Volume 1 Chapter 60: Zhang Shaoqing
Trapped In Paradise
Volume 1 Chapter 60: Zhang Shaoqing
Ning Chu paced anxiously around the dormitory. Every so often, he glanced at his phone, hoping for a reply from Wen Yang.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to go after them. It was just that with his height and short legs, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t run very fast. Following Wen Yang would only make him a burden.
“There are so many hotels around the school. Shaoqing might not even find them.”
“But what if he really catches them in bed...?”
Technically, Zhang Shaoqing was the third party here.
Ning Chu paused, deciding not to dwell on such a trivial detail, and continued pacing back and forth around the dormitory while muttering to himself.
“I’d finally almost gotten Wen Yang under control, and now Shaoqing has run into trouble.”
“If he really turns evil...”
Remembering the things the villain had done in the original plot, Ning Chu couldn’t help shuddering.
“Should I just run away while I still can? Even if I quit school, I could get a factory job and live a decent life.”
“Besides, this world is pretty dangerous...”
Although this hentai world still maintained the basic order of normal society, people here were far more likely to turn out to be perverts. On top of that, there were various settings in the novel that were originally intended to facilitate erotic encounters. If Ning Chu happened to run into the wrong person, he could end up being completely ruined.
As he hesitated, he suddenly stopped pacing, realizing something.
If this had happened half a month ago, and there had been a possibility that Zhang Shaoqing might turn evil, he would absolutely have rushed out without a second thought.
Instead, he had left Zhang Shaoqing in Wen Yang’s hands.
Before he could think about it any further, he suddenly heard footsteps coming from the hallway.
Ning Chu hurriedly opened the door and poked his head outside, only to see Wen Yang and Zhang Shaoqing returning one after the other.
Ning Chu eagerly rushed out of the room and darted over to Zhang Shaoqing. His little face was tense as he anxiously asked, “What happened? How did it go?”
“......”
Wen Yang turned around and explained.
“They didn’t run into each other. He contacted Ling Ling, but she didn’t reply.”
Thank goodness, thank goodness~
Ning Chu breathed a sigh of relief. He studied Zhang Shaoqing’s expressionless face, which seemed completely devoid of emotion, and followed the two of them back into the dormitory.
Zhang Shaoqing still didn’t say anything. He silently sat down in front of his computer.
Ning Chu took small steps over to Wen Yang’s side. Rising onto his toes, he quietly asked beside Wen Yang, “He seems to be in really bad shape. What should we do?”
His voice was too soft. Wen Yang paused, unable to hear him clearly, then lowered his head and brought his ear close to Ning Chu’s lips.
“He seems to be in really bad shape...”
“Yeah. Understandable. How could you feel good after your first love was stolen from you?”
“The problem is that he won’t say anything now. He isn’t crying or making a fuss. He’s just sitting there blankly. It’s kind of scary.”
A faint, delicate feminine fragrance drifted into Wen Yang’s nose with Ning Chu’s breath. Almost instinctively, Wen Yang glanced at the lips and white teeth only inches away before looking back toward Zhang Shaoqing.
After a moment of hesitation, he said, “I’ll order two cases of beer for him. Maybe drinking a little and letting it out will help.”
“Yeah, yeah, order it quickly!”
Ning Chu’s little head bobbed repeatedly.
Hopefully, the concern of his roommates combined with the stimulation of alcohol would let Zhang Shaoqing properly vent all the frustration bottled up inside him.
Otherwise, there was no way to avoid his descent into darkness!
Right now, Ning Chu desperately missed the foul-mouthed, shameless, blond rich kid Zhang Shaoqing used to be.
Wen Yang helplessly began placing the order, but every so often, his eyes drifted toward Ning Chu.
“I’ve never seen anyone care this much about a roommate.”
“We’re all friends, after all~”
“You’ve only known each other for a month.”
If they had been close friends for several years, this would have been perfectly normal. But their roommates had only known each other for a little over a month since the beginning of the semester.
Ning Chu naturally explained, “That’s just the kind of person I am. I guess I like meddling in other people’s business.”
“Yeah. Without you, I’d probably have had a girlfriend by now...”
“Hm? That sounded a little like you’re blaming me.”
Although Wen Yang’s tone was calm and only carried a hint of confusion, he instinctively felt nervous. Guiltily, he looked away.
“No. How could I?”
He immediately changed the subject. “Aren’t you going to comfort Shaoqing? The beer still won’t arrive for another half hour.”
Technically, alcohol wasn’t allowed in the dormitory. At the very least, none of the convenience stores on campus sold it.
But delivery drivers always seemed to have their own ways of getting alcohol upstairs.
Ning Chu stared at Zhang Shaoqing’s back, racking his brain for a way to solve the problem.
Besides, drowning your sorrows in alcohol wouldn’t actually solve anything. Once Zhang Shaoqing sobered up, wouldn’t he still have to face the reality that his childhood sweetheart had given herself to someone else?
Zhang Shaoqing suddenly moved. He stood up, took a pack of cigarettes from his drawer, and walked toward the balcony. Not long afterward, the distinct click of a lighter came from outside.
He’s smoking again...
Actually, Zhang Shaoqing didn’t usually have much of a smoking habit. He smoked only two or three cigarettes a day, and only smoked more when he was irritated or upset.
Ning Chu agonized over it for a long time but still couldn’t come up with a solution. With a sigh, he steeled himself and followed Zhang Shaoqing out onto the balcony.
The smoke made him cough twice. Before long, two cigarette butts had already accumulated at Zhang Shaoqing’s feet.
“Smoke a little less...”
“Just leave me alone for a bit.”
The obvious irritation in his voice left Ning Chu with no choice but to silently stand in the corner of the balcony.
He raised his eyebrows slightly as he observed Zhang Shaoqing’s expression.
For some reason, he suddenly felt as if he were looking at a usually hyperactive, destructive, annoying little dog that had injured its leg today and was unusually quiet, silently licking its wounds.
Hearing some movement inside, Ning Chu turned his head. Through the window, he saw Wen Yang standing by the glass with his arms crossed, watching them from inside.
Wen Yang noticed his gaze as well. The two exchanged glances, both wearing helpless expressions.
What were they supposed to do?
Maybe comfort him like a sympathetic older sister? But Zhang Shaoqing seemed to dislike that kind of behavior.
Ning Chu also knew that when some people were depressed or agitated, they preferred being left alone rather than being comforted. He himself was that kind of person.
“How about playing a game?” he tentatively asked Zhang Shaoqing. “You can use my account and play a few ranked rounds with some low-ranker to cheer yourself up.”
“......”
Now that he had gotten the first sentence out, Ning Chu worked up the courage to continue.
“Hey, Shaoqing, you’re pretty handsome, and your family’s well-off. You’ll definitely meet another girl you like more and who’s a better match for you, right?”
“You’ve got such good conditions. Ling Ling was the one who failed to appreciate you. She’s the one who lost out.”
“Let’s just play games like normal. What woman could possibly be more fun than a game...?”
Ning Chu looked at Zhang Shaoqing, hoping the guy would suddenly flash his usual shameless grin and arrogantly say something like:
You didn’t seriously think I’d get upset over a woman, did you?
But he didn’t.
“The beer’s here, Shaoqing. Come inside and have a drink.” The balcony door opened, and Wen Yang called out to him. “I bought some snacks to go with it, too.”
Only then did Zhang Shaoqing slowly walk back into the dormitory.
So, was talking things out really not an effective way to comfort a man?
Ning Chu pursed his lips in dissatisfaction. He had said so much, yet Zhang Shaoqing hadn’t reacted at all. But the moment Wen Yang called him in for a drink, he followed him inside.
The problem was, he couldn’t use that method himself!
