Concerned Catgirl Noises

This is a story written by HiddenMaster and Aiko Akiyoshi

Commissioned by Latrios

Disclaimer:

This is a story about catgirls. In Space.

It utilizes characters from Catgirl Isekai Gone Wrong, but exists in a separate continuity. Think of it a bit like a sister series in a way, but differing setting and genre.

While this is not a grim dark setting, we will be dealing with horrid shit that happens as a result of capitalism gone wrong, megacorps fielding their own armies, racism between people and nations, human rights abuses, and some oddball sexual situations, as they come up. Basically, not shying away from the nasty stuff even if we do not necessarily focus on it.

There is also a notable arachnophobia warning in place. Spiders play a big part in the first arc of this story

Concerned Catgirl Noises

01: Two Broke Catgirls

Gwen Mor, proud daughter of Captain Eliza Mor of the acclaimed Starcutter class ship Sandy, did her best to to not scream.

She failed.

Bullets and industrial lasers smashed into the overturned delivery cart she’d hid behind. The shooters? A whole horde of angry Bunnygirl miners.

“ZENN! You said it would be one! One Bunnygirl! Not a whole crew!” Gwen eeped as one particularly powerful laser went straight through the metal of the cart right above her head. Her ears folded.

“The Bounty didn’t mention she had a crew!” Zenn cackled excitedly, her tail twitching like she was about to pounce on something. “But you know what this means?”

“What!?” Gwen shrieked, doing her absolute best to press even lower to the ground as bullets rang off their cover.

“We’re finally going to be rich!” Zenn claimed, bouncing from her cover to one a little closer as she tossed their only working gun to Gwen. “Distract them so I can get closer!”

“THEY DEFINITELY HEARD YOU YOU NINNY!” Gwen shouted, clutching the gun with trembling claws.

How in the nine Hells had they gotten to this point?

~~~~
Two weeks prior…
Once upon a time, two catgirls, one named Gwen from Neko Prime and another named Zenn from Neo Cattia, set off for the Inner Rim. The great frontier, to find their fortunes in the next exploration and colonization wave!
Yeah, it turned out the pay on an exploration ship was kinda shit.
Gwen found this out when she didn’t even have money to buy a snack cake while in station, but the Captain sure as Hell had time to entertain the three curvy merchants she’d somehow saved while the rest of them had been slaving away keeping her damn ship functional.
Enter Zenn.
Tall catgirl, tanned skin, blonde hair, military bearing, freshly discharged after her mandatory service in the Cattian military and rippling with athletic muscle, had become Gwen’s go to girl to complain to about the shit pay. Many a night had been spent talking about how the whole trip to the Inner Rim should have been, or how the captain constantly found ways to get rich and get laid while they did the actual work.
But it was just bitching and complaining. Then Zenn had an idea.
“You know, I do remember my old Captain really liked Bounty Hunters,” Zenn smirked. “Said they did their jobs well, and she was more than willing to hand out the Coin for those who could handle themselves in a scrap.”
Gwen, perhaps a little too drunk on cheap beer, had said, “Sounds nice…”
Thus they stole a fucking ship.
To be fair, it was a ship destined for scrap with the most basic of locks even keeping it on the station. Gwen was able to just overload the electronic lock and a bit of refueling later, they had a brand new, three generation old, falling apart old freighter named the Laiki whose manuals were all written in a horrific combination of shorthand, cursive, and Doggish that even the best translation apps struggled with, and no original records existed anymore for what the manuals actually were.
Which led them to the present moment. Piloting a ship that actively wanted to die to the nearest station when…
The fans went off, as did half the lights.
Gwen settled into her seat, staring straight ahead blankly at the controls. That was the life support.
Zenn whacked the console. “Damn piece of junk! You can work for the half a dozen kilometers needed to get to the station, or I’ll rip your wires out and gnaw on them!”
Gwen sighed, feeling dead inside. “That’s not how technology works.”
The fans turned back on. Most of the lights did too.
Gwen opened and closed her mouth, looking at Zenn.
“Standard military practice,” Zenn responded. “If it don’t work, hit it with a wrench until it does.”
With that, they limped into the station in Hangar 3.
Exiting the smelly ship, they saw a Bunnygirl technician in a jumpsuit there, ready to hand them a bill for the space already. “Sign here, and here,” she said, matter of factly, and Gwen was ready to do just that given she just wanted to sleep.
Unfortunately, the back thruster of the ship chose that moment to fall off. This was followed by the forward support strut snapping and the entire ship collapsing to the hangar floor, making them all jump.
“Gwen! Halp! My ass is on fire!” Zenn yelled, rushing out of the remains of the ship and damaging it further.
Thinking quickly, Gwen grabbed the datapad and signed before the bunnygirl could react and tell them to get the fuck out of there. “There, legally binding. We’ll, uh, be back,” Gwen said, rushing to help pat out the fire currently burning at Zenn’s ass and tail.
Gwen would have liked to say they took the time to rest, to have a good meal and drink at the station’s finest eatery, but no. Instead, they were stood outside a noodle dispenser with paper cups of water while miners and station workers, mostly Bunnygirls but with a few Catgirls in the mix, went to and fro.
“Zenn? We’re fucking broke after these noodles,” Gwen commented, slurping.
“…We can get a job here for now, right?” Zenn tried. “There’s gotta be somewhere on this station that would hire us while we get our ride fixed.”
Gwen sighed. “There are a few places. I can get something as a technician. These places always need one. But what about you?”
“I mean, I’m strong,” Zenn flexed her muscles. “Stronger than most bunygirls even, and they’re Deathworlders. I outlast them too.”
She sighed. “I can probably pick up work as security for one of the clubs on the station, ya know? That would be simple.”
“Hopefully,” Gwen commented, finishing off her noodles and still feeling hungry. “Welp, time’s a wasting.”
True to her word, Gwen was able to find a job as a technician fairly easily within a day. Mining Stations like this constantly had stuff breaking, so they needed a veritable army of tech savvy girls to fix it.
As for Zenn…
Gwen facepalmed, looking at the sillouette of a curvy Bunnygirl dancing. The place? “The Warren Club”.
“Really Zenn? You couldn’t find any other place?” she asked her friend.
“I mean, they needed a bouncer, so,” Zenn chuckled. “Apparently the boss wanted me up on the private dance floor at first, but all the Bunny girls with extra cash would ask for me by name to give them princess carries, and that pissed off a couple of the dancers.”
Gwen raised her claw, then lowered it. “Okay then. As long as you’re getting paid. I’m going to go sleep for a week. Or at least 12 hours until my next shift,” Gwen said, turning with Zenn to head back to their shared ‘apartment’.
Calling it a living space was insulting to living spaces. It was a tiny room with two bunks built into the wall, an open toilet, sink, and a single console with the most uncomfortable chair Gwen had ever experienced. It didn’t even have an opening for tails.
The station was built by Bunnygirls. They had tails. Where the fuck had they gotten this cheap piece of crap?
Still, it was a place to rest.
“Night, Gwen, and May the Stars of Neo Cattiya Guide your Dreams,” Zenn smirked, hugging her.
“Night, Zenn, and May the Lioness of Neko Prime Guard Yours,” Gwen said, hugging Zenn back.
They’d done this a while. Two sayings by Catgirls on worlds apart, and it’d become a bit of a ritual between the two. With that, Gwen climbed into her top bunk and prayed she wouldn’t have a bad dream and sit up and give herself a concussion.
~~~~

Nearly two weeks of the daily grind later, Gwen identified their problem.

“We’re making a profit of two Bunny coins a day, Zenn,” she said, feeling as if her eyes were bloodshot.

“What? How does that even work?” Zenn grumbled. “I know I am putting twenty five bunny coins in the budget a day from my job. And last I checked, you bring in a whole hundred! How do we only earn two?”

Gwen let out a long breath. “Our apartment is 25 coins. Our basic food with noodles everyday is another 25. The rest goes to the hangar at another 50. From there everything else, extra food, toiletries, add up to another 23 coins. The cheapest parts to repair the thrust cost 200 coins.”

Gwen let her head fall onto the console and just whined. “I really don’t want to call my Mom. I promised her I’d be okay. It’s barely been two months!”

“Hey! Don’t give up now!” Zenn exclaimed, slamming a bounty page down on the table. “Like I said, i was putting in 25 to the budget to cover our rent. The rest of it? Went to getting us weapons, armor, and information about any criminals that came in so we could track them down and get some extra cash.”

Gwen’s ears perked up. “That’s something. But unless that bounty doc has a criminal on this station we could go grab like, right now, it won’t do us a lot of good,” she said, grabbing the datapad and reading.

“Oh,” she said, eyes going wide at finding one ‘Lucia Smack’, Bunnygirl, expired mining permit, history of beating debt collectors, larsceny, and illegal parking. Wanted. Last known location: Station 66 in orbit around Ares IV.

Slowly, Gwen turned to look at Zenn and the impossibly wide, shit eating grin on her face.

“So?” Zenn asked.

“Screw my technician job. If I had to repair one more plumbing issue because their damn circuits couldn’t figure out if a line was full or not I might kill a person. Let’s fucking go!” Gwen shouted, jumping up with glee.

~~~~
Oh right, Gwen thought, remembering how they’d gotten to this point. That was how. Hilariously poor choices.
Lucia evidently didn’t want to be taken into custody. In fact, she had a whole crew in her illegal mining operation that didn’t want her taken.
“You’ll never take me alive, bounty hunters!” Lucia screamed, firing.
Which was why Gwen was hiding behind an overturned ore cart being shot at.
Finally, though, the shooting went quiet. There were many confused sounding clicks of triggers.
“Oh!” a ditzy voice said. “Guns need bullets, riiiiight!”
“SHUT IT KATIE!” a gruffer voice rebuked.
Zenn popped out from behind cover and grinned. “HA! Knew it!” she held her gun up and made to fire a shot at the nearest enemy, before seemingly remembering why she didn’t do that last time. It was still glowing red-hot from a fusion overload.
Instead, Zen threw it into the center of the group, the cheap energy weapon going off with a bang as it’s fusion core ruptured, disorienting the Bunnygirls long enough for Zenn to close the distance.
“I got you now!” she laughed, punching, kicking and clawing her way through the disoriented Bunnygirls to get to their chief.
“Oh, now you’ve made me mad!” Lucia, the tall, taller than Zenn Bunnygirl said, and had muscles to match.
What ensued was a minutes long fist fight that turned into a claw fight that turned into a grappling contest as Zenn and Lucia fought for dominance with each other, neither getting the upper hand.
Walking up to the two, Gwen idly noted some people paid good money for this sort of viewing.
Lucia finally managed to roll Zenn over. “Ha! I have you now!” she said, rearing back a fist.
Gwen took this opportunity to hit the Bunnygirl in the back of the head with the butt of her gun.
Lucia fell over with a clunk to the floor.
“I totally would have won,” Zenn pouted, sitting up from the floor with drooping ears.
“Sure thing, champ,” Gwen said, offering Zenn her claw and pulling her all the way up.
Looking around at the groaning bodies, Gwen only had one thing to say. “Think we’ll get extra for all of them?” she asked, hopefully.
Zenn chuckled. “It’s always worth a try!”
AN:
Latrios: And so our adventure begins! I'm glad with how this is coming along so far. for some inexplicable reason I kept visualising the bunnygirls in my mind is Lopunny's… and I don't know why because they absolutely do not look like that.
HiddenMaster: Indeed. I mean, some might, if they were a bit on the furrier side. Gene modding in this setting is pretty wild and common. Maybe some arctic bunnygirls out there?
But yeah, excited for this. I like Gwen and Zenn as they’re also present in Catgirl Isekai Gone Wrong, but this is its own continuity going a different route. Much more space adventure a la Outlaw Star.
Kitsu: Got the Outlaw Star song playing in my head now lol. Keep in mind, I wrote this with hidden after being up since like, 2pm the day before, and getting maybe 2h sleep lol. It is now almost 7:40am the next day, and I may indeed have shit to do shortly. Fuck me I guess, lol.
