V3: Chapter 60: A Comforting Word from a Proud Woman
"Let me tell you why she's sad. Liang Di is sad because she revealed her monstrous form to you."
Liang Lin paused after saying this.
"What's there to be sad about? I've always known she's a monster. What's there to be sad about? I don't understand."
Liang Lin genuinely couldn't understand.
Octaville sighed.
"Liang Di hates being a monster the most, so she thinks you must hate being with a monster too. She's never told me any of this; I figured it out myself. She's never dared to reveal her true self to you, and that must be because of this."
"Ah..."
After hearing this long explanation, Liang Lin seemed to understand, yet also seemed unable to. After all, she wasn't a monster; she was a completely human being. She wasn't Liang Di, and she hadn't experienced what Liang Di had gone through. She couldn't fully understand Liang Di.
However, Liang Lin knew a saying: "When you wear the shoes she wore and walk the path she walked, you'll find even the path itself becomes incredibly difficult."
"Okay, I understand."
Liang Lin quickly chased after her.
"Liang Di is almost back at the Langwendi mansion, hiding under the covers, secretly crying, thinking about how not to make you hate her, how not to make you despise her. You can't go back to the Langwendi mansion alone now, let Gladys take you."
Upon hearing this, Gladys quickly came to Liang Lin's side.
It was perfect timing; Gladys couldn't stay in this Magic Tower for even a day longer. It needed to get home and rest properly, eat some blood clots to recover from the shock.
However, she wasn't entirely willing to return to the Langwendi mansion because Laura was still unconscious. Although this was the umpteenth time Laura had fallen unconscious, Gladys was still somewhat worried.
Liang Lin was taken to the Langwendi residence by Gladys.
She had just returned when she saw Carol running towards her like a little radish spirit with legs.
Although Liang Lin was worried about Liang Di's crying, seeing Carol's adorable and innocent appearance, she couldn't help but laugh out loud, raising her hand to ruffle the little girl's hair.
"Why are you running so fast? Don't fall down. Okay, I can't go back now, you can go to the side for a bit."
Liang Lin still knew what was important; she wasn't that carefree.
Carol clung tightly to Liang Lin's clothes, her voice filled with anxiety and worry as she asked,
"Mama, I just saw Mommy run back crying! What happened between you two? Did you fight? Did you break up? Are you going to separate? You two can't separate! If you separate, I'll be a motherless child... um, okay, um, no, wait..."
"This child's words are so incoherent. It's not like me at all. I'm not that stupid." Liang Lin looked at her precious daughter with concern.
"Alright, I know your Mommy cried. We didn't fight, it's just a misunderstanding. I'll go upstairs and comfort her. You, now, get off me right now and go play with your sister, hurry up."
Liang Lin shoved her daughter away, finally managing to get the little rascal off, and started walking upstairs, calling Liang Di's name as she went.
Liang Di was sobbing uncontrollably in her room, the door closed, completely oblivious to Liang Lin's calls.
Liang Lin finally came upstairs and reached Liang Di's door. Without hesitation, she pressed the doorknob and entered.
"Liang Di, why did you run away crying? Is something hurting? If it hurts, let me rub it for you. Will that make you feel better?"
Liang Lin spoke as she quietly sat down on the edge of Liang Di's bed.
Liang Di was curled up under the covers. Seeing Liang Lin sit down, she curled up even deeper, even covering her head completely, as if trying to suffocate herself. She didn't utter a sound, as if she hadn't heard Liang Lin's calls, tears streaming down her face.
"Sister Liang Lin will definitely hate me, right? She'll definitely be disgusted by me! I don't want Sister Liang Lin to hate me! I don't want Sister Liang Lin to be disgusted by me! I don't want this to happen! I'm so scared, I'm so scared! Help! Help! Help!"
Liang Di cried out for help in her heart, but on the surface, she didn't say a word, not even showing her head.
"Liang Di, don't be sad. I know what's wrong."
Liang Lin sighed, abandoning her usual pride, and gently hugged Liang Di from outside the covers.
"Liang Di, I know, you're afraid I'll hate you, right?"
Liang Di's body jolted when she heard this, because her thoughts had been exposed.
How could Sister Liang Lin know all this? I hadn't even said what I was thinking.
Liang Di muttered to herself, but still remained silent, pretending to be aloof.
Liang Lin hated this cold war, but facing Liang Di, her tone softened further.
"Liang Di, don't worry, I won't hate you. Even if you're a tentacle, I'll still like you. How should I put it? Like a giant plush toy. I love plush toys, you know, I love plush bears."
Liang Lin stammered, trying to comfort her. She wasn't good at comforting people; in fact, she'd probably never comforted anyone in her life.
Liang Di's crying gradually subsided, turning into silent sobs.
"Okay, don't cry anymore. I really won't hate you. Even if you become a tentacle, you'll still be the cutest one. You're different from those tentacles on the beach. Those tentacles look disgusting and smell pungent. The tentacles you've become have a pleasant fragrance, and they're fluffy. They're not annoying at all."
Liang Lin's comforting words were quite comical; even Liang Di herself couldn't help but smile when she saw her earlier.
Liang Lin felt the little figure tremble under the covers.
"Liang Di, are you smiling?"
Sensing that Liang Di's mood had improved, Liang Lin finally breathed a sigh of relief and wasn't as tense as before.
"Don't be unhappy. You know I'm not good at comforting people. Since I've already broken the silence for you, you'd better just accept it, okay?"
Her comforting tone was harsh as usual.
