Chapter 110: Angela or Diana
The tremors in the Nest had turned into a continuous roar. Concrete blocks from the ceiling rained down, and with every step, one could feel the metal floor beneath twisting and groaning.
Steam gushed from ruptured pipes, forming walls of white mist that fragmented the path ahead.
Leon walked in the lead, carrying Annette on his back, his Shotgun held across his chest as he vigilantly scanned the mist-filled corridor. Claire followed closely behind, holding Sherry's hand tightly, her revolver loaded and ready for any sudden situation.
The self-destruct countdown broadcast played over and over, coldly reminding them that they only had eight minutes left.
"The freight elevator is just ahead. If we take it down, we can reach the underground platform on the east side."
Claire pointed to a rusted iron door at the end of the corridor, her voice trembling slightly from rapid breathing.
Just as Leon reached out to pull the door handle, the steam pipe behind them suddenly let out a deafening explosion!
Scorching flames, carrying metal fragments, erupted outward, and the massive shockwave sent the four of them flying. Leon instinctively shielded Annette beneath him, his back slamming hard against the cold wall, a metallic taste of blood rising in his throat.
As the smoke and dust cleared, a tall, black figure slowly emerged from the flames.
The Tyrant.
The black trench coat on his body had been burned to rags in the explosion, revealing the steel-hard muscles beneath.
His right arm had completely mutated into a sharp, giant claw that glinted with a cold, metallic sheen. The skin on his chest was torn open, and a dark red heart beat violently within his thoracic cavity, each pulse causing the surrounding air to tremble slightly.
His gaze was locked firmly onto Leon, and with a low roar, he charged toward them with heavy, thunderous steps.
"Get into the elevator, quick!" Leon roared, pushing Annette toward Claire while raising his Shotgun and pulling the trigger on the Tyrant.
The muzzle flash of the Shotgun erupted in the dim corridor, and the lead pellets peppered the Tyrant's chest, leaving only shallow dents on his hardened skin. The Tyrant's stride didn't falter in the slightest as his giant claw swung down toward Leon with a whistling sound.
Leon rolled on the ground, narrowly avoiding the lethal blow. The giant claw smashed into the ground, gouging a massive crater into the hard concrete. He seized the opportunity to rush to the iron door, yanked it open, and shouted to Claire, "Get inside! I'll cover the rear!"
Claire, supporting Annette and holding Sherry, rushed into the elevator. Leon fired as he retreated, drawing the Tyrant away from the elevator. Once all three were safely inside the car, he spun around, slid into the elevator, and slammed the descent button.
The iron door slowly closed, but just as it was about to shut completely, the Tyrant slammed it open. His massive form leaped up and landed heavily onto the elevator platform!
The entire elevator lurched downward, the steel cables groaning piercingly, ready to snap at any moment.
"Claire, protect them!" Leon chambered a round in his Shotgun, blocking the car door, his eyes locked coldly on the encroaching Tyrant. "Today, I'm going to see who dies first."
The Tyrant roared and charged, his giant claw sweeping horizontally. Leon dodged to the side while tossing a flashbang at his feet. A blinding white light erupted instantly, and the Tyrant let out a pained roar, instinctively covering his eyes with his hand.
"Now!"
Leon seized the chance, rushing in front of the Tyrant, pressing the muzzle of the Shotgun hard against his exposed heart, and pulling the trigger repeatedly.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The point-blank shots finally tore through the Tyrant's defenses, and dark red blood sprayed out. The Tyrant let out an angry roar, flailing his giant claw and smashing the elevator railing to pieces.
Leon kept retreating, searching for an angle to shoot. But just then, the Shotgun gave a "click"—it was empty. The ammunition was spent.
He instinctively reached for his tactical vest, only to realize all his ammunition had been exhausted in the previous fights.
The Tyrant's vision gradually recovered. He looked at the unarmed Leon, let out a triumphant roar, and advanced with heavy steps.
Leon backed against the elevator railing, gripping his combat knife, ready for a final stand.
At this critical moment, a green weapon crate suddenly dropped from the ventilation duct above, crashing onto the elevator floor. The lid flew open, revealing a multi-barrel rocket launcher glinting with cold light.
A flash of a red garment appeared in the ventilation duct before vanishing instantly, leaving behind a sentence tinged with an imperceptible smile: "Now we're even."
"Where did this come from?" Leon was stunned for a moment, but immediately snapped out of it; there was no time to think. He grabbed the multi-barrel rocket launcher, hoisted it onto his shoulder, and aimed at the charging Tyrant.
"Goodbye, monster."
The rocket roared out, trailing fire, and struck the Tyrant's heart with precision.
"Boom—!"
The violent explosion shook the entire elevator until it was on the verge of collapse. The Tyrant's body was blown to pieces in the flames, fragments scattering everywhere. Dark red blood and viscera splattered across the platform, and the beating heart was reduced to ashes in the blast.
As the smoke cleared, the elevator reached the lowest level. The iron door slowly opened to reveal the corridor leading to the train platform.
Leon tossed aside the empty rocket launcher, panting heavily, and turned back to Claire. "It's over. Let's go."
Claire nodded, supporting Annette as they exited the elevator. Sherry clung tightly to her arm, her little face full of lingering fear. The four of them didn't dare to linger and hurried along the corridor toward the platform.
Meanwhile, on the third underground level of the train platform on the east side.
Chloe leaned against the doorframe of the train's conductor cabin, watching the electronic screen on the wall. The red numbers were ticking down—00:05:17.
Five more minutes, and the Nest would completely explode.
She had been waiting here for seven minutes, but Claire and the others still hadn't arrived. Angela sat obediently in the conductor's seat, swinging her legs, playing with a metal nut she had picked up from the floor.
"Wait three more minutes," Chloe said softly. "If they're not here in three minutes, we're leaving."
Just then, the station's broadcast system suddenly blared, the cold electronic voice echoing through the empty space: "Self-destruct sequence has entered the final countdown. Five minutes. All areas will be sealed shortly. Repeat, five minutes."
As soon as the broadcast ended, a loud crash erupted from the ceiling above!
Huge chunks of concrete fell as an incredibly massive figure burst through the ceiling, landing heavily on the train roof and denting the sturdy alloy roof with a massive crater.
Chloe's eyes sharpened, and she clenched her fists.
G4 William.
He had completely lost his human form, becoming a deformed monster. Huge, razor-sharp claws grew from both sides, covered in sharp spikes. Dozens of crimson eyes sprouted densely across his chest, staring fixedly at Chloe on the platform.
Chloe sneered and cracked her knuckles. "So you know how to block the extraction point, huh?"
Before she finished speaking, the T+G double virus in her body erupted instantly. Silver-white Blade Clawss sprang from her fingertips, her arm muscles bulged, and she likewise mutated two long, slender claws, facing off against G4 William from a distance. Her eyes turned a deep, blood-red, and a cold killing intent radiated from her entire body.
The next second, Chloe's body shot out like a cannonball, instantly leaping onto the roof to collide with G4 William.
"Clang!"
The claws collided, emitting a piercing metallic screech as sparks flew everywhere. Chloe's speed was pushed to the limit, weaving constantly around G4's massive frame. Every swing of her claws tore a deep wound into him, spraying dark green blood.
But G4's vitality was far more tenacious than she had imagined. The wounds healed at a speed visible to the naked eye; no matter how much damage Chloe inflicted, he recovered instantly. Although his attacks were slow, each strike carried earth-shattering power, sending debris flying everywhere.
Chloe gradually fell into a disadvantage. Her stamina was depleting rapidly, while G4's health bar seemed infinite. A momentary lapse in attention, and she was swept by G4's giant claw, sent flying, and landed on her knees, coughing up blood.
G4 let out a triumphant roar, jumped down from the roof, and approached Chloe with heavy steps, the dozens of eyes on his chest flashing with crimson light simultaneously.
Just then, Angela, who had been sitting in the conductor's cabin the whole time, suddenly stood up.
She walked to the train door, her small face devoid of expression, and aimed her right hand toward G4 William. A strange light flashed in her blue eyes, as if countless data streams were flowing within them.
The next second, a miraculous thing happened.
The spikes on G4's body began to dissipate at a speed visible to the naked eye, while the densely packed eyes on his chest became even more numerous and larger, and his originally hard skin became soft. He let out a pained roar, his movements noticeably slowing down significantly.
Chloe keenly captured this change. She leaped up from the ground, pulled the pin on a grenade, and seized the moment while G4 was slow to dive beneath him, jamming the grenade deep into his soft abdomen.
"Goodbye, William Birkin."
Chloe turned and ran, a deafening explosion erupting behind her.
G4's massive body was blown to pieces in the explosion, dark green blood and flesh splattering the entire platform. His remains twitched a few times on the ground before finally losing all signs of life.
As the smoke cleared, Chloe wiped the bloodstains from her face and turned to look at Angela standing by the train door, her eyes cold. "What did you just do?"
Angela didn't answer, only slowly moving her hand toward Chloe, the strange light still flickering in her blue eyes.
Chloe's pupils constricted. She instantly activated her virus-enhanced speed, flashed in front of Angela, and grabbed her by the throat.
"I asked you, what did you just do?" Chloe's voice carried a hint of imperceptible trembling.
Angela didn't struggle or cry; she just tilted her head, looking at Chloe curiously, and asked in a childish voice, "Are you afraid of falling asleep too?"
Chloe's heart sank.
She finally understood what Angela meant when she said "Lily fell asleep" earlier.
Lily had been "put to sleep" by her.
