Volume 1 Chapter 62: Falling Ill
Trapped In Paradise
Volume 1 Chapter 62: Falling Ill
Zhang Shaoqing woke up with a splitting headache.
He opened his eyes. The fan directly above him was buzzing and trembling, as though it might fall down at any moment.
There was a rustling sound beside him. He turned his head and saw the leg of a chair. Following it upward, he saw Ning Chu’s bare white feet standing on the chair.
“Still not asleep?”
Ning Chu, who had been sitting on the chair playing on his computer, shuddered and hurriedly turned around to look at him. His expression was both worried and wary. He quickly lowered his feet and slipped on his slippers.
“What time is it?”
“Three in the morning.”
Zhang Shaoqing held his head as he sat up, then noticed the suitcase beside Ning Chu. “Are you getting ready to go home?”
No. He was getting ready to run if things started looking bad.
But judging from the situation now, Zhang Shaoqing seemed pretty normal?
“I just put away some useless things while I had the time.”
“Want some water?”
Ning Chu turned around and handed him a cup of cooled boiled water.
“Mm.”
The dormitory fell silent once again in the middle of the night. Zhang Shaoqing quietly finished the water, lowered his head, and sat on the bamboo mat on the floor, fiddling with his phone.
Ning Chu no longer had any interest in watching his TV show either. Every so often, he would lower his head and glance at him.
His mood still seemed pretty ordinary?
Normally, Zhang Shaoqing would have already been grinning and teasing him by now.
It was the middle of the night. Wen Yang had gone to sleep long ago. His schedule was relatively normal, and he usually couldn’t stay up past midnight. Ning Chu, on the other hand, frequently stayed up all night, especially on days off.
“I’ve been wondering where exactly I fall short.” Zhang Shaoqing suddenly spoke, almost as if he were talking to himself.
Ning Chu instinctively shook his head. “You don’t fall short anywhere!”
His gaze fell on Zhang Shaoqing as he desperately searched for something positive about the blond.
“You’re handsome, you’re rich and generous, you’re outgoing...”
In a world where handsome men and beautiful women were everywhere, appearance was actually the least remarkable advantage. As for his personality... He was indeed outgoing. Rather than saying he had friends everywhere, it would be more accurate to say that even dogs disliked him.
So his only real advantage was probably his generosity.
Ning Chu paused, organizing his thoughts before saying, “Maybe you’re just not her type. I took a look at Wen Yang and Ling Ling’s current boyfriends. They’re both the tall, well-built type who look calm and steady. You look somewhat refined, while your personality is lively...”
Zhang Shaoqing nodded thoughtfully. “I knew you’d take the route of being a wise big sister.”
“...”
“I’m going to the bathroom.”
He flipped himself up and walked straight toward the balcony.
Ning Chu finally relaxed the tension he had been holding onto. At least this guy could still tease him. Compared to the state he had been in last night, looking as though he were on the verge of death and might turn completely dark at any moment, his current condition should be considered fairly good.
“What a load of nonsense...” he sighed as he stuffed the suitcase back into the wardrobe. “Luckily, I managed to dodge another bullet.”
No need to worry about getting thoroughly screwed anytime soon~
His previously oppressive mood became much lighter, and an intense wave of sleepiness followed.
The double exhaustion of body and mind over the past few days was starting to take its toll. He yawned, shut down the computer, and got up to go to bed.
As for Zhang Shaoqing’s mental health, at least for now, it didn’t seem to be much of a problem. He could continue observing him after waking up.
......
When Ning Chu woke up, he could hear the soft, rustling sound of rain outside.
His body felt unusually heavy, and he could barely open his eyes. His entire body was sore and weak as he rolled over in bed and exhaled. Then he realized that the air coming from his nose was burning hot.
He forced his eyes open and asked Wen Yang below him weakly, “What time is it?”
“Noon. Did you stay up late again last night?”
“Yeah. Until three.” He glanced around the dormitory. “Where’s Shaoqing?”
“He went out.”
Went out?!
How could they let Zhang Shaoqing go out in this condition?!
For all they knew, this guy had already gone completely dark. He was just hiding it extremely well, and had gone out to wreak havoc on some unsuspecting girl!
Ning Chu jolted and suddenly sat up, about to hurriedly climb down from the bed, only to collapse helplessly back onto the mattress.
Oh no!
These past few days, he had been going outside with Wen Yang to work part-time and get some sun, so his body was already exhausted. On top of that, he had stayed up late the previous night and drunk some alcohol, which had weakened his immune system...
Had he gotten sick?!
“Wen Yang, Wen Yang!” He poked his head over the edge of the bed, his voice anxious. “Do you know where Shaoqing went?”
“Probably went home? When I got up this morning, he was already gone. I checked his desk, and his car keys were gone too.”
Only then did Wen Yang look up at him. Seeing Ning Chu’s cute face flushed red from the fever, he smiled and asked, “Look at how red your face is. Are you in heat or something?”
“I think maybe a little...”
“???”
Wen Yang froze for a moment, almost thinking Ning Chu was deliberately trying to seduce him.
But then he stood up, walked over to Ning Chu’s bed, and gently pressed the back of his hand against Ning Chu’s forehead.
“You’re burning up.” He frowned. “I’ll go find a thermometer. Let’s check your temperature first, then we’ll go to the campus clinic.”
“Mm... but Shaoqing...”
“You’re sick, so can you stop worrying about him for once and just focus on getting better?”
Wen Yang’s tone toward him was noticeably firm and forceful.
“I really don’t understand you. You’re sick yourself, yet you’re still worrying about what Shaoqing is doing. Even if you care about your roommate, shouldn’t you at least take care of your own health first?”
Wen Yang rummaged through the room for a while. When he finally straightened up, his frown had deepened.
“I remember my family brought me a thermometer when the semester started. I have no idea where I put it.”
“Wait here. I’ll go downstairs and buy one.”
“Hey!”
Ning Chu had just started to stop him, but Wen Yang had already opened the door and left.
All he could do was stare longingly at the door and mutter unwillingly, “Another one went out... What if he runs into some kind of plot event too?”
“At least take an umbrella...”
He really wasn’t comfortable letting Wen Yang go out alone, but he was sick enough that even breathing felt uncomfortable.
Because of the holiday and the rain, there were hardly any students to be seen around the dormitory area. Braving the steady drizzle, Wen Yang ran all the way from the dormitory to the supermarket.
He hurried to the cashier and asked anxiously, “Do you have thermometers? Where are they?”
“Over there.”
Wen Yang quickly headed to the indicated shelf. His eyes swept across the rows of products, but then he suddenly caught a whiff of perfume. Instinctively, he turned his head and saw a flirtatious little fox approaching him with a dazzling smile.
Lin Li’s eyes lit up. The moment she saw Wen Yang, a few thoughts immediately sprang to mind. Just as she was about to speak, Wen Yang beat her to it.
“Have you seen a thermometer?”
“A thermometer?”
She followed closely behind Wen Yang. Her beautiful fox-like eyes scanned the shelves for a thermometer while she tried to charm and tempt him with her words.
“Wen Yang~ Are you free later? It’s the holiday, and I’m so bored all alone in the dorm~”
As she spoke, she approached him with a seductive smile and hooked her arm around his, pressing herself against him as she swayed.
Wen Yang glanced down at her expressionlessly, then suddenly smiled.
Got him!
Sure enough, no man could resist temptation!
Lin Li’s eyes lit up, and she squeezed her legs together in anticipation. But Wen Yang simply crouched down and picked up a thermometer from the very bottom shelf.
“It was down here. No wonder I couldn’t find it.”
“...”
“Bored? Didn’t I hear that you were planning to drive home right after the dinner that day?”
As he stood up, Wen Yang’s expression returned to normal. In a cold, sarcastic tone, he said, “What? You decided not to go home because I didn’t get into your car that day?”
This wicked woman! If Ning Chu hadn’t saved him back then, he might have been left with only one kidney by now!
“Huh?”
