "Cora-san, are you a Marine?"

Rosinante was silent for a moment, then nodded. "That's right. I'm a Commander at Marine Headquarters, a member of the Intelligence Division's Special Operations Team, codenamed Corazon."

"And the person just now, is he a Marine Admiral?" Law asked again.

"Hehehe, that's right. That's Marine Admiral Rodriguez Diarmuid. I've known him since I was about your age. He looked out for me a lot back then, and he even saved my life from Shiki in the North Blue... I've always considered him my older brother," Rosinante said with a smile. When he mentioned Diarmuid, his eyes were full of respect and admiration.

"Is he a good person? A good person like you?" Law asked curiously.

"A good person?" Rosinante murmured, then shook his head. "Probably not."

But after saying that, Rosinante reached out and rubbed Law's head, smiling as he said, "Law, you're still young, so it seems to you that the world is only made up of good people or bad people, black and white... But when you get older, you'll realize that many things, and many people, can't be defined by simple good or bad."

Law nodded, half understanding, but didn't ask any more questions.

Seeing this, Rosinante didn't say anything further either. He took Law's small hand and said with a smile, "Let's go."

"Where are we going, Cora-san?" Law asked.

"Let's head back to the North Blue first, to the Donquixote Family's territory," Rosinante said softly.

It would be a pipe dream for him to find the Op-Op Fruit alone. As for using Marine resources, he definitely couldn't ask for it, as this was a private matter. Diarmuid had already been very generous; he couldn't push his luck.

Therefore, he could only return to the Donquixote Family to see if he could gather any intelligence there. And, perhaps, see if he could help his good onii-san get the Gold-Gold Fruit.

That's right. Even though Diarmuid didn't demand it, Rosinante still took the task to heart.

Meanwhile, back at G-1 in the New World, Diarmuid looked at the disconnected Den Den Mushi, feeling a headache.

He had planned to pull Rosinante out of the entire Op-Op Fruit affair, but now he realized it was impossible.

If the boy hadn't learned that the Op-Op Fruit could cure Law's disease, he might have been able to manipulate the situation.

Now... it was difficult.

As for the Gold-Gold Fruit, without Rosinante's help, Diarmuid had other ways, including directly extorting Doflamingo.

He wasn't overly concerned about that.

After a long silence, Diarmuid sighed. "Forget it. Maybe Trafalgar Law meeting you was truly fate, meaning he wasn't meant to die. And maybe you, you damn saint, meeting me back then meant you weren't meant to die..."

To pull Rosinante out would be to abandon Law's life. Given Rosinante's nature, he would never agree.

Since that scoundrel called him 'onii-san' and had always admired and respected him since childhood, saving his life was the least he could do at this point.

"Based on the timeline, I can still make it to the North Blue..." Diarmuid thought for a moment and muttered.

Whether it was the Op-Op Fruit or the Gold-Gold Fruit, he had to make a trip to the North Blue to see Rosinante, to see Trafalgar Law, and to see... Doflamingo.

Chapter 260: Hina: My First Kiss! You Scoundrel!

In the year 1511 of the Sea Calendar.

Rear Admiral Boa Hancock of Marine G-7 secretly resigned from the Marine ranks and returned to Amazon Lily, taking the position of Empress of Amazon Lily.

Immediately following this, she inherited the generations-old Kuja Pirates and formally became a glorious pirate.

Amazon Lily itself had a formidable heritage, with the entire nation possessing Haki—which was certainly no joke. As royalty, the secret training methods they possessed were naturally even more advanced.

Boa Hancock had also received the Paramecia-type Love-Love Fruit as a gift from Diarmuid. Combined with her peerless beauty and nation-toppling charm, the potential of this Devil Fruit was immeasurable.

Therefore, Hancock's Haki power, her combat skills inherited from Amazon Lily, and her Devil Fruit ability were all at their peak.

Having spent several years in the Marines, she had also learned some Marine techniques, such as Rokushiki.

With Gion's tutelage, even at only eighteen years old, Hancock was already very strong, certainly stronger than she was in the original story.

In the original story, Hancock’s debut on the seas at age eighteen stunned the world. She single-handedly crushed a country, seizing all its wealth, thereby successfully completing her first 'Empress' Hunt.'

This also marked the re-entry of the veteran Kuja Pirates onto the world stage.

With the fame of the Kuja Pirates, her own beauty and strength, and her stunning debut, Hancock was invited by the World Government to join the Warlords of the Sea after her first voyage.

For the sake of Amazon Lily, she suppressed the hatred she held for the World Government and accepted the position of Warlord of the Sea.

This time, the situation was similar.

By the time Diarmuid reached the North Blue, Hancock had completed her 'Empress' Hunt.' It wasn't quite as wild as in the original story, where she took down an entire country.

However, she had conquered many pirates across the seas, including several with bounties exceeding 100 million Berries.

Furthermore, she had petrified an entire Marine fleet, including two Marine Headquarters Vice Admirals.

The power of the Paramecia-type Love-Love Fruit was simply unreasonable. Regardless of gender, age, or strength, as long as you felt attraction to Hancock or harbored any kind of desire toward her charm, her ability would take effect on you.

It was utterly ridiculous.

Thanks to this outstanding combat record, and with a nudge from Stussy's people in the CP organization, the World Government quickly noticed Hancock.

It was said that by the time Diarmuid arrived in the North Blue, the invitation for Hancock, the captain of the Kuja Pirates, to become a Warlord of the Sea had already been delivered to Amazon Lily.

Hancock accepted the invitation without hesitation.

Thus, the current Empress of Amazon Lily and Captain of the Kuja Pirates, Pirate Empress Boa Hancock, with a bounty of 230 million Berries, officially joined the Warlords of the Sea organization, becoming the fifth Warlord.

Before this, Boa Hancock was virtually unknown on the seas, with almost no one knowing of her existence.

Her rise to fame overnight and her ascendance to the Warlords of the Sea meant the title 'Pirate Empress' instantly spread throughout the entire world.

Big News Morgans' World Economy News Paper dedicated significant space to introducing the Kuja Pirates, who had been dormant for many years, and the coveted Maiden Island, Amazon Lily.

The sales of the newspapers containing these reports absolutely soared.

It wasn't that people were particularly interested in the Kuja Pirates or Amazon Lily.

It was Hancock's overwhelming beauty. The day her full-body photo in a Qipao appeared on the front page, the World Economy News Paper sold like crazy, requiring reprinting for several consecutive days.

Countless people bought the newspaper, completely ignoring the content, and simply cut out Hancock's picture for their collections.

Not only did the newspaper sell out, but the wanted posters of Hancock issued by Marine Headquarters were also in short supply. Even market vendors felt compelled to take one, solemnly swearing they would capture Hancock.

In reality, they just went home and plastered the wanted poster on their wall for continuous viewing, day and night.

In short, Hancock's debut at the beginning of 1511 set off a global frenzy. Her popularity that year was less like that of a pirate and more like a massive, newly emergent superstar.

Men, women, and children were all captivated by her beauty.

Soon after, in a poll conducted by the World Economy News Paper, Hancock won by an absolute majority, being publicly elected by people all over the world as the 'World's Most Beautiful Woman.'

Her popularity was explosive.

Of course, this was merely a beauty contest organized by the World Economy News Paper.

The World Government also held similar, more official beauty pageants. The 'World's Most Beautiful Woman' officially recognized by the World Government later on was actually Princess Shirahoshi of Fish-Man Island, who was only just born around this time.

But those contests were much more political, and generally, the public didn't pay much attention. Conversely, popular elections like the one run by the World Economy News Paper were more widely recognized and welcomed.

If Diarmuid remembered correctly, from the year Hancock turned eighteen, the Sea Calendar year 1511, she claimed the title of 'World's Most Beautiful Woman' and retained it for over ten years, with her position in the realm of beauty never being shaken, overwhelmingly beating out the competition every single year.

North Blue.

A large, standard Marine Headquarters warship. Diarmuid was sitting on a folding stool on the deck, fishing. The sea breeze billowed the Justice coat trailing behind him on the ground, making a whooshing sound.

Next to him, Hina was sitting cross-legged on the deck with a newspaper in hand. She showed no ladylike grace, wearing sunglasses and biting down on a half-burnt cigar.

Her long pink hair fluttered in the wind, and her delicate face was creased with a slight frown of annoyance.

"Admiral!" Hina suddenly called out.

Diarmuid stared motionlessly at his fishing rod. Without turning his head, he asked, "What is it?"

"If I sent my photo to the World Economy News Paper and participated in this beauty contest, could I beat Hancock?" Hina asked seriously, looking at the side of Diarmuid's face, extinguishing her cigar as she did so.

Diarmuid finally took his eyes off the fishing rod and looked at Hina, chuckling. "You don't look like a lady at all. I've never sat cross-legged on the deck like you. Good thing you're not wearing a skirt, or I'd be looking right up it..."

"What does being a lady matter? As long as I'm beautiful, that's enough, right?" Hina said uncaringly. She then took off her sunglasses, poked her own cheek, and asked again, "Admiral, look at my face. Where am I inferior to Hancock?"

Diarmuid rolled his eyes and complained, "Are you really that invested in this?"

Hina nodded seriously. "The World's Most Beautiful Woman! I think that title is even more appealing than the World's Strongest..."

"Maybe..." Diarmuid dismissed her helplessly.

"Who is more beautiful, seriously!?" Hina insisted.

"You are, you are. You, Hina-san, are the most beautiful in the world, alright?" Diarmuid replied with absolutely no sincerity.

Hina looked at Diarmuid angrily, then huffed in frustration. "Men are all unreliable creatures."

"Yes, yes, yes," Diarmuid continued to placate her, having no intention of arguing with this little girl.

Although Hina was now in her early twenties, Diarmuid still viewed her as a little girl.

Perhaps it was because Hina had been following him since her teens. In Diarmuid's eyes, Hina seemed to be perpetually a beautiful young woman.

After glaring at the newspaper in a huff for a while, Hina spoke as if nothing was wrong: "Sigh, to think, when Hancock first joined the Marines, I was already by your side, Admiral..."

Diarmuid slowly lit a cigar and bit down on it, completely ignoring her and refusing to engage with Hina's antics.

Seeing Diarmuid exhale a puff of smoke without intending to speak, Hina slightly raised her voice: "In the blink of an eye, Hancock is already a Marine Rear Admiral. Time truly flies..."

After saying this, Hina glanced at Diarmuid. Seeing that he remained unmoved, like a statue, she grew exasperated. She pretended to be surprised, grabbing the epaulet on her Justice coat, and asked in a puzzled tone, "Oh? Admiral, what's wrong with my epaulet?"

Diarmuid couldn't stand this drama queen anymore. He turned his head to look at her. "What's wrong? It looks fine, doesn't it? It's not damaged or frayed..."

"Look, how many stripes are there? Why am I only a Commodore?" Hina intentionally spoke in an exaggerated and incredulous tone.

Diarmuid rolled his eyes. "What in the world are you trying to say, little girl? What's wrong with Commodore? Commodore is good enough, alright?"

Hina heard this, put one hand on the deck for leverage, and immediately jumped up. She wrapped herself around Diarmuid in a lock, circling her forearm around the back of his neck from behind, pulling him backward. "You heartless wretch! I've been following you for seven, nearly eight years! I was the top student in my class at the Marine Academy! Bastille, who was the second-best student and graduated a year later than me, was promoted to Rear Admiral years ago! Seven years! My youth has been wasted on you, you good-for-nothing! Aren't you ashamed? Promote me to Rear Admiral now!"

With Hina hugging Diarmuid from behind and locking his neck, Diarmuid could naturally feel her good figure, but he was in no mood to appreciate it. Instead, he slapped Hina's arm and cursed, "Don't use misleading language like that! What 'youth'? Let go, let go, you lunatic! My fish! It took the bait!"

"If you don't give me an explanation today, I'll go down with you!!!" Hina roared. Whether intentional or not, her face pressed against the side of Diarmuid's cheek, right over his shoulder.

At that moment, they looked like a couple roughhousing.

Not far away, Vergo, who was sitting under the mast reading a book, glanced at the pair, and a faint smile even curved his lips, looking quite content.

Over the past few years, since Doflamingo hadn't planned on antagonizing the Marines, and the Marines hadn't bothered him much—in fact, both sides were tangled up in business—they mostly kept out of each other's way. Vergo naturally had no missions to execute.

After all these years, he sometimes wondered if he was a Marine or a pirate.

To call him a pirate, he had carried out Justice plenty of times, and his reputation in the Marines was quite good.

To call him a Marine, he was an infiltrator from the Donquixote Family. But frustratingly, he did nothing at all, which made the situation awkward.

Just then, a large fish suddenly leaped out of the water under Diarmuid's fishing rod, flipping and jumping in the air before falling back into the sea.

Instinctively, Diarmuid's eyes followed the fish's movement, tracking it from left to right.

This action required him to turn his head slightly.

Smack!

His lips met something soft, and a subtle floral fragrance filled his nostrils...

Both Hina and Diarmuid froze.

In the next instant, Hina's face turned beet red. She violently released Diarmuid, her expression a mix of shame and suppressed excitement. She drew the saber at her waist and yelled, "My first kiss! I'll kill you, you perverted old man!"

"Screw you, how is that my fault?" Diarmuid roared in return.
